Servers are mostly filled with Czech, Poland and Russia players.
You are confusing an independently made mod for Fallout 2 with an MMORPG that would have had a setting, graphics and controls similar to Fallout 3. Except it was being developed by Masthead so it would have been largely non-functional.

Oh yeah, Masthead......... Earthrise.
There's one that should be on the list, but they released it in an "As-Is" state unfinished and incomplete so technically they can say it launched even though it wasn't ready.
How is World of Darkness not on this list ? The hype for this was huge, every one was stoked for this IP and than poof. With little information on why. Wasnt there even a sweet game video showed at E3???

It was such a BAD game that it really did not deserve any form of "honorable" mention. I played in the alpha and the game was far removed from what people would have wanted in a Stargate ip.
Not that great of a res of an old promo clip for UO2/UWO, but still, it gives a look if you aren't familiar. (When I watched the original, it was definitely higher res than this youtube clip.)
Originally posted by UO4ever Tabula Rasa was the first game to spring to mind when I saw the title. Enjoyable beta but there was never going to be enough content at release..
OMG, that was a killer game! I remember that one. Does anyone remember HUXLEY: THE Dystopia? That game was amazing, but it got cancelled pre launch, too.

I'm only going to be able to tell this story for so long, so I'm bringing it up every chance I get.
After Earthrise was "released", I played for a couple hours, until I got stuck in combat mode against a robot crab that warped out of the world. In combat mode, your options for what you could do were restricted so you really can't continue to do other things in the game if you're in combat mode. I asked in chat (technically yelled at people because the chat was a bit broken too) and finally learned that the solution was to run out in the ocean. Logging out and and logging back in didn't fix it but running out into the ocean did. If you happened to be in the middle of the land mass, stuck in combat you were totally SOL.
That, to me, is Masthead in a nutshell. That's what would have happened in the Fallout MMO. I would love to see a Fallout MMO, but I'm actually glad that Masthead never actually managed to release the game they were working on.

What about Gods and Heroes :-). I was really looking forward to that game just because of the setting. I participated in beta and quickly realized it needed help big time. Then they pulled the plug, came back two years later for another beta, participated in the beta again and realized right off the bat that it was just too late. Too many better games were already on the horizon. I don't recall this game ever releasing. Maybe it did. If so, it must have made about $10 lol.

That could have actually worked. With the books, it seems like the Otherland system was as much a character as the people. I don't know about the game systems they were planning, but the setting would have lent itself pretty well to an MMORPG.

The writer of this article seems to have forgotten that Middle Earth Online had a second coming.
Turbine picked it up, and it was still going to be a sandbox MMO with a lot of unique ideas, but no perma death.
It carried the title Middle Earth Online right up until 9 months before the game was to launch. Then Turbine announced a year long delay, a name change to Lord of the Rings Online, got rid of most of their veteran staff, and put a bunch of college kids on it to finish it.
They released one of the first, and most disappointing, WoW clones.

Yeah, close to a tragedy. I'd really love to play a sandbox in the LotR setting. I'm not really sure if it would work, but still ....
Originally posted by OoMpAlOmPaZ Anyone remember WISH? That game kicked ass and was a successor to UO imo. Jumpgate Evolution was also on my list of games to look forward to. Hero's Journey, Dragon Empires, Atriach, and Citizen Zero.
Yea, I had just gotten a beta invite to it a couple of days before it was shut down. Only got to play it for a few hours. Game looked really cool, but it was so laggy it was almost unplayable (well, when I played it at least).

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...
ANd for good reason...That game was a mess, couldn't even be salvaged as a lame shooter.
