My husband and I are long time MMO players - from UO to our current of WoW.
Need help choosing between Wildstar, Elder Scrolls Online, and Rift.
We primarily love pvp, especially open world style that UO provided and things like Tol Barad in WoW and other types of battlegrounds.
The housing in Wildstar appeals to me as does the class customization. Please, if you've tried any of the 3, let me know which you'd choose.
thanks!!!!

I have not played eso, but I have played rift, wow, uo, and wildstar. In my opinion, wilsdstar is the most enjoyable out of that list.

ESO - While getting to max level is fairly enjoyable the massive grind afterwards is not so much. The PvP is alright at best. There is no open world PvP but just the huge PvP zone where most people just zerg. Its a game of numbers in my opinion. Personally I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Running back gets old pretty fast. (Its like 10-20 mins to get back where you want to be.)
Rift - While the game has a pretty good idea, it really doesn't feel...original. At all. While it has open world PvP I do not believe it surpasses what WoW already does. (And honestly, WoW just does most of it better). The endgame very well could have changed since I last played, so I can't really comment on that too much. My view on it was that it felt overly generic and kind of soulless.
Wildstar - This game took me by surprise. Not because I didn't know what to expect, but because of how well it all came together at launch. Open world PvP on this game is very active and in my opinion, very fun. Guilds are at each others necks (At least on my server, which is Pago.) and fairly large fights always break out. I will warn that the battlegrounds do take a while to get used to, but they have an insane replay value to them. While Wildstar's concepts are not new, the game itself still feels like its own thing. It doesn't feel like some cheap generic knockoff of what has already been done a thousand times.
I would recommend Wildstar for those who miss difficulty in their MMO's. Questing is there, but it isn't exactly fast. This game takes time and it has plenty for players to do at endgame. As someone who hates or simply doesn't play much PvE, I must say the PvE in this game is fantastic and feels almost dangerous. The tradeskills are also pretty awesome.
TL:DR - Wildstar
if its pvp probably wildstar
Rift- pvp is its weak point. although they also have a really cool "housing system" and its free with a non predatory cash shop
Eso- only has one pvp mode which is an open/siege style area, but you need to complete a lengthy pve grind to be competitive. eso also currently offers no housing
wildstar- has a pvp progression system that can be done independently of pve after level 6. at max level it also has multiple pvp modes( BGs, arena, warplots, and open world(on pvp servers). the housing has some interesting things attached (although i still feel rift dimensions are better) like crafting and gathering nodes, free placement of objects, and challenges.
Thank you incredibly for the detailed reply. Spent hours just doing first few levels on an exile Esper and wow the spell graphics at low level even are awesome. Turns out I rolled on the unofficial oceanc pvp realm, so might have to start again as I'm ease coast USA. Again, many thanks.

So the art style wasn't an issue at all -- found it quite charming in fact!
What I couldn't get past is the sci-fi of it all -- that said, I am still looking for an MMO whose setting is a fantasy world with PvP and possible housing. I logged on WoW last night did a few battlegrounds and I just feel like I could play with my eyes shut.

Have you guys thought about trying Aion or Darkfall? I have not played either, but from what I've heard PVP is supposed to be fun in those games. Big open world battles. Plus Aion is F2P with a fair cash shop, so you won't lose anything by trying it. Most of the fantasy games I've tried, PVP was not the strong point of the game.
Out of the games you mentioned (minus WS since you've tried it), I played ESO beta and wasn't sold on it. I have many hours in Rift and I still enjoy popping in from time to time. As someone said the PVP isn't it's strongest point, but the housing is some of the best.
Ive played all 3. Rift is F2p. You can test it out but Wildstar is a new game, less then 1 month since it was released and has Open World PVP>
If you guys are that hardcore on pvp, buy Darkfall, its 5Euro/$ this days, due to -75% sale.
