    I also despise subscriptions.

The character graphics are not like WoW, they are a combo of Orcs Must Die and some characters from the old "Loony Toons" "Bug Bunny" cartoons.

Remember..I hate MMOs, subs....but I really like Wild Star.

So... you tell us a couple of times you hate MMOs and you hate subs; then you go and say you hate cartoony graphics but compare Wildstar to a Saturday morning cartoon.

    Ok...

    Um...

If you like the game you shouldn't care what others post. I'm glad you found something you like. The whole wow clone thing is nothing to get upset about. All mmo's are clones of others in some way.

Don't even claim its not a wow clone. Those "people" who claim such will do so no matter how much proof you give. Their ignorance knows no ends, even if Wildstar is further away from "Wow" (Which is an EQ clone by their logic) then the mmo they probably are playing now. :)

That or if they aren't just there, you know mentally, good chances its just a troll.

People who say this is a WoW clone have only looked skin deep. Art style yes, under the hood, not even close. Skill system is nothing like the common talent specs system most WoW clones use. The biggest flavor in a MMO is the combat and it does not take long to see its not like WoW. Kill your first boss in a dungeon at level 20 and you will know that not even the raids will play out anything like WoW. Dont like the game, fine but dont insult anyone by the generic label "WoW Clone" as WoW itself was a clone.

Actually it is a WoW clone and even uses a few devs from vanilla WoW, idk where you are sourcing your info from in your rage page but this has SO MANY similarities with WoW with a few exceptions. Direction of PvP, raiding differences, aiming, crafting, paths, and a few other minute things.

Now... that being said this is not a bad game by any means, it's actually quite enjoyable for me personally, the twists and unique traits they have in pvp and raiding alone makes me want to play the game and pre-order which I've already done. Just because you like the game a lot though and don't want it to be a WoW Clone due to the derogatory nature of that term, don't delude yourself of the mechanics and core properties of the game.

I disagree I can customize my house. I can get a warplot and customize that which includes getting monsters for that.  I can pursue my paths which include exploration and this opens up areas others can join me to quest in. You can unlock slots and customize your character and your mount. I am sure others can add more.

Ask yourself this... if your friend wanted to play something different than WoW, could you really recommend Wildstar? I'd say you're doing them a disservice if you say yes.

I actually had one of my WoW friends try one of the beta's and he said it feels like he's playing a crappier version of WoW. Yes, he said that.

I like WOW from time to time.  I've never had a problem with their graphics.

Wildstar looks fun but it also has ridiculously derivative visuals.  The color palette and aesthetics are VERY similar.

It's not a pro or a con for me.

Darn kids need to stop calling things "WoW clones".  WoW is an Everquest 1 clone.  Everquest is a DikuMUD clone.  DikuMUD is a Dungeons and Dragons clone.  Get it right!  Wildstar and all these other MMO's are just D&D clones!

WoW and Wildstar are designed similarly because the design works.

Honda makes the Accord, and Toyota makes the Camry. They are both excellent cars, they both have wheels, an engine, doors, a trunk, and a variety of other features common to most cars. Are they clones? No, but they are designed in a similar way because it's been found that this is a good way to design a car. Is it a bad thing that they share so many similarities? Not at all... if Honda left out the wheels on their Accord because they didn't want to be called a clone of the Camry, I think someone would seriously question the engineer's intelligence. They also have many differences, which is why one is called the Accord, and one is called the Camry.

It's also been found that the current theme park mmo design is a pretty good way to design an mmo (because it gets subscribers for a long time, at least for WoW). This design includes dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, quests, and a whole bunch of other features. Wildstar designed themselves to capitalize on the best current design, without leaving out the wheels. Wildstar also has a bunch of other differences from WoW, which is why one is called WoW, and one is called Wildstar.

I think their both great games, with many important similarities, and many important differences. Appreciate them for what they are, or hate them for what they are. If you never liked WoW, Wildstar is probably not for you because it is designed in a similar fashion.

You know what I hate?  Well, pretty much everything but pertaining to this thread, I hate it when people excuse the first 10 to 20 levels based on what they MIGHT enjoy after that point.  Yeah this has been stated before because it's easy to hate something so bass-ackwards but I felt like getting it off my chest anyway.

As for WS, people call it a WoW clone primarily because of its cartoony exterior, but also because of its gear centric gameplay, 40 man raids, limited weapon choices, goofy humor, very similar BG setups, trinity, etc.

You can put some of those features in an MMO and people won't bat an eye, but when you lump them all together, you get a "WoW clone".

The only things that I could see that separate the two games dramatically are the housing (never cared for it myself but that's irrelevant) and the combat.

The game is ok for what it is, and hey I can't completely disagree with an OP that loves the Space Marines, but PLEASE stop pretending you don't get why people draw the comparisons.

  • BigbooBigboo Member Posts: 201
In WoD there will be Garrisons, now would that make WOW a clone of WS housing, this could be confusing.

The problem ofc is that it is a misuse of the word Clone (not similar, a copy).

Wildstar is not a copy, its The Blizzard devs within Carbine influencing the design where they think WOW succeeded.  Many different things from WOW, Housing, Combat, Paths, different Classes, duel role, Warplots, Storyline,  no easymode/normalmode/flexmode/someGetLootEveryWeek etc mode.  On the other side we have the cartoon style, the WOW style questing, huge seamless open world etc etc. Personally I enjoyed the early questing, it felt a bit like early vanilla, but you really need to fight the habit of wanting to rush ahead.

With regards to themeparks, they are what they are and they are a core element of pve mmorpg, never gonna change that much.

Can we all agree on the term "WOWesque or WOWish? Seems more fitting then "clone"

I prefer the term standard theme park, less inflammatory

Fits better, since it's not a copy, but it has a similar system in many areas, you can easily see how it's designed to appeal to the WoW crowd.

To me WildStar start don't bring much new to table to be honest with that i mean the have not add anything i have not see in other mmo and tell me that WildStar is not a WoW clone is big joke on OP part even combat system work the same as in WoW and you still have 1 button click action just like you have in WoW but i guess we have different idea of what WoW clone is but to me WS is a WoW clone.

  • daltaniousdaltanious Member UncommonPosts: 2,381

Like would be a bad thing. When I read "accusation" some game is Wow clone I'm already interested in, it must be good if it is Wow clone or have something from Wow.

Btw, for decades, all my cars have been "clones" of previous cars. :-)

Since both wildstar and wow does not have 1 button action (wildstar combat os totally different as well) and this is well understood by anyone who has seen or played the game you are clearly trolling. So wolf, why are you trolling this community- loner wolf is it?
