As the old saying goes., "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it"..  If a segment of players can effect the game world, such as dictating the outcome a city goes or who becomes ruler of that city, trust me it will only be a matter of time before players learn to use that as a grieving tool to effect other players enjoyment or actions..  Been there, done that..  Best advice I can offer to SOE devs that are in love with Storybricks.. ASSUME the worst will happen and build in safeguards to prevent it..  People love playing the spoiler, and if I can join a guild of spoilers and we go about the countryside manipulating the game world in a negative perverse way, how long do you think that will last before SOE takes action..  Especially if the guilds conduct chases players away?  It happen in SWG, and I know it will happen here as well, if they are not careful..

you can freely hop servers in EQN so if you don't like the way one is headed you can move to another. Think of the tram/fel split in UO except the grey moongate in EQN is between servers and not just rulesets.

That being said, players can't permanently alter landscapes and the like on their own as terrain heals itself over time if that's what you're worried about.

hmm. I don't remember if EQNext is going to allow free server hopping. It's a Landmark features though. The way Storybrick works might make it complicated. Do they copy your relation to NPC X over all the servers? What happen if on server A that character has a good relationship with Faction ABC, but on server B he hates Faction ABC? You finished the Rallying Call on server A, but it is still going on server B, Etc.

Has for manipulating the game world to "spoil it". SOE is well aware of these issues and they try to design the game in such a way that griefing attempts are not impacting others negatively. I'm not even sure if Storybricks is going to be "griefable". Most of the interactions with it are going to be "solo" (example: how merchant A see the player) and the the rest of the emergent AI is going to have clear set of objectives. You can't call someone a griefer because he cleaned an Orc camp and this caused Orcs to attack the nearest town. It's a gameplay features...

As far as I understand each player's character gets their own "brick" which interacts with the "bricks" attached to NPC's and monsters/creatures in the world. I doubt your brick will change from server to server as it is a part of your character (high elf nobility may have a brick that makes them hate you because you are a wood elf, etc). Different servers will (according to georgeson) be pretty different though because of the way emergent AI works. Say someone saves a town on server A from invading orcs and becomes friendly with the village but on server B the town isn't saved so the orcs now occupy the town as an orc stronghold or the town is gone all together.

The quote mentioning server hopping in Next was from last year's SOE Live but I forget exactly which video it came from.
