If the game were to go f2p, Would they still sell Virtual currency for cash?

If you look at credd now there is 2 sides to it:

1. I want more gold, I am willing to pay real money for that.
2. I want more game time, I am not willing (or do not want to) pay real money.

Even if the game time element is irrelevant, there is still gamers that want "gold" for cash.

Do you think carbine/ncsoft will continue to try and monetize this aspect?

I would assume its likely so. Its not bad for many F2P games. Honestly though, its a bit silly to be throwing up the F2P flag just yet. How the developers push it, they are quite adamant on keeping a good balance by having it P2P. Could potentially go F2P obviously, but it is silly to speculate such so early.

They are going to have Subscription Items in game you can sell to each other so technicially...   Yes they will be selling game currency for cash.

SoE products are F2P with a sub pay wall, you can play all you want for free but when you get close to end game sub players have an edge in many areas so you are forced to sub to join the end game community. They have a system like CREED. So yes if they followed SoE model and I guess they will in the end., CREED will still hold a place in the game. As this like SoE system would hold the title as a real F2P game because of it.

I'm just curious because this situation is kind of unique. I cannot think of any other company besides CCP that could explore this opportunity.

Well, to be fair any company could explore this technique. however this could be morally plausible. (ie they can do it with little backlash)

SoE has been doing it forever and their games are F2P.

    Huh, So they do.

And i suppose if they did go F2p or "Fremium" like the soe system that would be the best case for the players.

F2P is not a scary word and it does not mean a game has failed. Games that have been out for a while and have expansions under their belt start to look intimidating to new players. The investment to try the game gets higher and higher with each expansion. Some game companies like SoE have added a F2P system where you can get all the expansions for free up to the couple latest ones. You can play all the way to cap for free with some hindrances.

At level cap there is enough hindrances that joining the end game community is not something you can do as your char is not as powerful as a subbed char. So people who love the game in leveling up normally sub but people who would not have invested lots of money now get to try the game risk free and no trial to level 20 tells you anything about how a MMO plays. Add in a system like CREED and even with the hindrances at top level, you now have a real F2P game that Carbine still makes a sub for every player. So the development still gets a sub quality game. Its a real Win / Win.

There is many great reasons for this game to go F2P and have this type of Sub Item.

First, it keeps all the gold sellers out of business by redirecting all the cash to the company for currency that would have went to gold sellers instead.  Most people who buy gold would rather a safe transaction with the game company even if its a bit more priced.

Secondly, Free to play would allow people without jobs or unable to pay for a sub, to have access to the game with pleanty of time to farm gold to buy a sub, which is paid for by people who work and have less time to farm gold.  Its a win win situation for both the casual player who works in real life and the moneyless player.

actually f2p is very scary. i hate those games. always restrictions and catches. i would rather just pay a sub and get it all. as its been stated many times, $15/month isnt much money and if it is then playing games shouldnt b on ur plate.

now i do play neverwinter from time to time but free is the only way to play. i would rather sub to neverwinter and have chests drop rarely so i can open them rather then drop all the time and have to buy keys. f2p is the worst thing to happen to mmo's. now all the freeloaders want all games to b free. of course they will still bitch about it anyways. look at swtor. the game is free to lvl to 55. yet people still complain about it.

Real F2P games are not my style as well. SoE F2P system is more B2P. Fact is, SoE and SWToR saw a hug jump in subs after their unique F2P system was added and subbing from the start still gives the best experience. As for cry babies, they will cry no matter the payment model and we will never see an end to that in any game.

i dont mind if the game sells virtual currency for real cash as long as that real cash cant buy any and absolutely NO piece of power from a cash shop. Not even a crappy pair of blue/green boots because that crappy pair of boots is still better than npc merchant's gear, so that instantly becomes Pay to Win. When games are faceroll easy (probably every mmorpg released lately, including WS beta) i have to use crappy gear to make every fight more challenging so yeah.... if you can buy a $10 dollar hat that has more stats than my 50 gold gray hat then i dont want your game.

If it ever goes F2P it will likely be "freemium" with an optional subscription so I don't see CREDD changing. Most F2P conversions can't afford to lose the sub revenue, it's more about gaining new players and revenue sources than getting rid of the sub model.
