Empire building games like the old AoE online

My fondest memories was when I used to play Age of Empires (Conq) online on Zone.com. I used to play all day and all night I never got bored. For those non familiar to the genre, basically you start out picking your Empire Race,you are teamed up in teams of 3 or 5 going against another team of 3 or 5 and you just have to quickly build an army, by cutting wood, building farms, houses, military, then you go and attack the other team on the other side of the map.

 

I was looking for a similar type game where you can play with others, I tried the MOBA games but it's just not the same feeling.

Anyone have a clue to what I'm referring to?

Might and Magic online is somewhat similar if im not mistaken. Its been awhile since I played either one.

You can buy Age of EMpires 2 HD edition on Steam, it's even got a new expansion!

stronghold crusaders or stronghold online is very similar im not sure how they play tho but worth a try the online version is free.

Starcraft 2 is what you are looking for.  The genre is RTS.  Starcraft 2 has the largest player base for this style of game currently
