Spending 150 on any completed game is something I would never do.  Much less an INCOMPLETE game that has no guarantee of ever reaching "released" status.  Is this what PC gaming has devolved into?  So tired of the all the early access games on steam and all their "potential".   I don't fucking want potential.  I want a goddamn fully functional working game.

Obviously this plan is working out great for companies as more and more seem to be jumping on this bandwagon.  It's a shame that gamer's these days are so damn gullible.

No one forcing you to pay anything. 150 to play the game 6 months before release and get exclusive in game items is not that much. No different than buying Wildstar or TESO and subbing 6 months. If you can't afford it just say it, don't mock others for what they want to do with their money.

Your whole post is just you rationalizing away spending 150$ to alpha test someone else's game.  Those devs are probably snorting lines of coke off strippers tits using the cash you gave them lol.  I think I can  hear them screamin out "SUUUCKKKERSSSS!"

I didn't pony up the dough for the alpha test, I did to support the development of the game. Its not like the other "alpha games" you see, this development team actually needed the funds because they are self publishing and funding the game themselves. I'll never put money like that into a game by SoE and I certainly didn't with ArcheAge either.

    Yeah.

If there are legit games to receive crowd funding support for development than TR is one of those.

Say no to cookie-cutter themeparks and support TR !

these kickstarter alpha access packs are getting out of control really..

I argee that nichy companies need some sort backup in order to produce a game..

i am not talking only about the repopulation tho..

But tbh: the world is currenly upside down..

they should pay ME in order to test their game.. this is how it should be.. and not the other way around..

But then again like i said above i agree with nichy companies that sell these kinda deals.. because they need to know if the there are enough players that are intrested in their game..

But if you see SOE and TRION for example.. those companies can burn to the ground if ask me.. they already have money for development but simply scam these alpha access deals.

KICKSTARTER DEALS SHOULD NOT APPLY FOR COMPANIES WHO HAVE X AMOUNT NET SALES EACH YEAR

still, i have high hopes for Repop, i truly do, and i will 100% play this when its full release, hell ill even use the cash shop if the game turns out to be really good, but sorry for now i dont think i will do 150 for alpha

all the best for those who will, and we all depend on you to make sure you guys give a good feedback to make the game awesome

As someone in the Archeage Alpha I want to know where you people heard its $150 to play in the Alpha? I bought a founders/collectors pack which gave me $150 worth( or more) of in-game items,3 months patron status and Alpha and beta access. How many Collectors ed. of games have you bought for a book or statue or a "special" DLC that should have been in the game for $79/$99/$150?

I heard it from you.. you just said you paid 150 for alpha/beta..and whatever.  Listing more "stuff" does not mean you  didn't have to pay 150 does it?

Why bother trying to change facts? :P You paid 150 , hope you are enjoying the alpha:)

$150, no way. I can wait, but this is one I keep an eye on.

I decided to go visit the official site not knowing much about this game at all. I found out one of the packages is, $150 for WEEKEND access. I spent the same amount on Archeage when it was in Alpha because it could be played 24/7, around the clock not just on weekends. If Archeage had only been weekends, there is no way on this earth I would have spent that kind of money on it.

Apparently some gals and guys don't mind only playing weekends but I will pass. If they progress to 24/7, then I will look at it's progress again.

  • CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505

Remember its not $150 to play the game.. its a $150 to get access to the ALPHA TEST and then you will also get a ton of additional stuff for launch, cash to spend in game, tokens and so on..

I backed it for round two beta access, I dont really want to spoil the game by testing it to early on.. still i cant wait for this to release its the only MMORPG i am looking forward to at the moment.

Also remember it wont be long before this game goes into the early stages of Beta..

It is $100 for 1 weekend of access and $150 for full access right now. The Weekend access accounts should have full access in a month or two and we will adjust the access levels again adding in lower price packages. This will continue until everyone has access and the price point is $25 for Beta access. We do give out keys on occasion and will continue to ramp that up as well through the remainder of the year.

Wait.... players are paying a gaming company to test an unfinished game for them? And paying the price of 2.5 fully finished games? Wow.... Maybe I should step away from this genre....

Remember the guy that said earlier not to pay for alpha or beta access for any games in the AA forum and everyone jump him for it.

