Played in closed beta, I didn't like the gameplay and I had dreadful performance.

I really like the setting/lore and some of the NPCs though, but that's not enough for me to play the game.

I played the Beta and enjoyed the game. I purchased a deluxe edition in the pre-order. However, I cancelled it yesterday and got a refund. Archeage is just too good and much more my style. Had way more fun

I do not not need another generic themepark mmorpg in my life.. not saying its a bad game or anything from what i have tested it works well its just I have basically seen it all before and get pretty bored of themepark games these days.

So no i will not be buying this.

I will not be purchasing. I'm not sure why, but I really just couldn't find a character I liked. The game almost felt too stylized for my liking. I didn't like the way my character looked or the way he ran. Call me shallow, but that really bothered me. The game in general just didn't grab me the way others have. Not saying its bad. Just wasnt for me.

Do you like FPS's? If you do I'm sure you have played a lot of them, what about RTS's? Either way, I'm sure if you think about it you will realize how much of the same these are as you play new ones.

So if you like FPS's, and say you have played a bunch, I guess you are done with FPS's then? Is Halo just Call of Duty in space? I mean where is the line drawn here? Why does the MMORPG genre get all this hate?

Horrible analogy here. You can't compare an mmo to an fps. MMOs are a different beast with commitment and whatnot, compared to a fps where you can jump in a slay. Its possible to play many games from one genre and not want to do it with another. Not saying you can't commit to an fps and sink loads if time, of coarse you can, but its not so much of a requirement like an mmo.

The point I'm trying to make is that a "genre" is a "genre" for a reason. Yes, the term MMORPG is much more flexible than a term like FPS, but when you have an unfortunate flooding of the market (unfortunate only because of overall poor quality) you are going to see a lot of the same. I feel like Wildstar is a small evolution of the themepark style MMO, and I can only hope it will keep me hooked for a while.

I'm going to purchase it because that is what I like to do.  To me if you like mmorpgs you should purchase each one to play, even if you are somewhat on the fence about it. I get way more involved in the game if I have invested my money into it, and when I don't I tend to just dabble with it, like I do with f2p games. That is why I have trouble playing very far into betas, because I know all my time will be wiped on release.

I will purchase WS and play it as an MMO-Game while waiting next decent MMORPG (ArcheAge) to be released. How long will i keep playing, that remains to be seen.
  • KilrainKilrain Member RarePosts: 1,185

    No.

Why? I prefer sandbox. I was interested at one time when they claimed WS to be SandPark, but that's just not true. I would LOVE to play a "themepark" type game if it wasn't so easy. If I play a game and gain a level before i even know wtf I'm doing, I typically know I'm not going to like it.

Are you implying all FPS's are the same? that wouldn't be as laughable as saying all RTS's are but it's going pretty far. Wildstar embraced that sameness others have to different degrees, tried to avoid or cover up with presentation. Wildstar throws it right in your face with OS quest presentation (TXT), raid centric design, gated content, etc.etc..etc.. IMO it's really taking the themepark backwards in most categories. The one redeeming quality I can see is possibly housing but as far as I understand it's not open world housing, which renders it behind what I'd view as good housing systems.

ALL IMO of course. What's there might be a great game for someone looking for all of that, but that person certainly isn't me.

I didn't say they were all the same, but they are about as similar to each other as MMO's are to each other. You can't really deny that. They are different in many ways but have the same core gameplay ideas. Just like a lot of MMO's do. Of course there are some RTS and FPS that do things very differently, but it's the same story with MMORPG's.

I was a full time tester for over a year and I really enjoy Wildstar and think its better quality game then we have seen in many years. By that I mean it is polished and has an elder game and lots of it. They have put a new spin on many old ideas and they are fun. I bought 2 copies for my wife and I but this will just be a lay over till EQN comes out. If EQN sucks, we will be back to Wildstar.

Exactly, I feel like this game is just very polished and complete with a very small evolution.

    @ OP

I really hope the best for Wildstar like every other MMORPG, but companies that aim to turn profits over creating a game they would enjoy for themself has seen and will continue to see the sunset.

As a hardcore player Wildstar is not for me because it's a direct copy of WOW minus unproven and less classes available and less income to deliver content. I already know once I kill those bosses I won't have much left to do but wait for new content.

I'm only interested in MMO's that players create the content and shape the world. Example: When I was light jedi knight pre-cu bounties and their coverts where tracking, chasing me across planets because I was the "boss to be raided" for rewards.

While I had fun during the little bit I played, I realized WHILE playing what it is about MMOs that keep me from playing for more than a month - questing.  I know, that's what mmos are about, right?   Wildstar is definitely a cool game, but I just can't quest for weeks on end any more, so I won't be buying it.  To those who will be purchasing, have a blast - like I said, cool game, just too much questing.  Quest burnout - whoda thunkit?

Nope. Yet another mmo thrown into the trash bin again. Played beta and I thought it was ok for a few hours then realized I plyed this game when I was 25 years old. I'm in my 40's now so I still continue to play single player games or co-op online rpgs and fps games until Destiny and The Division get here.

i am not 100% sure i understand correctly what you are saying, but if you think that some professional company that creates mmorpg exist which is not creating it for profits then you are simply crazy.

I think I'm gonna throw up if I see the phrase "WoW clone" again... Going to leave this site now... Geez this is why I stopped coming here, nothing but a cesspool.

If that's what you are looking for that's great that you have found it. I'd rather deal with bugs and issues if it means I'm playing something akin to SWG again. Which is really what I'm looking for in the MMORPG space. My idea of elder game isn't raiding or dungeon crawls, it's being a part of a greater sum that all flows together into a coherent ecology.

I'm NOT buying it. I tried the game in beta and it felt like a game I would expect to find on a smart phone or tablet for free. I know that sounds like I'm bashing it, I dont mean to, thats just the feeling I had when I tried to play it. I did not enjoy it at all so I wasn't able to give it enough time to actually find and experience any features that are good that it may have. But thats why I wont buy it.

Doesnt mean its not going to be alot of fun for some, just not for me.

I loved the teaser trailers last year though, thats what got me interested, so the storyline might be pretty cool.

i will (already did) buy it, but i do agree with you - i would like mmorpgs to go back to having mobs as a main source of adventuring exps and long, hard, rare quests with great rewards (not only eq, but also skills, dungeon unlocks etc.)

My best MMO experience ever was PRE-CU SWG. Wildstar is in no way what I'm looking for. But it is what's there and it is fun so I'll play it for now because guess what? I don't see anything close to a PRE-CU SWG type game out there.

Nobody is going to take you seriously when you compare a AAA PC game to a tablet or smart phone game, no matter how much you try to tell us you aren't bashing or trolling.

You're right about that, there really isn't anything else really going on right now, so I don't blame you for that stance. There's some hope though with titles like the repopulation, Star Citizen and a few others.
