Same faction open world PvP confirmed, COMING SOON!

Quakecon's new reveal with the incoming justice system just confirmed open world PvP.  When you steal or murder NPC's a bounty is placed on your head and other players can hunt you down.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

If this is true, then it should be interesting to see how they handle it.

Looks that way but I think like Skyrim, then quest NPC's and certain others are immune.  Or at least I would hope so.

Its possible only the Dark Brotherhood kill missions would be classed as murders... which would lead to a very interesting situation where players who did this quest line would be killable by their own faction.

The obvious question is: How will you find the people to hunt them down under the multi-instance megaserver model.

If you accept a bounty will it ensure you exist in the same instance?

I've always hoped for open world pvp and a decent alignment system in this game, that would bring it much closer to why I play Darkfall.

    Low hanging fruit.

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

I believe they will have the person who kills the NPC and those who take the bounty all go to their own instance, if so this could get very lonely for them.

Azzamasin, also your title is misleading since the pvp will only be against those who steal or murder.

Nice, what would be cool is NPC's that offer updates on a target's current position. Place them around the world have them work similar to bounty droids in SWG. They give a round about estimate of where the player may be.

same faction open world pvp tied to justice system sounds pretty interesting if they manage to do it well. But what about cross faction open world pvp? i would be even more interested in that. Getting imprisoned in the enemy faction and having a group of guildies pvp(or even pve) their way through to set me free would be a dream come true and an instant resub every month.

You would have loved the Bloodfin community in SWG.

Don't see that happening without completely destroying pve.  Maybe something like that could be done in Cryodill.

When I first read the title I though oh damn, now its a FFA because there aint enough players in all the realms, hopefully its just part of the crime system.

    It is, title is misleading.

If you steal or kill an NPC you get a bounty placed on your head and only then can you be attacked.  So it isn't real open world pvp only a partial system.

I hope it works out as the game needs some good things to happen to it.

A justice system does not equal open world PvP, it could just mean for Player versus NPC's. But at least this gives players something else to be disappointed about when it does not turn out the way they want.

Look forward to the future thread: "FFS they promised us open world PvP where is it the liars!!!!!"

And I wonder just what safeguards they have devised to prevent friends; groups; guilds from taking advantage of the bounties by rotating the killingcollecting aspect?

When I wrote up a very detailed bounty system for a game awhile ago, I proposed combating the above possibility by having the bounty being taken from the criminal's bank and some % of the collected reward monies going back into the game as money-sink too.

Hope the Devs have considered this and have a devious system to address possible abuse.

In the video they showed a penalty of a lot of gold that the player could not afford.  So it looks like you'll remain killable till you pay this fine.

I think that is what Cryodiil is meant for.

Yes I noticed the penalty, however, an option to 'Flee' was also there and if successful, the penalty would not seem to need be paid.

If however, the reward was the exact penalty amount and taken from the player, it would address what I wrote. If however, upon being killed, the criminal's penalty is merely erased, what has (s)he lost?  If the reward outweighs the penalty fines by a fair amount, they could stand to gain under the exact circumstances I outlined in my op.

To prevent possible abuse, criminals' 'risks' upon being killed have to be more (monetary and possibly lengthy debuffs or stat decreases) than the reward upon their heads.

I dont really see a benefit from murdering NPCs though, unless it gives xp for the Dark Brotherhood or something.

They weren't dropping gold or items as far as I could see and not putting up a good fight.

People don't need "motivation" to kill NPCs/be evil in games. People do need motivation to protect against such things, though. My fear is you'll see mindless killing everywhere and those that do it have millions of gold and don't care about a little 20K-100K bounty...chump change. Or you'll choose to flee and sorcs will just teleport away/nightblades will go invisible/Dragon Knights will root then run/Templars will knock them down and run. That is of course if they can't kill the guard 1 on 1. What about 10 players who are all red? 1 guard will do nothing and this will happen whether there is "motivation" or not.

If the incentive to seek red players is there, this could be good...but then again it'll be up to the players or ZOS will be making a pretty "on-rails" system to subvert these things.

Yeah I agree there should be a good risk/reward system and they hopefully look at angles of abuse before it even comes out or its just fluff, like killing chickens and if you do die then oh well you're back to a ordinary player.
