Everyone knows its PVP focused???? UMMM Iam sorry where did I miss that in the description of this game. In response to your original question, care bears certainly wont kill this game but PVPers might. Please go play FPS (that is first person shooters) which are perfect for those wanting to "duel" constantly with other players and leave our MMOs alone.
I am and Alpha player . Love the game so far. I guess I'm a carebear as well. Archeage's pvp doesn't seem so bad to me. I am currently lvl 33 in a pvp zone. About 2 hrs ago I witnessed a lvl 49 and a lvl 50 char ganking a lvl 35. Since the lvl 35 guy didn't see them first he was killed also he was outnumbered. Me and one other lvl 30+ helped out the guy that was getting ganked. In what i would like to say all together 4-5 shots i managed to kill the lvl 49. 1 big burst to hit him for half his HP then 3 or 4 more shots to kill him. The other guy was mauled down by the other 2. Only reason why i was able to kill the lvl 49 was because he wasn't paying me no attention. Plus his gear was prolly under geared. Point is if people around you help out you don't really have to worry about gankers. Also a lvl 50 char isnt unstoppable unless he's spent a considerable amount of time getting lvl 50 gear. Which from what my guild members have told me takes a long time to get. The best gear is crafted gear. And getting these materials will take you a long time to get. Also carebears don't need to level in pvp areas. You can do other things to get to lvl 50. It will take you a bit longer to get there but the game doesn't start at lvl 50. It starts at lvl 1. And to the guy i read earlier that thinks he can just run trade packs to avoid pvp. The best loot is the most dangerous route. So good luck with ur safe routes. I'm a carebear i hope this game doesn't get ruined by other carebear and those who expect to get the best of the best within a month. It takes time to get what you want and what you need and it needs to stay that way. You don't need to always be on. You can still play casually and get what you need in the same time as someone who plays hardcore. whether it's farming for your mats-you don't need to be online for your plants and live stock to grow. Being a pirate- find a big merchant ship with a couple of buddies kill off the crew collect the large amount of trade packs on the ship trade all of them in get buku amount of money. Treasure hunter- go deep sea diving grab a chest at the bottom of the ocean to get very expensive loot. This game does NOT need to be dumbed down. We westerners always want it easy. well the game is already dumbed down for us already. It just takes time to do things.
Open world PvP fans should by all rights be begging Trion to open a PVE ruleset server so us carebears will stay the heck off their PvP server.
Gankers, predictably, will howl with rage if this ever happens, but who the heck cares about their feelings?
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
The question is if P2W shit can be transformed into a working MMO for the western audience.
"Torquemada... do not implore him for compassion. Torquemada... do not beg him for forgiveness. Torquemada... do not ask him for mercy. Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"
If you think pvp in a fantasy game is for anyone but carebears then there is no hope for you.
Want pvp go play bf4 or CoD or dayz, pvp in fantasy games is just silly, its like whining your fireballs are not pwnage enough lol, oh noes he has the dreaded cape of +2 to gankmode we must run to seek cover in the fairy forest of Ur.
Seriously check your heads guys, fanatsy pvp is the definition of carebear pvp.
The question is if P2W shit can be transformed into a working MMO for the western audience.
If enough people are happy to pay $15 a month to play a prettier version of FarmVille, Trion might not have to monetize much else. Not sure how they'll get the PvP crowd to pay anything without selling power, though. Do PvP areas have fortresses or something? Yet another reason to want the carebears around, if not necessarily on the same servers.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
As everyone knows, archeage is a sandbox pvp focused game. It's endgame is all about the risk X reward system provided by the disputes of trade routes, packs, castles, mining spots and so on, what is intended to create a social experience far more lively and complex than what we are used in the mainstream western mmos (except EVE).
Because this, Archeage have world pvp planned from its very root and entangled in all its features, like the trade missions, the justice system and the piracy. So, world pvp cant be simply plucked off the game and it still continue to be a great mmo. Archeage with word pvp plucked off would become crap.
However, this mmo seens to arouse interest from carebears! I dont know the reason for this, if is the lack of information about the game or some other thing i cant understand (e.g: a hope that developers dumb down the mmo and reduce or remove its risks), and this is particularly source of concern to the people that awaited AA for almost 4 years for what it is intended to be when announced: a fantasy sandbox AAA mmo inspired in UO.
In my opinion, AA will only do well here in the west if it keep itself as a "different" mmo, with risks X reward, social tools and meaningful pvp, since is it what many players are waiting for and cant find in the countless AAA linear themepark mmos that is around. The carebear crowd already have plenty of AAA mmos to play and is somewhat "unfair" they wanting a complete domination in the genre, with no even a crumb to the pvp crowd.
AA will do very well in Russia because the playerbase wants a Lineage 3 and AA seens to fill well that role.
The way I read it, the final island or continent or whatever they are called in the game is the main PvP area. The other two islands are mainly PvE. If that has changed I have not heard about it, but if that stays the same then there will be plenty of game for everyone.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
However, this mmo seens to arouse interest from carebears! I dont know the reason for this
The reason is pretty obvious and simple.
There's no modern gen MMO with a huge open world to explore, open class system, and player housing. I'm willing to put up with the douchebags that scream "carebear" just for a chance to get lost in the game world.

