I think the game is awesome, but I know I can't compete so I'm skipping too - tired of getting rocked by losers with nothing else to do but farm the best gear, and practice 24 hours a day 365 days a year and I refuse to pay to win. I'm just going to stick to games that require skill only.
I was merely pointing out what is there, polished, and ready to go for launch. It was more of a response to the post talking about how they shouldn't focus on one thing while others are missing. It was not Implying that these things are new.
RE: the 80 man raid. It will be about as far away from a pug as can be. It is to be done AFTER clearing the 40 man raid AND somebody has the artifact weapon drop (rarest of the rare), AND they've completed the other achievements for the other imbuements on said weapon. And it is most likely going to be WAY harder than the last boss in the 40 man since it is a 2 boss at the same time type of event. PUG? not on your life. Most likely, you will see two hardcore guilds teaming up for it. Should be interesting for the PvP servers.
RE: Paths and Shiphands, that's your opinion, I like them.
RE: Elder Story quests...they're not dailies (although WS does have dailies). it's a one and done story quest for the people who enjoy lore in detail.
I'm not disagreeing with you on what's there on launch, my point was all those things listed are things that should be in a game at launch nowadays; simply because it has to compete with other games of similar nature.
But the 80 man raid, tbh that seems very unrealistic to an extent; not saying it won't happen. I'm sure it will happen just because people want it. Also have to take into account how many people are willing to help outside of the guild itself? Or how many will help inside of the guild? Raiding guilds aren't what it used to be since EQ/Vanilla WoW. Now this sounds jaded, but it is the truth. No guild will have 100% cooperation of their members; unless you're the TOP raiders from EVERY MMO; even then there's interpersonal politics, cliques; just too much stuff. It's like Carbine is forcing players to do this and that (sure you can say you don't have to, but we all know what happens when that person refuses).
And when I said like dailies for example I just meant MORE of the same questing and whatnot, not saying they're gonna make you do dailies; I mean they might.

Like you, I've always inevitably succumbed to the hype train at the 11th hour in the past.
WAR, AoC, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2... the list pitifully goes on, I'm sure.
When TESO rolled out, I played the beta. I realized this was WAR. AoC. Aion. Rift. Guild Wars 2. It's 70% WoW, 20% Innovation and 10% Bugs/Glitches. I play a more polished version of this game every time I log onto my still active WoW subscription... and, if I bought it, I'd be bored for 2 weeks and quit, realizing I'd just given my silent nod for developers to keep pumping out these 3/4 baked WoW clones.
When it came time to put my money on the table for TESO, I finally realized enough is enough.
I love Bethesda (and know they are bankrolling Zenimax) and I'm a big fan of Carbine as a company, but I'm finally sending that message that should have started with WAR back in 2008. I've had it with playing the same game for 10 years.
No more WoW Clones. I don't care if people list a few things Wildstar's doing to improve the World of Warcraft model... I'm sick of the model. And I really hope this game bombs as a result, so the industry will be forced to evolve.
That's where I'm at right now.
Game Developers: Give me a reason to leave World of Warcraft... don't give me a lesser polished version of World of Warcraft with a couple of bells and whistles. That's no longer worth my time.
Sounds like you are just done with MMOs.
I'm done with MMOs that take WoW, add a bell and whistle, and call it a day, yes. That's no longer good enough for me.
I'm waiting for the next WoW - the one that does to WoW what WoW did to Everquest: evolve the genre.
Ironically, I'm dying to play Everquest Next... because that, at least, looks like it's trying to repay the favor and go for something completely different. Jokes on me if I'm wrong, but I'd rather support a company that's at least trying to get us past this rut we're at rather than endorse more WoW clones by paying the box price.
