MMO-like but NoN-mmo

I got a couple of friends. They are not interested in the whole mmorpg thing and investing hours to play a mmo, but I am keen to show them the great aspect of mmos- which was grouping.
Is there a game with similar gameplay to grouping in mmorpgs in a non-mmo?
Like something to fight mobs, and have the familiar tank-healer- damage dealer type thing.

    Why not try an instanced CORPG instead? You will see some players outside your group in towns but otherwise it will just be you guys.

    DDO is free and worth a try. The first Guildwars needs you to buy a box but you should be able to find it cheap.

    Otherwise there is always Diablo 3 and Path of exile.

    If you only want a lan game try out Titan quest 2.

    thats kinda tough the group is pretty genre-centric

    Maybe:

    some of the Starcraft 2/RTS game arcade custom maps 

    survival games like rust/dayz

    ARPGs like path of exile and diablo3

    borderland 2

    mmo with lots of instance would fit them, many have been mentioned in the earlier comment, i'll just going to add few, dragon nest, warframe, elsword, etc

    Warframe could be worth looking at for a co-op online game that has most of the aspects(if not all by modern standards) of an mmo and won't cost them anything.

    you could also try Neverwinter Nights 2 over a lan

    or Well of Souls

    Good suggestions, might I add Borderlands 1@2 as well. Maybe League/Dota 2. Dayz/Rust/7days to die/Dead Linger/Nether, Minecraft, Starbound,Terraria,Edge of space,

    You can only have one other player in dark souls to group with you

    I would say try Borderlands 2 because its combat is a lot of action and just fun in general, not the tab targeting hotbar type of stuff.

    Also when they come out, you should check out Destiny and The Division.
