The game is F2P in russia and there are several ways to get around the ip block + theres an english patch for it, so instea of paying 150 bucks for alpha access, play the russian version with the english patch.
I doubt there will be a sub for the game, but if so well ill keep playing for free on russian servers, latency is just about 90ms.
The restirction on f2p couldnt be less:
As most of the free-to-play titles, ArcheAge will have a premium account which will cost 300 rubles (around 10$). Premium account will feature a six time faster labor points recovery, an increased 20% XP and 50% drop rate (the numbers may change in the future) and a number of ArcheAge premium currency called “arc”. With arcs you will be able to buy different unique items from the premium shop. An important thing is that you will be able to get arcs in-game through different ways such as raiding, in case you don’t really want to spend any money and still have access to premium items.
So, going out to the non ignorant smart people, go get it Its FREE, and there are international, english speaking people playing aswell.
The 150$ alpha pack is just a large pre-order really. If you already know you will be playing the game and paying a sub for it then it makes sense. The price was high on purpose because they don't want to open 50 alpha servers. The alpha server will become the test server after launch so you actually don't lose anything either. Yeah they are obviously trying to cash in early but at least AA is a decent game. Look at ESO charging 80$ up front and a mandatory sub for pure garbage.

Yeah I don't see it...
you clearly didnt get his/her point. Accepting those practices only lead the companies to do more and more shady practices in the future, charging more and more for less and less. Etc, etc. Its been happening for a while now because people keep supporting it. Now games priced at the standard $60 dollars are unfinished or with content that has been left out and if you want the full package you have to buy $80+ editions. For mmos its the same thing with overpriced alpha nonsense and pre purchase.

But yeah go ahead and justify every milking scam so we can pay 150 for a single player demo next time..
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
If there wasn't a strong demand to get into alpha, they wouldn't charge 150.00, but there is, so they can charge it and make money to pay employees and investors.
Besides, its $75 value in game currency, $45 in subscription time, so now you are down to 30.00 for the game and you get into alpha early.
Do you think people should be making games for you to play out of the goodness of their hearts and not be able to make a profit off of it?

I decided to buy it largely on the basis that I would spend this money anyway.
First, I know I will be playing. I like the game. I am already sold. For those who are unsure and simply want to try it out, $150 is too much, I get that. I wouldn't pay that amount for a game I wasn't sure about playing.
Because I am already sold on the game I know I will be picking up patron status for several months. I usually buy game time in the 6 or 12 month packs for the discount. pre purchasing 3 months of subscription is pretty conservative for me. And even on a F2P game I will pick up the VIP status once I know I will play it for a while. I have been subbed to Rift for a long time now. For me, the benefits of Patron status is worth the price.
I also know that I will buy at least one larger cash shop package for reasons similar to the above. I will buy it in a larger chunk for the discount and getting this initial buy in usually gets me everything I want for the first few month in terms of cash shop items. Additional bag and bank space, a cool looking mount perhaps a character costume. I simply don't mind spending $50-75 on an initial item shop cash package once I know I will play a game as it is not that much different from buying a box.
The bulk of the $150 founders pack is taken up in these two things, about $40 for 3 months sub and $75 for item shop cash. The remaining $30-35 or so then gets me continuous access to the game for the next several months. Which is cheaper than a sub.
Again this is all predicated on the idea that I am already sold on the game and plan to spend this money anyway. This is a lot, probably too much for anyone simply wanting to give it a try. I completely understand that. But for me, prepaying for the services I know i will get a few months from now and getting access to the game from now until then is simply worth it for me.

Apart from the trolling going on, to understand this a certain level of intelligence is needed plus the willingness to admit that your own behaviour can have undesirable side-effects in the long run that will affect yourself and others. The believe that these problems might solve themselves, which probably is true, makes people opt to ignore the bigger picture and just focus on what is pleasant. This should not come as a surprise since gaming is in some ways a form of escapism. The goal is to have fun, not to worry about things that may or may not be true, but would require taking responsibility.

For me $150 is 2 tanks of gas.. or a weeks worth. So its not a big deal.
Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.
Here's yet another person's view on the Archeum Founder Pack $150 breakdown:
11,250 credits = $75
3 months of Patron status, at general subscription rate of $15 per month = $45
Full Alpha access until launch, which people estimate at 3 to 6 months, is essentially Patron status as well (no Patron land restrictions in Alpha), $15 per month = $45 ~ $90
This, of course, will differ greatly in value to everyone, due to the fact that Alpha progression does not carry over.
75+45+(45~90)= $165 ~ $210
To me, that right there already well surpasses the price point.
This game feels the most similar to Age of Wushu to me, and they price their permanent cosmetics around $40+ USD per set. So, if we were to value the "Exclusive Desert Assassin Plate Costume" by those standards, that's another $40 there. And a permanent customizable cosmetic cape? That would value higher.
Then there are the unlisted parts of the Alpha access to value. The most obvious being the ability to learn the curve long before launch and streamline my enjoyment come launch day.
In the group of gamers I roll with, I'm usually the only one who pays for anything, the rest being free-to-play all the way. I'm paying the way for others like my friends to enjoy the game while still getting physical benefits as well.
...and the ability to hold that fact over those friends' heads while I have access and they don't: Priceless

personally i would value the three months sub at $15 total (because there is no guarantee its something i would want come launch) and the credit package at maybe $5 because if I am going to sub i shouldnt need credits and we have no clue what the shop is like. Alpha access until launch is worth about $15, and the exclusivity might be worth another $15. other fluff is worth 0.
So $50 to me.
But you are right, everyones breakdown will be different.

The funniest post got to be the guy that spent $150.00 and considers himself a Whale
That being said I don't pre order, alpha , beta non of that stuff
I wait 6 months to a year after release to see if I want to play a game.