If you're waiting for the next milestone in the genre, you're waiting a long time. WoW was a fluke, you may as well support a game that is feature complete and fun. Innovation is an iterative process, and if you're not willing to support a game that is actually doing just that, then you're not helping the genre progress towards the goal. WoW was in the same position years ago - adding a few things that EQ had. And Wildstar is releasing with all of the polish that took WoW years to attain. Maybe you're just done with MMOs. It's unrealistic to hate a game for having the staples of genre - quests, raids, dungeons, etc. - because if it didn't, people would be complaining it didn't have content to keep their guilds interested.

Blizzard didn't ask for charity. They simply produced a revolutionary game and people bought 12 million copies over a few years. Fluke? I disagree. Blizzard has been producing revolutionary games its entire existence. Warcraft. Starcraft. Diablo.
I'm not going to buy games that do nothing for me to "support the genre". And no, I'm not done with MMOs. I'm still playing WoW a few hours a week... and I'm still eager to try MMOs that look like they aren't just copying my World of Warcraft folder and changing 20% of the files. (IE: Everquest Next).
I don't hate a game for having quests, raids and dungeons. I hate a game when they might as well have lifted 80% of these quest, raids and dungeons from a game that's 10 years old.
I'm not tired of MMOs. I'm tired of the same MMO. Over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I understand how you feel OP yet I think to many now days believe every new mmo should be FREE TO PLAY!
I'm one of those that was in beta early 2013 and I still want to play so for me its worth it. Its different and I like that. Dungeons are hard and I really like that!
Hmmm... this is the first MMORPG I have pre-ordered in a very long time, so long in fact that I cannot remember the last one but it is probably going on ten years.
I am actually fairly immune to hype. For example, I did not buy into the hype of ESO despite my having followed its fortunes on here for a while. I am not excited about ArchAge, nor was I grabbed in by FF:XIV. So why did I pre-order WS?
Oddly enough, I do not feel hyped about this game in the sense of overabundance of joy and excitement to try it out, and that for sure it will be the best thing since sliced bread was invented. However, the game has a lot of features I like in my MMOs and I watched youtube videos of gameplay. It just seems to me to be the kind of game I want to play and has enough meat on its bones that I will enjoy it for a while.
Plus the devs have great track records of games I have previously enjoyed.
I think that this game will be a heavy hitter or sleeper hit, so I want to see it from its earliest days.
However, OP you are definitely wise to keep your money for either something else or until you want to play this game. There is nothing wrong by giving it several months to iron things out. I usually offer this bit of advice to other gamers too.
It didn't click with me, I honestly just want something different overall.

Regardless of how many times I've gotten burned, I've always been willing to give every new MMO a decent shot at launch.
While I've gone into many MMO's with unrealistic expectations, over the years I've learned that most games will probably only give me a couple of weeks of enjoyment before I go back to my normal rotation, and I'm OK with that.
But for the first time in many years, I'm not buying an MMO at launch and may pass on it altogether, which begs the question: Did Carbine do a poor job of marketing Wildstar or have I finally become immune to hype trains?
I am playing mmos for 15 years. I am bashing mmo for few years. I didnt bashed ESO and ive ended up qutting at around 26th day. Pissed off, ive looked around and saw Wildstar.
Watch few videos, then ive pretty much put the game in Brainless button smashing family. Even made a thread about it.
THen ive started to watch more videos, read about company, devs, etc.
HOLY SHIT! Ex Blizzard employees who want to succed probably more then they want to breath.
Ive bought the game and i freakin love myself for getting rid of the failure i have from not being able to play the game for 1 month
Buy the game, play the game...even the worst scenariu, 30 days one...its 1Euro per day to play it.
TOns of feature:
Veteran Dungeons and Adventures
Open World Bosses
20 man raids
40 man raids
80 man raid for final weapon Imbuements
2v2, 3v3, 5v5 Arenas
Battlegrounds
Warplots (Battle housing including the ability to summon bosses to fight with you)
Paths (Reasons to do additional content of your choosing)
A crafting system with talents and specializations within a chosen craft
Story line that can be done solo, that takes you through the raid dungeons and gives you more lore detail than actually doing the raid.
