I get that its a sandbox. But from everything i've seen, the game looks like a mess, as if it doesn't know what direction it wants to take so it says ''lets just let them do everything and be anything''. But does it do any of them well, or all of them 'so so'?
It seems like it has every single feature i could dream of in a sandbox, but something tells me its not all as good as it seems.
I've also heard it's got some juicy pay-to-win features which is a big red flag.

On this very site they will be handing out beta keys, probably today. Trion said they would start on Tuesday the 12th.
It has persistent housing features, including house decoration, that are similar in shape and scope to SWG. Also has very usefull crafting system, probably one of the first MMO's in years where crafted gear is superior to gear looted from even the hardest raid bosses, in every way, shape and form.
On the other hand, If you live in UK you better hope they introduce servers located in UK, since game has no ability que, which means that your latency is added to your GCD. I.e with GCD of 1 second, and 100ms latency, your effective GCD will be 1.1 seconds. However, if you are not interested in solo/group PVP aspect of the game, then you should definately check it out.
I've also heard that Sweden has nothing but hot chicks, I too was misinformed.
If you need someone to sell you a game via a public forum, then maybe the game isn't for you.
why would anyone want to sell a game to you? stay away, no one cares
to OP,
Speaking as a PreCu player from Chilastra I am going so say try out their Beta or wait for it to release since it is a f2p game.
I played for a good day and though unique, it is nothing like a Galaxy Far Far Away. The setting can be beautiful at times if your into that Asian type mmo feel, but the mechanics play more like what SWG NGE wanted to achieve, but nothing like SWG PreCu unless you think housing and wandering aimlessly was what your SWG PreCU was all about.
right aa is a sandbox..
People are so lost here..
check out the beta and see for yourself i guess..
Free tip: your new SWG is coming tho.. might wanne check repopulation and back that up
there is a reason they are selling their beta for the third time now.
real companies sell games, not betas.
"believe me, mike.. i calculated the odds of this working against the odds that i was doing something incredibly stupid and i did it anyway!"
I ll doubt anyone will ever rehash what PRE CU SWG had to offer to the shlightest ever. It was the golden age of MMORPG's and SWG PRE CU was the best part of it.
Even if Koster makes a MMORPG i ll doubt it will come close. But from what the market of mediocrity has to offer nowadays Archage could be a good choice for a SWG vet.

Do some research, watch some YouTube videos. Why should other people need to make the decision for you? It will be free to play, so try it out when it is released. Decide then if it is worth it to you.
The primary aim of "real companies" is to provide some goods/services for profit. XLGames are simply doing what real companies do.
You seem to be implying that they're selling the same beta 3 times to the same audience ? If that were true, I think the problem is with the buyers, not the seller, lol
As a pre-CU SWG vet myself, I just can't sell you that game as a sandbox. It really is a themepark with some sandox elements, such as skilltree-based classes, non-instanced housing (on pre-defined, limited lots for paying customers), open-ended PVP (its RvR really, but you can attack your own faction) and a crime system (attacking your own faction or stealing from your own faction, etc.).
There are so many limitating features, for example : Labour Points, limitating how much you can craft per hour/day and gating how much you can loot; artifical block on talking to the opposing faction; about 12 different types of currencies; one global worldwide market; no open-world harvesting (or very little.. most of it is grown in your farm.. on limited-availability plots).
I was excited at first to get into an AAA sandbox medieval fantasy-type MMORPG... but ArcheAge just isn't that. Still fun to play meanwhile, but it isn't that, and it isn't anything like pre-CU SWG. Sorry.
Dear OP,
if you couldn't be arsed to sacrifice 2 minutes of your precious, sanctified time to read up on the most easy to obtain information (being a sandbox "veteran" and all).... why should anyone bother to sacrifice their time to make up for your lazyness? More than writing these two sentences?

No offense, but maybe to you it wasn't the best mmorpg, to others, it could have been, bugs and all.
See comments in green.
Absolutely right. That's gonna sound pretty obvious, but not every game is for everyone.
What's undeniable though about SWG is that no game since then has packed the same features, and that many of those features, at the time, were original and new on the nascent MMO scene and even gaming scene at large.
It is also true that SWG was released too early with many bugs/placeholders/missing features and didn't deliver on the promise/hype it built. It really fucked Raph Koster's careeer, too. Shame on SOE for how they handle it all, from the beginning to the end.
Let's see if Smed makes up for that in H1Z1...
I agree. I still have my SWG beta 2 and beta 3 disks and the game was really a train wreck at release no matter how much it is glazed over now. The database was a bag of worms, items and entire bank accounts would go poof. The open world housing was poorly thought out and soon looked like Detroit with al the abandoned houses. Professions were unbalanced and some of which were never finished.
Quite frankly the game was pretty boring and once I had cornered the weaponsmith trade on my server and grew bored of the prospecting game I moved on. The deal sealer for me was the abortion they made of the jedi class. grinding up a single profession was like having a root canal , whoever thought grinding up a dozen or more just to enable your toon to go permadeath must have had brain damage. I hope they got out of the MMO field and are now cleaning toilets at the bus station
Thank god this game is nothing like SWG for the most part, Koster had great plans but in execution it just was not fun at all in my opinion. Part of that was Koster's fault, the majority was SOE's. AA has some warts and blemishes but SWG was born with terminal cancer

I'd say it's just the opposite, a sandbox with themepark elements tacked on to make GuildWars players comfortable. The quest chains, the dungeons, and the quick process of getting to 50 are clearly not where they put the investment.
The massive farming, transportation, construction, and naval content are where the dollars went.
Making it take longer to do things doesn't make it not a sandbox.
As for open world harvesting, my character harevested all the ingredients for a clipper in beta off-farm. Are you forgetting you can plant pretty much anywhere as long as you are willing to risk theft?
There's no accounting for taste, sounds like it's just not for you. It's clearly more sandboxy than 95% of the other AAA MMO's out there though.
