or the game will rot into obscurity. Crafters will quit and griefers will tire of each other leaving too few players. Open world full loot PvP is naturally antagonistic to a sophisticated economy in this way.

Just get some buddies together and make your own.
Note to the player: it's a PVP game
Sir, you do realize this is a truck?
Yes, but I want a hatchback. Take it in the back and do whatever you do to make it a hatchback.
But, it's a truck, we can't just turn it into a hatchback.
Sure you can, just chop off the end and put a hatch on the back.
Sir, but, but ... you have to understand this truck has a faulty engine and no steering wheel. If you don't fix the engine and add a steering wheel it will crash!
*blank stare*
Darkfall seems to be trucking along just fine without a steering wheel, faulty engine and all.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
it is sand box game based on players interactions, one world/universe something different , if dislike it ,it is not game for you ,I am sorry.
Check Repopulation ,they ll' have separated pvp & pve server, but I prefer one world/universe game ,I dislike separated servers it is past for me & reason why I am lost interest for Repopulation but ,if I dislike it not mean it is bad game(should be great game, brw) maybe it ll' be game for you.
I am not a PvP player but I want to see this game develop as it was intended to, by the people making it. I really don't understand why PvE players have to come in and demand that an open world PvP game be castrated and turned into your basic theme box type of game.
Why not give this game a chance as it stands, and see if you can fit your game play style into this game? I am really getting tired of players asking for what they want and leaving others out in the cold.
If you don't like it, go play something else. Best of luck to the Devs on this game, because I like what I see, even if it may not be a game I would play.

Here is the thing ... if these PvE players do not get a PvE server they are going to do exactly what you are suggesting they do. They will go play something else. So how does it hurt the PvP player to let them have their PvE server thereby increasing the company's revenue and ensuring its overall success. It's not like they are impacting the PvP servers. You wont even see these PvE players. It would be like they don't even exist, much as if the game had been released without a PvE server. So why not let them attempt a request for PvE servers, even if it is presented as a demand. How does that affect you in any way? Designers should be elated that players are taking enough interest in their game to the extent that they are requesting modification in order to play it. A worst case scenario is players not giving a dam and ignoring the game to oblivion.
Well guess what I found on the forums?
5. I want to host a PvE only server, is that possible?
Not yet, but you will be able to protect your server with a password or kick users that are not following your PvE only rules. On later stages of development we plan to implement “NO PvP” option.
It looks like you will be able to create personal servers where you can play by your rules and have the option of booting players if they don't abide them. And a no PvP option at a later date.
I don't think you can ask for more than that.

It may be that conventional wisdom dictates that a game of this nature cannot thrive -- it can only survive on life support and the desperate need to make more cash from a dwindling playerbase.
Though a game the hits all the right notes may very well be able to attract the crowd that wants only PvP; it's just a shame that the majority of said people only enjoy the ganking aspects and not the challenging prospects. In short, the community is what destroys a game, even if they do most things flawlessly.
That said, Ultima Online was FFA PvP with full loot, and it did well for a while. They just wanted to expand their horizons instead of falling into eventual obscurity and made it so each world had a PvP version and a non-pvp world.
If they have the money to try for something that many deem impossible, then good luck to them. Perhaps it will breed a new type of game as a result and push the genre forward in some ways.
With the costs of these types of games, it may be prudent for them to have a back up plan just in case. Though ability to have players make their own servers and kick people out of it is a good first step, if what I'm reading is the truth.
This should probably be sticked. I certainaly hope the OP is paying attention and is not doing a drive by.

Kyleran, you know better than that. For many, if not most, PvE players it has nothing to do with lacking toughness, or resilience, or accepting game play elements. This is a misconception that many PvP players have about PvE players. Is it really your opinion that players behind a computer screen fear getting their pixels killed or ganked? I know you can't possibly believe that. What PvE players seek is comfort and leisure in their games without provocation, confrontation, hectic twitch game mechanics and trash talking immature behavior. It is simply a different preference in game play perhaps driven behind predisposed real life personality. Consideration goes a long way sometimes. Though it appears to be in short supply nowadays.
Same...
Btw, not sure why the PvP'er gets so worked up over the PvE server suggestion. No one's forcing them to play there, they would still have the same option as now.
Nope, not in it's current form. Without any link to prove it, it's worthless.
Not that I have any reason to lie about it but you are right I guess.
Hope this works.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
That sound you hear is the universal and synchronized groan of PvPers.
Say hello to full PvE servers and an empty PvP server.
I would never buy a truck w/o a steering wheel to begin with.
Bingo!
And neither would the vast majority of people.
I knew someone would eventually chime in and bring the point home.
/end thread.
EVE has 500K subs. Pretty sure there is no actual evidence that "Niche game without PVE only server" = "Truck without a steering wheel".
Would it surprise you to know that I'm not a PVP focused player? In fact I'd say over 80% of my game time is devoted to PVE activities, yet throughout the years I've regularly (not always) played PVP centric MMO's and on PVP servers. EVE is my all time favorite MMORPG, closely followed by DAOC (Mordred FFA PVP server), Lineage 1 and 2 and Shadowbane.
I play games for conflict, I play them for challenge, it warms my heart to evade the gankers and reach level 50 or whatever despite their best efforts to stop me. Heck, sometimes I get a zerg of my friends together and go roll them. (just not often)
Yes, it is my opinion that many people "fear" getting inconvenienced, and perhaps their desire for comfort and leisure needs to be disrupted a bit, so they can experience a more interesting (or at least more exciting) style of game play.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not into gankfests (probably why though tempted I haven't tried DF) I like things a bit more controlled such as EVE and DAOC provide.
I'm not sure I'm going to play this game, depends how it all pans out, if I feel I can control my risk, I'll give it a go, if I don't, I'll pass.
But what I won't do is demand the developers make special PVE only rules server, if I decide to play on it, I am willing to accept the PVP as it is, (doing it with AA right now) and here's the important part, since I don't think I'm particularly special, if I can do this, so can everyone else.
Learn to adapt to the conditions, don't try to change the conditions to please you, makes a person stronger for it.
Consideration? Works both ways, I'm considerate of the fact the game is developed in a certain manner, and it's up to me to play it, not ask for it to be changed to my personal preferences.

Exactly, all the childishness is unnecessary.
There is no harm in allowing, or being considerate, of people making requests, or baseless demands for that matter. Requests, and baseless demands, comes from all ends of the spectrum and they are either approved or denied. You need not fear, or be antagonistic, against others making requests and/or demands. The need or desire to silence others is borne out of fear and insecurity and is neither warranted nor necessary.
