I've been playing this game a year now, and seen it change quite a bit. I can understand some people's qualms with the game. It does come with a handful of bugs. But it's to be expected for a patch as big as this- it's literally the size of an expansion pack for any other game, and it's all here, for free. The game has changed a lot over this past year for sure.

There's tons of dynamic content now. You can fight tornados, have death squads sent out for you, you can accidentally find yourself stuck in a minefield, you can raid monster nests, and have random distress calls sent out to you in the field. There's even more dynamic ARES missions you can do- and they have also added in a job board which will appear more familiar to you RPG types. The new user experience has improved a bunch, so you can learn the ropes of the game pretty fast. The only thing they don't explain too much yet is crafting, but I am sure that is coming.

Gear has changed a lot too. Loot drops are much more common, and it takes much less resources to craft anything. Weapons and abilities now take modules, and modules can change everything about your gun. Your gun might appear weak at first- but after you add modules, it becomes a whole nother beast. Do you add more damage, or make it faster? Do you make it charge up faster?

If you're a shooter fan and like class-based shooters, get this game. If you're an RPG fan and know how to aim a mouse, get this game. If you're looking for something a world different than all these cookie cutter themepark games out there, get this game. If you want a game that feels truely alive, get this game. You have nothing to lose- it's free.

Oh, I ought to mention... Red 5 is giving out a lot of free starter packs. Just tune into their twitch when they are airing, they usually give something away every 15 minutes or so. www.twitch.tv/r5studios.

Stay frosty, or something like that. :)

There's tons of dynamic content now. You can fight tornados(This was available before), have death squads sent out for you(Didnt experience this unless you mean the chosen strike teams which seem to happen a lot less often than before), you can accidentally find yourself stuck in a minefield(These were pretty awesome), you can raid monster nests(You could do this before and there were a lot more nests around before), and have random distress calls sent out to you in the field(The new ones were pretty good like lite-ARES missions but not often at all). There's even more dynamic ARES missions you can do(Which are currently bugged and if you walk out of Dredge, you can find an ARES mission restarting every ~3 minutes after you finish it while the rest of the landscape has terribad times for ARES missions)- and they have also added in a job board which will appear more familiar to you RPG types(Some are good but there are a ton of god forsaken escort quests and by god the backtracking on these are extremely annoying). The new user experience has improved a bunch, so you can learn the ropes of the game pretty fast. The only thing they don't explain too much yet is crafting, but I am sure that is coming.

Do you add more damage, or make it faster? Do you make it charge up faster?(The modules are a lot more restrictive than the part building from before although they did add a few that were not possible to use before.  Its also a pain because there are random affixes now to crafting so you just keep crafting until you get the affix you want)

The throttling back of dynamic content was a bug, and not intended. (Link)

Death Squads are different from the Strike Teams- they literally target one player and hunt them down, with a Chosen Executioner. It's pretty awesome. :)

Firefall never appealed to me but a couple of weeks ago I decided to give it a shot and I was suprised.  It is not the best game I ever played but I am deffinetely having fun and seeing how the game currently is I will probably put a lot more hours into it.

Videos and streams always put me off on trying the game but the gameplay actually feels nice.

I remember enjoying the game when I tried it out. What ended up making me rage quit was someone triggering the next part of an event and having all the creatures instantly spawn on you and kill you.

    Was this ever fixed?

Imo the game is horrible now that they have added gated level content.

It's no secret that I enjoyed Firefall before. And while I loved its direction then, it was clearly not working.

I'm enjoying this more refined version much more, to be perfectly honest. The original was pretty good, but not cohesive. This feels like a much more solid and directed product.  It's different than what it set out to be, sure. But it's also more fun now.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

This so much! I've been kicking this game around for the better part of a year now and when the beta first started it just felt a little empty. That said, I'm a PvE guy, so I love my Dungeons, etc. so I always chalked it up to that (even though the dynamic events and melding pockets were a cool innovation). I just couldn't get "hooked". Now I'm at least feeling a little more enthusiastic about it after getting back into it recently after a long break.

It seems to be a big hit on steam now. And it really is all about having fun. It really has a lot of Beta Veteran hate because they don't like the changes. They made the game have mass appeal. So the hardcore beta players are qq on the boards over the littlest things. It kind of reminds me of Wow when it first came out. The veteran Blizzard rts players said they would never surpport wow because it wold have pve as its main focus or have seperate servers for pvp and pve. Blizzard had the guts to stick with their idea for wow and the rest is history. Red5 is a game company and they want to make money. I think this game will blow up on the 29th. I have 10 people i know that can't wait for this release and they are bringing more people into it too. Its different enough to make people want to try it out. And if red5 can keep up with fixes and content, they may have a beast on their hands. Look at some of the reviews on this and most of them say the same thing.

I don't think you understand.  The game is quite different than it was in the last beta version. They took a unique and wonderful concept and trashed it. Now for all of you who love the same old MMO type theme park you will really like Firefall. A lot of us vets are disappointed.

Right now the game is just full of bugs...so much so I took a three day break. Whether these things are worked out before launch...who knows? Escort quests don't work right, dynamic events are almost non-existent, crafting is a mess, and the game is just not fun.  That's it in a nutshell...not fun. I still remember version .8 with fondness because I just got lost in the fun and leveling came second. THAT's what MMO's should be about.

Oh I forgot to mention jump jets....I was on last week when a dev said something like "Yeah I thought they were a OP so we cut them back". He went silent after being blasted by unhappy players.  Yep...let's nerf the most fun aspect of the game....BRILLIANT!

I find it surprising fun, but then again, I am a sucker for any game that reminds me of Tribes. Global Agenda came close, but this game has a more open world feel to it then Global Agenda ever did.

I look forward to trying this game to see where it leads.
