Wildstar - Will you purchase it or not and why? (Poll)

BruhzaBruhza Member UncommonPosts: 391

Edit - Please leave a response why or why not. I am mainly doing this to see what people find good or bad about the game. What keeps you away or coming back for more?

Hello.

I haven't seen anything like this lately so I thought I would make one a little bit before the release.

Are you going to purchase Wildstar and what is your reason for what you decided? I just want a general view of what people find as this games main strengths and weaknesses.

I'll start. I will be purchasing it.

Strength - The difficulty is refreshing.

Weakness - Leveling "Could" get linear if you make too many alts at once.

I will be purchasing it, after experienced from Open Beta, it is quite good. But my main anticipation are Archage NA version, and Everquest Next. However, In the present time, there are no other latest AAA quality game than Wildstar (not interest in ESO), so I decide to play it while await for my main focused games.

Strength - Tons of Endgame Content, Housing, and Insanely Customization.

Weakness - Linear leveling quest, I really hate Graphic and Art style in this game.

I'm undecided thus far.  I'm not a fan of quest hub grinding which is probably the bulk of what you will be doing while leveling up in this game.  However, I'm a big fan of their warplot system.  I also like their extra profession paths like explorer, settler, etc.  Adds a nice extra touch to help differentiate people more and give more sub-roles for their Adventure system.  I also appreciate their art style and the sense of humor the devs put into teh game.  That being said though, again the quest hub grinding makes me question if it's worth a sub.

I'm inclined to agree with you on ArcheAge and the other MMO's. I think Wildstar will be my go-to game if all else fails.

(Though I am having doubts with ArcheAge due to the reactions in other countries. However I am enjoying myself in Alpha, I guess it mainly depends on how they handle their F2P system and which sandbox features they keep.)

Yeah, I can't disagree with that. The questing is more of the same, though they try to mix it up with quirky quests here and there. Going to be rolling on a PvP server myself so I can have a bit of interruption while I quest.

In Whitevale (lvl 22-24 ish I think?) the zone is interlocked with the opposite faction. I expect there to be quite a bit of PvP there at launch.

The adventures and dungeons are quite a bit of fun. Adventures kind of remind me of what SWTOR was going for...except done better and more complete.

    I will be purchasing.

I like the gameplay and Carbine seems like they have their shit together.

played closed beta, hit level 40 and well I find the game pretty much more of the same.

I don't mind quest hub leveling; in fact I prefer it makes things easier to tackle (but WS has a terrible quest hub), it's not even linear or non-linear it's a bastard son of wow and asian mmo questing lol.

Too many micromanaging (dodging, sprint, class resource, reputation currencies). Raiding is great, but you stare at the floor half the time for telegraphs. I feel the Carbine devs squandered their opportunity on making this game great with this old archaic system in place; not to mention the billion telegraphs in pvp that made me dizzy; I don't play wow with addons why I would want to look at the billion telegraphs (I know there's an adjustment for it).

The most annoying part is the "path" and challenge quests; those feel like they could've differentiated themselves from other top tier mmos; but instead they turned it into this annoying random quests.

Like any other NCsoft published games; it has potential, but I'm waiting a year before I even think about it; with WoW reborn coming soon, I doubt I will and given NCsoft's track record, I highly doubt I will.

Have pre-bought. My game time up to lvl27 has been very enjoyable. After GW2, I can play a real healer again. :) Love the telegraph system. Challenging PvE content. Salivating at the raids.

I was involved with the closed beta test, game plays well for what it is, but it isn't any different than most theme park MMO's that have come out in recent years. Its funny, quirky etc.. but I think at least for me the type of them park this is, is no longer what I am looking for. ESO offers a theme park but at least you can jump around a bit and not be driven from one quest to the next as seems to be the formulae started with WoW and seems to have become what the norm is now, albeit that norm seems to be changing with some up and coming titles, which I think is what MMO's need right now..

I found the PvP a bit chaotic also. They stressed that the telegraphs were there to give "information"...which I think would work fine in PvE situations.

However, in a PvP situation it feels like I am just standing in a sea of red and at low levels it doesn't even hurt that much. Hopefully at max with gear we can do more damage to others....otherwise it feels like I'm just hitting a target dummy.

