    Hmm...

    mind = blown

    You have a point.

    THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE?!

GW2 is the ONLY MMO where I think my password might have been "guessed". And I have only used that password for GW2. It was a 12 digit password made up of completely random upper and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation signs.

What happened half an year ago, I got bombarded with emails from GW2 to authorise access from a new location even though I haven't played the game at all during that period. My account didn't get hacked but someone had my correct password. I could definitely confirm that I didn't have any viruses/spyware on my computer as I scanned it with 2-3 different antiviruses. I have never had this happened for other games.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

I've been hacked twice, and I don't even play it at all anymore. I stopped playing not very long after it was released, just wasn't my cuppa tea, and I get hacked like 2 years later after not logging in at all. few months later, hacked again(after only logging in to recover the account the previous time)

Between this I've been playing plenty of other games, even entering in credit card information, with no viruses found with two(and three at one time) anti-viruses, and no I was not phished.

I tend to use fairly different passwords for each game, and this one was actually 100% unique both times. I can't really begin to explain how I was hacked either time.

I can't begin to fathom how or why either one was hacked in any way. Over the years I've had found only a single spyware, which was quickly removed after downloading.

    reasons for you being hacked,

used the same e-mail and pass as sony before that security break they had, or any other game site(aeria was adimited one times somoen break in they login server and download all login info so they send mail to everyone to make new passwords to prevent loss)

bought gold from a chinese site,

visited a phising site and was stupid enough to give your info there

shared your account info with someone else

and if you don't even have a anti-virus on your machine, for a trojan be inside your PC, to steal all info I would be more worried about something else and not my game account

so yeah op its your fault, 9 of 10 times its the user fault, plus on bright side unless they deleted your char you can get all gears back pretty fast, and serious don't even know waht you can lose if anyone really did hack you save for gold you have in hands. and you would be the first one to even say he was hacked on GW2

FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

One advice to every one in this game: I've NEVER been hacked in any other games i played, and i'm a veteran player of mmo's.

In this game, i got hacked not ONCE but TWICE.

At the first time, support restored my itens and gold, but, at the second time that i got hacked, i got this response:

"As previously stated, we cannot perform a second restoration. The reason is because it will negative impact the economy of the game."

Now, i payed for the game, played the game, and now i have to quit the game because of the lack of security that this company offers to custommers.

How can i still playing this game, work to get money and itens again and be hacked for the third time ina few weeks?

The funny thing is that the company can't even defend itself and players from hacks, but is careful about the "impact in the economy of the game".

Thanks Arenanet, the WORST custommers service that i ever saw.

Did you have ip check / email verification enabled?

It's simply not possible for someone to hack you with this enabled unless they hacked your email too.

Excactly. I never got hacked in any game, nor in Gw2. However I'm using Safe in Cloud to hold very compley passwords and whenever possible or available, various authenticators.

I"ve been playing mmos for like 12 years, played AoC, Lotro, Wow, Rift, Warhammer, and A LOT of other games, actually playing ESO and it NEVER happened to me. I've NEVER been hacked before.

And to the other "smart" guys that enter in a post to say what them "suppose": No, i never bought gold online.

Do you look up porn? Do you go on sites that are not heavily guarded by security, IE this site, then you were hacked because of you did not protect yourself enough.

I'll chalk this up to you refusing to admit that you might have downloaded something that caused your computer to be hacked, thus making this entire situation your fault, inadvertently or otherwise.

I'm so glad financial institutions don't take a similar stance as you... sorry dude, it's your fault your identity was stolen.  Chock it up to lesson learned.  Oh btw, you owe us an overdraft fee.  Our collectors will be calling you shortly.

There are different policies when you're talking about real money and fake video game gold. If you can't tell the difference, that's your problem.

Not to mention many financial institutions really don't care if you had your identity stolen. It's an absolute nightmare for most people!

There's a reason services like Lifelock exist, and it's not because you just tell the bank "I didn't sign up for that credit card" and they take care of it for you and forget about the bill.

For something like a simple fraudulent charge? Yes they will generally credit you the funds and cancel the card. But even then, if it keeps happening they aren't going to continue being so easy about it.

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

If you get your bank details hacked, banks are very helpful, but they will ask you questions to determine the source of the issue - have the same problem and it turns about to be client related then you got problems.

Anet did not get hacked, OP did, and if if happened twice then there's something fundementally wrong with your client security, either a weakness (malicious or not) or you are visiting suspect sites, or both. You need to take responsibility for your own pc. Op I would do a deep virus scan using a pro tool, make sure all your windows and firewall updates are installed, and watch what sites you visit.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

I have a unique e-mail and password combination. I don't use the same e-mail and password combination or anything even remotely resembling that password) all over the internet on all sorts of shady forums. I use a strong 20+ character password. I've never been hacked in GW2.

If you followed security recommendations you probably wouldn't have been hacked, not even once, let alone twice.

Nothing can protect the ignorant except maybe getting a clue and taking your own account security, which is your responsability BTW, a lot more seriously.

Blaming others for their own mistakes is nature to some, pathethic to others.
