Two words...

Subscriber Rewards!

If you are listening this will make me feel that paying a sub is worth it.

No i don't hate the game, in fact i love it.

Problem is with summer approaching, and i have this thing called a life, family, job, kids and so on my playtime has plummeted, sure i'd love nothing more than to play hours upon hours but the boss at home has already given me a good month plus of knocking myself out playing this awesome game, but now... chit needs to get done, i'm busy so i'll get maybe a night or two a week and even then, might only be an hour or less and i'd love to have this as my escape game to play when i have the time but...

That $15 a month for a game i'm coasting on atm, well... but... if i knew i was getting a subscriber reward like so many other mmo's do now, dunno it would feel so much more worth my sub money, and not only that it makes us feel like you appreciate the sub by giving us rewards, it's truly a win-win scenario, i'm surprised how much i appreciated it in swtor, now kinda miss it here.

Good luck with hoping Zenimax will ever do something like that. And why should they? Games that do that have a f2p option in it.

Your reward is being able to play the game. What do you want, a cookie?

So, you want them to reduce the cost because you don't have time to play.  Hahahah.. that's cute.

You know what your reward is?  The insane amount of content that ESO has.  The quick patching of bugs.  Addition content that isn't cash shop oriented.  A (AAA) quality experience.  Sorry man, you just can't have everything for free.  The world doesn't revolve around you.

This! OP is basically suggesting adding a cash shop and then give us some money to shop there each month, lol. Only everyone is a sub right now.

I've been in that playtime you now seem to hit for years and am thankfull ESO is sub-based regardless my very limited gametime to play the game.

I have nothing against getting rewarded for being a sub but I see no reason why they should drop lower then 15 a month.

I think this is basically it in a P2P game. No special rewards for just staying subscribed even when you are not playing, or not playing enough to make it worth $15.

Maybe just unsub for a month to get stuff at home done then come back after that? You will certainly be very eager to play again after a break. Also prevents burn-out.

Subscriber awards pre-date F2P by many years in mainstream MMO's in the western market.

SWG had them in 2006 already, just as one example, they were nown as "Veteran Rewards". Guess how you accumulated Veteran Reward points ?

They are always a nice incentive if done well.

  • KyleranKyleran Member LegendaryPosts: 43,975

Much easier solution, just add in the accumulation of "rested experience" that you earn just for being subbed, and not actually logging into the game.

Make it substantial enough, and people wouldn't feel bad about staying subbed during slack times, because they would be gaining added value for their dollar.

How about eliminate vr levels. Once player hits 50 make it so players enter a tamriel world of just lvl 50, This way you have no vertical progression and the world feels truly open not just a ladder of zones. This is needed for proper world pvp in Cyrodiil, as players can just pvp at 50 without having to worry about being the latest vr rank. This will also allow player to redo their alliance quests at 50 if they wanted as well. Adding the adventure zones for difficulty and challenge. Personally I find the vr levels not challenging as we are not dealing with improved ai just more health to go through and dmg to mitigate ie gear grind.

The vr levels was a main reason why I didn't resub.

I think he more wants something like SOEs old veteran rewards... Something nice ingame every now and then to award loyal subscribers and that isn't a bad idea actually

Of course, you can't give away too much but maybe a nice skin or something else that really doesn't cost much for zenimax, and something more useful for every 12 months you been subscribing, like a nice mount or similar.

Rewarding faithful players isn't wrong, and it doesn't have to be expensive, in fact they would probably earn money on something like this.

Yea i remeber city of heroes/villains had something similar subing for 18 months get cosmetic wings on char and stuff like that

God forbid the subscriber award being, oh I don't know, content and an active staff constantly fixing bugs and working on the game.
  • YamotaYamota Member UncommonPosts: 6,593

I dunno. I am against everything for which you cant get by playing the game. Dont like the idea of rewarding people who may potentially not be playing as much as I dislike selling stuff for real money.

You want to get rewards? Play the game and earn it.

SWG provided a plethora of veteran subscriber awards...some really cool ones too.

That was a decade ago and that game was never F2P.

Hey Husvik tell me how Zenimax will respond to your idea if you post it here and not on the forums for Elder Scrolls Online.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

Gaming companies do read gaming forums, in fact they have people who post on them, both in favour of their game and against other companies games. One study estimated 25% of player reviews on Metacritic, Amazon etc were done by agents of gaming companies.

You are more likely to get noticed on an official forum, but treads there tend to last about a day before disappearing under new threads. If it was me I would ask this everywhere I post.

This is an old chestnut and succeeds or fails on how the awards accumulate and what they are, it is easy to get it wrong.

  • xpsyncxpsync Member EpicPosts: 1,854

akiira i posted here mainly for two reasons, one: it won't get swept under the rug as in other forums and two: on the mmorpg podcast they had Paul Sage on and he himself said the read these forums, so... lets see if the actually do.

If i had to write the post again i would say "Veteran Rewards" as Loke mentioned, which is more in line with what i was thinking, i plan on staying subbed, i can't express how in love i am with this game and i'm sure being a long time ES fan has allot to do with it.

With that said i'm sure many other players have down time too, at least i'd hope they do and knowing you are getting something for your loyalty would make that monthly sub much easier to swallow when you're not playing a whole lot due to responsibilities.

I'm fairly certain a large portion of their player base are ES fans i.e."single player gamers" who are used to play hard, stop and take a break, then play once the urge hits or have the time again. When that monthly hits and they are on a break for whatever reason, i'm sure that will break the sub too, however if you know Zenimax is recognizing your loyalty, again it would be much easier to just let that sub roll.

I think you could give them at least some time before Vet Rewards. As said before .. SWG didn't get them right off the bat, generally i think they want you to reach some kind of milestone first.

As others have said the idea of "subscriber rewards" is not new; pretty common actually. And that would be a good idea. However I would also introduce something big, upfront and very direct as well - something like:

e.g. I month sub gives 2 points with 1 "new content expansion" costing 3 points.

People leave. Whether they leave after a month or a year they leave. When (if) they come back they get all the content updates that have been released -  having paid nothing. Yes I know this would go against MFs "justification" for having a sub - everyone has access to all content but seriously was he saying that TESO would never release an expansion pack? Maybe he was!

  • Scott23Scott23 Member UncommonPosts: 293
Note that most veteran reward systems are put in after a couple of years after the game comes out.  It is hard to get excited about 1 year, 2 year, etc. rewards when the most you can have is 2 months :)

  • RosenthorneRosenthorne Member UncommonPosts: 94

Often the rewards are stuff like: fireworks, titles, cosmetic pet, bag extension, cosmetic face rework....and yes many of the old mmo's had them in 3, 6 mth, 1 yr , etc intervals.

Used to be nice to get rewarded for being loyal :)