Depends on the definition of that word 'mainly' in the phrase 'mainly PvE'.
I went and read some comments about the US alpha. It seems even supposedly safe trade run areas have griefers trying to block or herd people off the safe shipping trade routes. How much worse will it be when the game goes live and that $150 pricetag isn't keeping anyone out?
And I can't find too much info on it that isn't confusing, but it seems all three continents cycle between peace time (safe) and wartime (open season). With, according to the plentiful descriptions, the usual gangs of roaming, high level gankers who never fight one on one.
ArcheAge offers a lot of features I want, and I really enjoyed my short time roaming around in the Russian version, even though I didn't spend money to experience the housing. But I will definitely wait for launch and play free at first to see if housing is available in safe areas and to find out just how safe those areas really are. And of course to make sure Trion doesn't try to get more than $15 a month out of the average land owner. I'm in no mood to be herded into a cash shop just for upkeep or to have to pay more than that just to enjoy crafting and farming and such.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
No - this game will not be ruined by carebears as most are to affraid to even touch an open world pvp mmo. The one's that do play will most likely enjoy the risk versus reward style pve. I remember in WoW that most carebears might also like high end pvp ! as i was part of such guild for a year or 2 ! we rolled 15 hour a day premades in warsong gulch for top pvp ranks. And had time left to be dragon slayers :P Vanila wow also had blackrock depths where all raid guilds and pvp guilds gathered at prime time. It was the most epic time in wow
I think this mmo will attract all those people back who so dearly missed the days of grouping up and murder death kill anything in sight. Many people miss this kind of gameplay, and it seems Archeage is just offering all that stuff for all kinds of players.
As for the real pve players ? they prolly play Wildstar. Wildstar is realy going the route of most insane hardcore raiding scene ever. As such those players are going to move to Wildstar or stay in WoW if it doesnt meet their expectations.
I am happy people finaly getting some solid choices for mmo's to fill their needs. This year is going to be one of the best mmo years in recent history.
In all mmorpgs 90% of my time is PvE and one of the greates mmorpg experience was L2 back in C4 and C5.
I prefer PvE and normally try to avoid pvp but i still thing AA is the best mmorpg i ever played.
For those who dont want to play AA because have open world PvP, just wait for release and try it, its f2p anyway, everyone should at least reach the sea with a speedboat befor thing in quit.... my god, its freaking amazing
There are a LOT of MMO PVE Sandbox players out here who want a true sandbox without being forced to PvP.
SWG allowed you to play without ever flagging up. What is wrong with that model?
I'm still looking at The Repopulation. I think it might be more PvE friendly than Archeage.
Ditto. Open world pvp games always attract the absolute worst type of player. The complete internet sociopath psychotic. They never foster anything other than an environment where ganking and griefing is accepted. Not the type of game i'm interested in. I enjoy pvp, but i don't enjoy getting ganked by someone 20 levels higher with better gear where i have absolutely no way at all to fight back as the type of player that plays these games is the type that will never attack when the fight is 'fair', only when they have the advantage.
The vast majority of western players are like this and won't play an open world pvp game for long. Archeage needs to realize that or expect incredibly small subscriber base. I wouldn't mind playing AA, but even the justice system isn't any sort of real deterrent or punishement for the type of player that likes to grief and gank and won't work in the long run.
It's a shame as archeage does look interesting, just not willing to subject myself to non consentual pvp where there are no true penalties to deter anit social psychotic behaviour.
I regret spending $150 on the Archeum pack. The farming, crafting, the mounts that start out as babies, the gliders, the graphics are absolutely fantastic. A real joy. The bubble burst when I realized what this game is...a PVP gankfest where the lunatics have congregated.
Think of when the game launches and that $150 paywall is removed leaving all the free players rushing in. All the nuts, the kids will come in and the game will be 100 times worse. The land ownership is restricted to paying customers thank goodness but the PVP will be so much worse.
I will keep tabs on the game since I sunk so much $ into it. For now, I'm staying far far away from it. Huge disappointment but my fault for not doing my research.
Wildstar is fun and I pre-ordered it and I'm looking forward to other MMORPG's coming up.