Elder solo story unlocked level 50 that going to be updated to keep solo gamers playing
Shiphands (Solo dungeon runs you can bring friends on)
It's okay not to hop on the hype train. If the game isn't for you that's fine. I see people making posts like "Why I won't play Wildstar" and I just laugh because no one really cares. Some will stick with WoW. Some will be playing ESO. Shit, I still play SWOTOR with some friends. All in all, we're all going to enjoy something in the end. If one day you hop on and see that Wildstar has potential to you, join us. There are a ton of reasons to play. And you might find reasons not to.
But for the first time in many years, I'm not buying an MMO at launch and may pass on it altogether, which begs the question: Did Carbine do a poor job of marketing Wildstar or have I finally become immune to hype trains?
Actually I would say we have been bombarded much more with WS advertising then for many other games. How long will stay, can't say at this moment. I'm bothered a looooot with - imo - very bad decision to limit all spells to 8 button toolbar. Very bad. If I would know this before maybe would not buy at all. Anyway, have purchased and so far from beta experience I can say I have rarely experienced games YEAR AFTER release to be so clean, bug free as is WS beta. In 3 days no bugs, no crashes, ... amazing. However past days have logged for short few times and for me lag was terrible, fps down to 10/15. But not for all. Looks like client update did something that ruined good fps before while many (would guess from chat, majority) have not been. No new drivers for my ATI are available, so must be client. Location (physical) for EU servers should be same so would really do not know. Just hope this will not be problem this friday.
What a stupid thread ... It was you man, it was alllllll you. You need companies to sell you their game with fancy commercials, loads of CGI, hype their own game telling you its something that its not?
Make up your own damn mind. Everybody had the chance to try out the game, Carbine has been pretty open and transparent with their game. They don't need a hype train, all they need is a good game.
If it's good enough people will join over time. MMO's are not supposed to be a hit and run of 1-2 months of gameplay, they are supposed to last years. That's why its such a big deal every time a MMO comes out, everyone is hoping it can be The One that they will play for years to come.
I was looking forward to Wildstar. The marketing videos made it out to be a lite hearted sifi mmo, and that it is. Now I totally learned from past mistakes that Marketing Videos are just that, videos without much reflection on game play.
Now my impressions of ACTUAL game play is that it makes you have a feeling that everything needs Immediate attention and somewhat obnoxious. Now this style of game play is good for some but I'm searching for a long standing mmo that I could play for years....And this environment is a little over the top for playing day in and day out.
Add in that quest seem short like " go here touch this, report back to me then go touch that ". Lots of hall ways and elevators that give you a confined claustrophobic feeling. This would make it difficult to play with others and just simply not my style.
I was really impressed of the marketing vids, but after tried in one of the beta, I decided to not jump on this train. It was to much lag and totally unplayable on my comp. I might try it later on.
And I dont have the time for it, still having to much fun in ESO! Also picked up SWTOR and having fun, and in autumn Blizzard is releasing WOD.
Will look at it since launch days are always interesting but I don't see myself sticking to it. Bought it and will play it as a time filler. Not expecting anything new but it's better than the pokies.
They're just games. Buy it, try it, then stay or move on. Requiring a dev or the internets to gurantee you'll be satisfied is a bit much, and not very reasonable.
I am very much in the same boat.. I just don't feel this game will fill the SyFy niche well, and to be honest NCSoft has not delivered enough times for me to be skeptical. The cartoon factor removes much of the edge/grit you need in SyFy, and I just don't see it being an immersive game experience.
I was pretty much in the same boat. I got a closed beta invite, but when attempting to activate the invite I found that some years ago my old NCsoft account had been hacked, and whatever they did with it got me a ban. Upon hitting that small roadblock, I said screw it. When open beta rolled around, I finally mustered up the gumption necessary to spend 30 seconds making a new account. THAT was when the "aha!" moment happened. After playing a few classes, I'm pretty pumped for the game and have pre-ordered.
My excitement levels aren't what they were when I was a kid, but this is the first game in a long while (since the original Darkfall) that I got excited about a release.
