CB4 Question

GrandpaDJGrandpaDJ Member UncommonPosts: 132

I messed around with this in CB2 but was turned off by the vanilla questing grind. After reading a bunch of posts I realized that changes down the road. So, a few questions:

1. With just the beta invite, can I do any of the cool stuff like housing and farming? Seems silly not to give everyone a sneak peak, but silly things happen all the time.

2. With a sub, are cash shop purchases needed to be competitive? I expect probably, but I would hope not.

3. Have they finally fixed the 'not being able to invert the mouse' issue?

Thanks In Advance!

I can also throw in a question, got the mail and instruction to download, I didn't get a key in the mail just you have been invited.

So I just download the game and press play when the cb4 starts?

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

1: With just a beta invite from Trion or a key you found on the webz you do not have patron status.
That means you are listed as a free to play player and cannot place a farm or house down.

2: nope the best gear is crafted and always will be

3: invert mouse is comming no date is known, but its something Trion is implementing soon.

With the beta key you can not own a farm or house.

with that said you can farm on any public farm.    you can illegally farm anywhere in the world. or you can have a friend or guild mate open there farm to you and allow you to use there's

That's disappointing. So, the beta sneak peak only lets you into the vanilla quest grind? Bleh. Not sure I care enough to fight with my mouse to do the same thing I've done in countless other MMOs.

    Thanks for the responses though!

Great points! I wish I could experience some of the big "selling points" of the game, but it might be fun to check out the other things too.

Will we get labor points for the beta invite, or just the founders get labor points ?

If you played in a previous beta you will start with the amount of labor points you had when it ended. if its your first beta you will start at 0 and get 5 lp every 5 mins while your logged in.

    assuming your not patron

    lp= labor poins

Join a guild.  There isn't many mmo's that i would play without my gaming community.

The leveling is pretty fast and painless for me at least.  Yea the quest kinda suck but a lot of them give you things that are of upmost importance to you in the 5-20 range of them like a glider, a scare crow, and teaching you how to craft and do trade runs.

You earn labor points.  Everyone earns labor points.  Patrons earn labor points at a higher rate than F2P.  Think of labor points as in-game gold... because the reality is, it's used that way.  So as such, spend it wisely.  In CBT3 I had zero issues with labor point generation and I did craft and I did open coin purses and I did open up quest rewards.  You're not going to be able to craft only the entire time.  Even patrons won't be able to.  It's designed that way for a reason.  You can either learn to play within this restriction, like you learn to play within restrictions of other games, or you don't.  Your experience will totally be up to you.  Spend all your labor at once, you won't have any for a while.  Spend it wisely and you will always have some to spend.

And you can regen some LP by laying on a bed at an inn for a while.

I have not done this myself as I had no need, but have seen it posted here and on the AA forums. It sounds like a once per day thing you can do to regen a limited amount of LP. And all you need to do is lay down on a bed inside the inn (use the interactive) while you go do laundry or something. No need to talk to the innkeeper.

I'll try it when I get home and post if there is something different to do.

The game was originally designed with a monthly sub in mind. because farms and houses exist in the open world there is really no way to get around having these restricted from completely free accounts lest all the land would be claimed by people creating free account after free account. The unfortunate but necessary result is that you kinda have two different games on offer. The free game which includes everything except farming and housing and the pay game which gives you everything. If the farming and housing is the really interesting thing for you then you simply have to view it as a pay for game.  But, the free game includes a whole lot of game, including owning a ship, pvp, dungeons, treasure hunting, mining, mob farming, sieges, pirating/pirate hunting and so on. You can still do things like crafting and trade pack running with the help of guild mates that own land. And did I mention ships, oh yes I did. I really cannot emphasize enough how important ships and over seas trade pack security is. As a free player you will be an absolutely essential part of that process. Safety in the open ocean is less about having a big ship and more about having a big and competent crew.

I haven't seen a need to buy much from the marketplace. I don't doubt that some will feel a need to buy a labor potion every 12 hours to maximize their farming but I have had really no problem living without any labor pots at all on Beta or Alpha.

We have a couple of free players in our guild and they have been getting along just fine. My suggestion for free players would be this, first find a good guild that works together on things. Second, concentrate your labor on mining, this will give you something to offer the farmers as they will be spending their labor on farming, yet they will still need stone and iron for building. Third, build a ship and become an expert sailor. If you are not bound to the land, why not live on the ocean? An expert seafarer with a ready boat is a huge resource to a growing guild.

    Have fun.

    All die, so die well.
