Tabala Rasa ,Kingdoms of Amalur,Dark n Light, and that game by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment,i forget the name but i know was a scam by the owner to pocket a bunch of money whom also tried to run a Pyramid scheme as well.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Nope, not even close. LotRO is a completely separate endeavor started long after MEO was completely gone, with 100% different owners from start to finish and 0% crossover from MEO.
Prince of Dreams Emperor of Nightmares ----------------------------- All hail Odin, Allfather
I was really looking forward to making a Tremere Vampire.
Due to CCP's mismanagement of WOD I will not subscribe or support any of their products. I hope they sell White Wolf publishing before they ruin them also.

All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
I'm hoping a bit EQN will finally step in and fill the gap that is widening into an Abyss ... A game where you can interact with the world really and crafting is an enjoyable feature able to stand on its own that needs skill and strategy (as in Vanguard) and is not just a time/money sink side note that has a one button press while pretending it is complex because ... it just throws so many steps or resources at you (talk Wildstar, ArcheAge/etc).
I'm not even expecting ATitD complexity or something like Vanguard with the action point crafting game. But I really hope something will appear that is more than what EQ2 has.
Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ... Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2 Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation

Wish was horror technically, barely anyone had the hardware for it (death for a niche MMO with little funding and focus on crafting and not optics and fighting) and something with the network layer connecting the server blades being totally unfeasible if I recall correctly.

I'll never forget running from this Dodo and barely making it up the mountain to open my glider and fly away (because it was a DODO ... and mobs in DnL followed over zone borders) - just to be smashed against the mountain by some sudden upwind crushing my triumphant howl of escape lol.

The writer of this article seems to have forgotten that Middle Earth Online had a second coming.
Turbine picked it up, and it was still going to be a sandbox MMO with a lot of unique ideas, but no perma death.
It carried the title Middle Earth Online right up until 9 months before the game was to launch. Then Turbine announced a year long delay, a name change to Lord of the Rings Online, got rid of most of their veteran staff, and put a bunch of college kids on it to finish it.
They released one of the first, and most disappointing, WoW clones.
Yeah, close to a tragedy. I'd really love to play a sandbox in the LotR setting. I'm not really sure if it would work, but still ....
It did indeed work, I played the alpha. It just wasn't mainstream enough for them.

It's actually closer than you think.
Turbine bought the rights to Middle Earth Online and started a new project, but they were both named Middle Earth Online, and both were sandboxes. Turbine's MEO DID become LotRO at the last minute when they NGE'd it into a WOW clone 9 months before launch.

MEO would have been a total failure and most likely closed by now. It had some cool concepts, some of which like the music system, were brought forward. LotRO now is better than MEO ever could have been. Like the author said, much of what they wanted to do was too far ahead of its time and wouldn't have been done well.
Couldn't have done much worse than LotRO did. Biggest fantasy IP in the world and it never really took off and has been struggling for a good 4 years.
And I think you're very confused about the games, Turbine's MEO never had perma death, it was an almost entirely unrelated project to Sierra's MEO. And none of the features it had doomed it to failure.
And claiming LotRO is a good game is fairly silly. It's a WoW clone mindless quest grinder with almost no redeeming gameplay features. Only the art style, setting, and random bits like the music system help it have any identity at all.

That Viking one would be Midgard, the game Funcom was working on as Anarchy Online was released. I'll tell you exactly what happened: Anarchy Online was released as a horribly buggy, memory intensive piece of useless game and the entire Midgard team was shuttered as Funcom lost a ton of money. Development halted and Funcom focused their whole attentions to fixing the problems of AO and after that they picked up the Age of Conan IP and from that point, Midgard was just never going to happen.

Glad to hear that it's at least possible to make it work. Maybe some day someone else tries to make it happen ...

I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE particularly interested in that trio over the ones she listed.
Craft of Gods, maybe, though.

Hero's Journey
Was actually a MMO in development and then they just ended up selling the Hero Engine to everyone else.
Was looking forward to that for the longest time.
Wish is missing, Atriarch is, Hero's Journey.
