Hello, I am a former World of warcraft, Aion, Guild Wars 1 and 2 player.
I would like to enjoy Landmark but there are some things that I'd like to ask before buying.
1) What's the point of the game? I mean, sure you can build things, destroy other things, then what? I would like to understand why people play this game. What are the main reasons that make you log into the game and play? Where is the fun?
2) Is the world of Landmark different from the world of EQ next? Are they 2 completely different worlds? Which means that when EQN is out, will you quit Landmark and its world completely and go play in a different world? Does this not upset you?
3) I have heard you can build and destroy stuff, and that the changes are permanent (in Landmark and in the future EQN, right?), but does this not expose the world to the risk of being ruined / sabotaged by people who don't like it or simply by people who like to mess things up (there are always people like this)? For example I have seen you can destroy trees of the size of a wagon with a tiny axe in about 30 seconds. Then what? Will that tree ever grow up again? Does the world have some kind of "healing" capabilities, or you can dig a hole to the center of the Earth, and that's it, it's there forever?
Let's talk about this please, thank you very much.

Landmark is currently in Alpha. Currently I would say only those who love building games or those who love building games or people like myself who love what EQN promises and want to be part of the design process play the game.
The fun is like in any game exactly where you go looking for it. People who go in all bitter or with unrealistic expectations or without knowledge about what Landmark is will probably throw hissy fits and start posting 'I hate Sony and EQN posts' but the rest of us can simply enjoy what is there.
Totally different although there is a very direct link. Landmark is basically the toolset that the developers are using to make EQN. Landmark is completely open to idea's in terms of building and gameplay but EQN will be strictly EQN related.
Things created in Landmark that do not fit in the EQN lore will not be added but Landmark will have everything.
I will probably play EQN more as it is my type of game and I have found out that I am not a great builder but I don't see why the games are exclusive or why the idea of having both out at the same time would be upsetting.
There are regenerative systems in place. For instance, combat has just been introduced to Landmark. The entire plot of PvP match is destructible but once the game is over the map resets. Similar systems are there throughout the game. The open world in Landmark regenerates eventually (I think it will regenerate within 15 mins) and in EQN there will probably be even more systems in place to control how destruction works.
One things SOE have made very clear, you will never be forced into PvP or be open to PvP unless you want too. For instance your own claim can be PvP enabled or disabled. Don't want your stuff destroyed or to be attacked don't turn it on on your claim and don't visit others that have it turned on.
Your best bet is to check out the Landmark forums , just do a search for them.

Did you try any of the following: -
Contact other players in game on other islands.
Follow the in game tutorial, specifically the new starter guide.
Follow the in game tutorial, specifically the resources guide.
Post something on the forums for help.
Understand the process and requirements from YOU for making the Alpha and Beta work.
Not to be horrible but you are best waiting for full release because you come across as someone not suited to being part of this part of the process.

The first part of the tutorial was to collect 300 pieces of copper, and 1 piece of wood, I found the wood right away, the copper no where to be found, after 2 hours of searching for copper I called it quits. I liked the environment, the isles, etc but what happened to the copper, I tried in game chat, there is no way to contact anyone from support in game, so maybe I was just unlucky.

You have to make sure you go to one of the Tier 1 islands. Plenty of copper there everywhere. Redish gold patches on the ground.
It takes less than a minute to mine 300 copper.
Hmm I wonder if you rolled on something other than a tier 1 island. Tier 1 has all the copper you could possibly want but the higher tiers probably don't have any at all these days. Also, I agree with you that there is no in-game support and often I am the only person on my island.
Definitely not any kind of a traditional mmo in this state, but it's pretty fun for builders, gatherers, crafters and explorers.
The main draw will be when players can place and add functionality to mobs as part of their claim build. Then you have the potential for massive amounts of content to find that is as unique as each player wants it to be.
At it's current state of 9 servers (I'll have to check that), 50 islands per server and, say, 200 claims (more could fit) that is 90,000 claims. SoE estimated about 20% of players in Landmark were builders or creators while the other 80% were consumers. That's 18,000 claims spread out with possible content that is playable.
In Landmark there are no travel or build limitations between servers or islands so there could be a huge amount of content to play.
That's why I think Landmark will be relevant post EQN. Not to mention they will use Landmark for tool testing and implementation past EQN...
To be honest anyone who looks at the game in it's current state has to understand where it is in the design process and needs to actively follow their video updates and forums updates. If not then people are doing it an injustice but commenting about it as if it were a finished product and not a work in progress.
The game is still mid development so people should not be seeing this as a game in a fully playable state but in a constant state of introducing core mechanics, progressive iteration of existing mechanics and bug testing and player experiences.
The fact that many people who understand all this also enjoy playing the game on a daily basis is just icing on the cake.
