KjarlKjarl Member Posts: 76

I was told there was a poll taken and that tuesday morning was the time most people picked for a SIX HOUR restart of servers. I wanna do my own poll.

I don't mind the day, though i do hate the time. I live in europ and play on the US servers so all of my afternoon would have to be spent on something else(also tuesday is the day i finnish my lessons early so it does get boring >.< ). But tbh even though i find it odd to make it on a tuesday(whats special about the particular day of the week called "tuesday"??) the time it is right now does seem the best since it would be the time most people would be at work/school/asleep(for most of the morning) or else just out.

Im about to upset some people and Im kinda sorry about that but... Euro players on US server, In my oppinion, should not count towards when a US server is brought down. If thats how Blizz did it then I have lost what little respect I did have for thier customer service. Euro's have thier own servers to suit thier time zones for most every game and I cant see midnight-9am as being any worse than the current date ( And Far better for the most part) for the majority of the people in the US.

I do work with servers and networks and I do know they sometimes have to be taken down and patched or reset or one of a million other things. I also know you darn well dont do it at the start of the bussiness day, thats just bad bussiness.

If my company took its Email servers down at 8am on tuesday and didnt bring it back up till 2pm that afternoon we wouldnt be a company for long. Then to try to do that every tuesday, people would linch us.

Prime time for WoW (aka beginning of business hours) doesn't begin at 8 am.

Need more votes to get an accurate view of a large player base.

I wish they would do a daily one hour reset, with a 6 hour maintenance every few weeks.

I voted for option number two because I am always on at the first time now that the summer has come about. I know it sounds like I'm greedy but I'd doubt that a lot of people would be on at 3 in the morning over 6 in the morning.

Looking at the times, it looks like it would effect less people at 3:00 AM. But god forbid that what the player base interferes with the devs' sleep.

they are getting close to 21 million a month in fees. They can pay the devs to come in at any hour.

Another week another 6 hour wait. Lets hear from ya, take the poll. I know in many parts of the westcoast school isnt out for summer yet, will be interesting in a cpl weeks to see how the poll changes, if at all.

yeah i can see a reset taking an hour but 6 crap man........

  • KjarlKjarl Member Posts: 76

I would be up for being down 1-2 hours everyday if they did it at 5am PST but 6 hours... Well like I said earler, will be interesting over the next few weeks as more and more people get out of school.

There is a huge difference in taking the game servers down at the start of a business day and taking down email servers at the start of a business day. A HUGE difference! For one, alot of there customers are still on and midnight and later. Believe it or not this has been hashed out time and time again with different games. The time when most people are not going to be using the game is during the morning to noon hours. Most people are either working or in school. Whether you want to believe it or not...thats the facts.

As far as you taking down your email servers in the morning.....yeah im guessing most of your business would be using it at that time frame. ( totally different than the gaming servers).

I do realise there is a difference between companies and thier peek times arent all the same but as I said, it will be very interesting to see how the poll shapes up as the schools let out for summer. Already the wow boards are flooded more than ever screaming for a different reset time. I have also heard (but cant find this for fact) that blizzard doesnt control thier servers, they have another company that does it. They (Blizzard) has reported that they now have 2million+ subscriptions, you would think a company making over 30 million a month (on avg) could afford thier own IT people and have more control over thier servers.

Thats just my thoughts on it, Im sure they have a good reason for doing what they do. I would just like to see what my fellow gamers think as they take the poll.

Take care and hope ya had a great weekend.

Why do you care about the kids or college students with no jobs  getting out for summer? Two months and they all go back to school. Blizz isnt changing it for 2  months out of the year. And for real...its 1 day.

Plus, damn kids get out for summer vacation dont need to have there face glued to a computer monitor all summer.

Kids and College Students make up a great bulk of the WoW population.  You must appease the masses.  Besides you have to think of the time differences too.  Playing in EST the servers don't come back until the middle of the afternoon.  So why should people with a day off or work later have to give up their time becuase they won't get the devs to come in an couple hours earlier.

PST players aren't really affected because how many players play until after mindnight if they got to work the next day. So they get their servers fixed while they sleep.  Moving the time back would be beneficial to all.  Think of the greater good here people :).

Moving it back wouldnt be beneficial. You guys cant get it through your thick skulls that 9- 10 months out of the year, it IS the time when most people arent on. And a great bulk doesnt constitute a majority of the population. Also like I said, they arent switching it up for just 2 months of the year.

But w/e, it isnt going to change.

I dont expect Blizz to change anything based on a Poll they themselves didnt do. What I wanted with this poll was to see if blizzard was right. In the early days of the poll they were right. Now its swinging back towards a change. In a few months it may go back the other way. I just want to see what my fellow gamers think for myself.

Thanks for posting and taking the poll.

Something else I didnt really think of before. Even when SOE or other game companies have to reset servers or do patches, atleast thier forums aren't down. It would be nice to have the forums to chat on. I remember when playing EQ2 the down time of the servers was when I would check the forums, get advice on characters I had made, or help with quests I was stuck on. Cant even do that much with the way they have thier servers set up.

Just wanna bump this to see if we can get more votes.

    Thanks guys

With 2.5 million people playing, I dont think your goign to get the amount needed to make an accurate conclusion .
  • KjarlKjarl Member Posts: 76

thats true but would still be interesting to see how it turns out.

I doubt it very much the real figures will be 2.5 mill.  It is marketing.  You start an account that is one.  You cancel then come back say when bg is released they will count that again. Same account just activated 2 times, but still 2 to there counts.  There is few more tricks but that is widely used one.

How many total servers is there?  With the size of the world and what about 200 servers.  That is average of 12.5 k.  Doubt it very much there is 12k on each server.  They even state that the cenus type of software for there servers is not accurate.  They do know the # but never release them.  Just say there not accurate.

blah blah blah....so lets say there is 2 mill or even 1 mill , it wouldnt be an adequate amount of people. Nay sayers have to make up stuff because they cant believe how good the game is doing. SO what if its only 2 mill? Is that bad?

    lol

Guess I know what area of work you wont be in when you grow up. It is still alot of cash, but if they loose 1/5 of there subscribers after a period of short time after a patch. Is the game getting better or worse? Daoc after there toa release lost alot then now they installing servers with range on buffs (aka no buff bots ::::40::) or toa content in it. It looks like wow needs to address it or steadly loose more. Doesnt matter how big your product is. With overheads, purchasing equipment and labor costs. In time the cost will out way your income. The more money you make the more money it takes to hold it. True Bama it is alot. Huge for mmo.
