Cannot get AO to run on win 7 or 8.1

About a year ago I thought I would check in with AO to see how things are going.  At that time I was using Win 7.  I down loaded the game and started it up.  Everything went well until after I created my character.  When I tried to go to Rubi-Ka it said that user ID is in use.  Well that user ID was about 5 minutes old.  It let me create an account with it so it made no sence.

I contacted AO support and explained the problem.  too make a long story short, after about 7 or 8 Emails back and forth they  finally gave up and that was that.

 

I recently got a new PC that uses Win 8.1 and I have the same problem.  I also created a new account with a new user ID.

Has anyone else ran into this ???

I went back a few months ago with windows 7 with no problems but I was using characters I made years before.

I wonder if it could be a firewall thing or AV problem.  AO is an older game right? never played it, just trying to help.