Now everyone is ok with the fact of not paying for alpha or beta for this one? We did say in the other post that was in the AA forums none should have to pay for alpha or beta of any games else if we keep paying for it every game in the future will include this feature and get a crappy product on the market. Everyone said not true , blah, blah, blah.

And there you go, this is the new game or reboot of a game coming out with this exact same option. Thank you guys for making a precedent in the gaming community and ruining everyones games by paying for not finish product that you wont even make better even by testing it by paying the big bucks.

Would only do it if the game would release full sub-based.

I just fear F2P and what it brings into the game. Regardless if it has several payment options.

To be honost I don't mind themepark games that are F2P because of their more limited nature. But when it comes to a more sandbox type of MMORPG I'm really not sure if that is what will make the game populair.

Maybe I'm old fashion but a good sandbox will gain popularity due to word of mouth IF it has a sub. With today's generation of gamers who are mostly experianced with themepark games to give acces to a sandbox for free doesn't bode very well in my opinion.

Just look how quickly people get bored consuming content like there is no tommorow. Now imagine those people entering a game with minimal guide-lines........

I can pretty much guarantee there has never been a game like this before. Just labeling one as "sci-fi" doesn't count.

Do you have actually played it over a lengthy time and not one of the developers.. so you bought the $150 package?

NDA? Or can you give any infos? Or are you just another overhyped fanboy of a random MMO in development.

In all honestly i have heard all of it. You can base something about what you see, but we do actually don't see a lot about Repopulation.. with other word now it is just a little bit more as Vision. And as long it is actually finished and as long as i couldn't play it for any lengthy time(or others i trust somewhat) i will really not rate how good or bad that game is.. because we don't actually know.

With other words.. as long as you don't have played it for any lengthy time be careful with your bold words "I can pretty much guarantee there has never been a game like this before" because it will most probably backfire.

if you need something to know about 'the repopulation' just visit their webpage. tons of detailed (!) information about this game and its current status. and if you take your time to read all the information you will see that this game has a great concept. if abtech (the developer) can deliver 'the repopulation' will be the rightful successor of star wars galaxies updated with a lot of great ideas and features.

yes, this game comes from a small indi company and yes, they use kickstarter as additional (!) source for money. but in comparison to many other kickstarter projects abtech is very transparent in what they will use the money for. to spend 150$ for 'the repopulation' is an investment in an idea, same amount of money for archeage is paying for the f2p payment model trion need to go with cause of the competition.

and for all players who want to play a full style challenging mmorpg with player driven economy, variant styles of player housing, complex and meaningful crafting (from a decorative vase to defense towers for a player build town), skill based character system and the freedom to choose from various activities when you are online in a vast world in which pve and pvp players can get very happy .... then keep an eye on this one, because in the next 2 years nothing comparable will be release.

You mean $150 is for all weekends? It's still not daily 24/7 access?

This is going to end up just like City of Steam.  They got backers/donations and had an awesome fun alpha, but when beta hit you could tell something was amiss.  Then they took more donations.  After that they sold the game to R2 which watered/dumbed it down, put in a massive cash shop and pretty much handed the backers a complete piece of trash.

Eventhough i'm sure you have thouroughly read up on the Repopulation crowdfunding, let me please elaborate.

You invest towards the game (funded by crowdsourcing) because you believe in it and want to see it succeed. One of the tokens of appreciation you'll get for that is access to the alpha/beta tests where you will get the chance to influence the improvement and progress of  Repop.

There are a lot more perks to a pledge though, some would compare this to a pre-sell.

You make it sound like AB&T uses this money to have parties and drink champagne all day. This money, every cent of it, is spend toward the development of the game.

And yes ... it's obscene with how little money and how much community effort this game already developped to the level it is now because the people working on it invest obscene amounts of time and passion.

Alphas & Betas are not intended for you to play the game and see if you like it (well, maybe the last open betas I have seen have turned into that). They are for design/test and test/polish the game. If you pay for them, you know in what you are spending your money. In compensation, companies provide "founding" stuff comparable with the one you obtain buying a Deluxe Edition or shop coins to expend inside the game (usually comparable to 3-6 monthly dues of a sub game).

Being more specific to this game, I paid for the alpha because I have been looking for a game like this for years and I want to see it reaching the live status. So, I supported its development.
