Templar...any good with wearing medium or light armor?

SotoSoto Member UncommonPosts: 177

Are there any benefits having a Templar wearing medium or light armors? Most all come across are wearing full heavy...least it seems so.

Light is pretty important for the mana regen passives.

All classes are the same as far as which armor type they wear for what purpose(though some classes have armor buff abilities that give them more freedom).

Light - Magicka Builds(Class abilities and staves) - Passives buff magicka.

    Medium - Weapon Builds(DW, 2Hand, Bow, S&B) - Passives buff stamina.

Heavy - Tank - Passives buff survivability.

I'm going to assume many Dragon Knights and Templars, particularly at low levels, wear Heavy because they like the way it looks rather than worrying too much about the different armor benefits.

I don't know about higher VR templars, but from VR 1-5 I've seen caster type Templars runnning in 7/7 light armor to ranged dps or to heal. Most tanking/support builds are running 5 heavy + 2 light for mana regen.

From personal experience, I think racials are important, as well.

Here are a couple of different build-types to give you an idea

    Caster type: http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/mageplarerlex-pve-templar/

    Tank: http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/pve-pure-templar-tank/

I've heard of people saying a bow Templar with medium armor is also quite effective. I had some fun with a bow pre-50, but I've re-specced (how do you spell that?) and moved away from it, just because of my own play style.

Since you don't have to take any particular trait from any particular armor until it opens up with your skill level in that particular armor, all three armors can be mixed and matched in order to provide you with the look that you want while still being pretty functional in the effects that they provide.

That being said, as stated earlier, Light is going to assist you in magika, be it for or against, I use it for against.  Medium is going to assist you in stealth although I use it for its crit enhancing abilities, and heavy is going to assist you in damage resistance although it is also good for enhancing your damage as well.

Look at the different things that each piece offers and at what level the things you like become available and try to build the best combination of style and quality from all three.

Or not.  Up to you really.

Medium and light are fine.  I'm half way assuming heavy is so popular because it goes well with fotm bash builds that are getting nerfed in 1.1.

I've typically used 5 plate and 2 light, but it's personal preference.

For my heal spec Temp I use 5 light/2 hvy for the mana regen bonus. Hasn't been an issue soloing.