this is exactly right. I have been in Arche age for a few weeks now and thus far I have seen NO ONE complaining about PvP, no one at all. It is pretty much accepted that at end game you will be PvPing for just about everything.
Which leads me to believe the so called 'hardcore' pvp crowd are once again whining and crying over nothing.
I am a PvPer, I also play PvE, and any other system a game offers. I say this because I have found it to be true time and again. The self titles 'hard core' PvPer's are the biggest whiners in gaming. The cry about balance, they cry about people that do not want to PvP, they cry abotu role play, they cry about everything, and when there is nothing left to cry about they come to the forums and cry about nothing, which is pretty much exactly what the OP is doing.
Most people get it, you do not, stop crying and play.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

I wish a game would use the SWG ruleset. It was perfect IMHO. One ruleset that catered to open world no safe zone PvP and to PvE only type players. It was a flagging system and I loved it.

However, yes the whiners...I mean gankers and emo kids are there in droves, but it is funny as hell to slap them around. Lol most of them can't pvp they can only gank, and when they come across a team that is organised, they end up running away with their tales between their legs.
AA is good enough I suppose, but as I said in a different thread I think The Repopulation will be 'the' Sand box mmo to be playing. The community in AA is already shit and will only get worse. Lets hope thaty is not tolerated in Repop.

Personally my biggest turn off is the PvP to this game. I watched a couple livesteams and I keep hearing the word "griefers" being used over and over and over which just makes me cringe. That being the case, I don't think carebears ruin games, rather those PvPers that engage in mindless and purposeless griefing are what ruins games. The trick is designing a system that weeds those people out so a game can be enjoyed properly. If supporting systems to weed out mindless griefing makes me a carebear than so be it.
Personally I am not sure why no other game has implemented a PvP system like SWG. I mean it was perfect. If you wanted open PvP, join a faction and wala, you have open PvP at any time. Don't want to PvP, don't join a faction but also lose access to all the faction rewards.

I just returned my rented carebear costume to the shop. I went into the offices at Trion and held the CEO hostage with my rainbow power until my demands were met.
Archeage will no longer have PvP on any continent. Instead, everyone will give flowers to each other when they meet.
All of which is my way of pointing out that we carebears can't ruin anything. All we can do is vote with our wallets by not playing a game we won't enjoy anyway. If Trion decides it wants a crack at those wallets, it knows what to do. If indeed the game's original developers will allow it.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
I laugh at all the insecure "hardcore" players who seem to enjoy using the term "carebear", carebear this, carebear that, usually they are so insecure about the carebears that they have carebears nightmares where a big bad carebear comes and steals their precious armor.
Bunch of insecure e-peeners, time to get out of your mommy's basement and discover that there is something out there outside, it is called Real Life.
Dont be afraid of us we will not destroy your precious game, but dont come crying later that the game shut down because no one wants to play, because careberas dont want to be ganked and moved on to another game with PVE servers.
Those of you that are older enough how many times you have seen PVPeers come to the PVE side creating threads and posts about joining the PVP servers because they are empty?
I could quote many times seeing this scene. So please grow up and mature and stop the insecurity, we are not going to come at night and steal your precious PVP helmet.

If by "ruined" you meant they will stay away in flocks and cause the game to fail unless they are also catered to, then yes.
Gankers only sustain small games that require whales to survive.