I pre-ordered based on my beta experiences. Frankly it's the first new game I've seen in a long time that I really felt had a chance of going anywhere. Whether it will or not, time will tell.

On the plus side, as far as I'm concerned it's the first time I've seen action combat done right in an MMO. By that, of course, I mean done in a way that I found fun and organic rather than tedious and gimmicky. The graphics are nice, personally I have no problem with 'cartoony' as a style, and the sense-of-humor is fun. The promise of content that actually requires some skill is enticing, albeit after the Rift hit-everthing-with-a-nerf-planet debacle I'll always be leery of such promises.

On the minus side, I can see how the humor and the (on the Exile side, anyway) space cowboy twang could get real old real fast. If history is any indicator the chances of actual difficulty surviving the sea of player tears is slim to none. End game is always something of a question mark and while Carbine has been a lot more up front about discussing that than most, seeing will be believing. Then there's the usual trying to balance PvE and PvP issues, an early spear in the side of many a new game.

I dunno, personally I'm not even sure that anymore I'm willing to put the amount of time and energy into these sorts of games that one has to if you want to be the very best at what you do -- and frankly nothing less is worth bothering with to me -- so it may be moot. No downside to fiddling around with Wildstar, once it comes out, though, and until then I'll muck around in Eve and contemplate getting a HOTAS for E:D.

Variety is the spice of life, after all.

    And other such pointless aphorisms.

Removing the trinity out of an MMO was possibly one of the worst ideas the could have done in my opinion. Even in sandbox based games the trinity exists (Check EVE). Not saying GW2 was a failure necessarily, but it takes a certain mindset to enjoy it.

    On another note.

    Difficulty is the best.

I really believe this will go f2p.

Which is something i previously have not thought about mmorpgs, but as of late the games just seem to be going that way.

So no, i wont actually be "Purchasing" but will play for a bit after it goes f2p.

Too many aspects I don't enjoy in MMO gaming anymore. Raid/Dungeon focus, quest hub design, over the top cartoon stylized artwork, over the top humor. A definite pass for me.

I have purchased it, pre-order, and intend on playing for the first month. I like WildStar because to me it seems to be one of the most solid MMOs released in a while. It has a plethora of different gameplay elements, and they're all tight and work together nicely, from a technical standpoint. As a engineer I respect what carbine has created, and the hard work that has gone into architecting a massive game like WildStar. Now I don't know if its going to be mine, or everyone's cup of tea in terms of fun factor, only after the first month will that question be answered. But they have a really strong foundation to start with. But personally, I'm ok with paying $60 to play a game for 20-40 hours only for a month and then putting it down if I don't like it. That amount of time I feel I've gotten my money's worth.

Quest hubs will probably be around forever in MMO's. Heck, even EvE has some version of it (Though I think few use it). I understand your point though. Quest hubs are an old way of doing things, but I guess they didn't want to take a huge risk on something people would despise (oh the irony).

As for upcoming MMO's changing that, please let me know which mmo is getting rid of the quest hub.

Quite simply, the worst overall game, graphically and game function wise, that I have EVER played. Really incredible to me that this game is this bad.  I'am truly not trying to bash it, just obviously my feelings, and they are that alone...my feelings. However it really is a flop. I strongly suggest you try this one out before you consider purchasing it.

Yeah, Wildstar "feels" like a solid game. They do not try to reinvent the wheel, but they make enough different to make it feel worth playing. As for the cowboy exile side, it is one of the reasons I am going with Dominion (and because robots with swords are awesome).

I am worried about the promises as well, though they do seem more trust worthy than other recent devs. Only time will tell regarding that though.

I guess they are going for a month and a half content release schedule. Which I think is very doable. I hope it is permanent content rather than GW2 "Temporary" content.

    Opinions are respected.

However I have to disagree with the "Worst graphics ever". I think a better way to word that is that you simply don't enjoy that style. I take it you probably enjoy more realistic styled games.

Also, if you never made it out of the tutorial zones, you probably didn't see too man different game mechanics at work. I will admit, the early portion of this game is pretty bad. I hate the starting area (And some of them after).

You are not the only one I have seen bring up the graphics though. I guess it is a love or hate thing.

    Fair enough.

Agreed. When they changed the Dominion City I knew that they cared about what others commented on.
