Too many rude players

The last time I played this game I was asking for talent build advice for my Jedi Sage and all I got were mostly no comments and a guy telling me to shut up...

And this sort of thing is why I don't play this game anymore...

I don't want to play a game full of nasty people.

Though I liked the game in general but the community ruins the game, now I see why everyone wished this was Knights of the Old Republic 3 instead of being an MMO. :/

My server, The Harbinger, is not too bad in that respect.  Can't say there are no jackasses on the server, but it's not too bad.

Well, the "no comments" part I can understand. Back when I was still playing CoH, after a while when you asked a question about build advice some of the answers would suggest that you "go look it up online" as other players had already posted build data...somewhere out there. On ocasion though there would still be a few people who had a little time to give basic advice or point you to one of those sites if you happened to ask in the right zone or on the right channel.

As for the prick telling you to "shut up", well that's what the /ignore function was for. I don't know about SWTOR because I quit that back in beta, but the ignore list always worked pretty well in CoH. When you see someone spouting hate or stupidity, their silence can be worth more than money.

I've got a feevah, and the only prescription... is more cowbell.

    Um...
1 guy telling you to shut up makes up for "game full of nasty people"?
"everyone wished this was Knights of the Old Republic 3 instead of being an MMO" - everyone?
and "community ruins the game" really?

Are you sure the issue is not on your end? You seem to have some great habit for gross generalizations and overblowing...

^Idd. On my server The Progenitor the community is pretty decent, sure there are some bitches on general on the fleet but overall NOT as the OP claims.

If we gonna talk about a rude and offensive community AA is the right game.

"And this sort of thing is why I don't play this game anymore..."

This is a pretty lame reason to not play a game, heck if you get upset by this is there any mmo you can play at all?

If you want a game with a good community, play Final Fantasy 14. I recently started playing, and everyone is nice and usually helpful. The game works by having veterans grouping with newbies for a lot of the leveling dungeons, and everyone understands if the new players are bad. Someone will usually explain what to do. There will always be that odd "elite" player that gets pissed of at any little mistake, but you have to expect that in online games.

general chat channels are usually just full of garbage no matter what game you play.

not even sure why you'd bother to ask such a thing there when there are class forums on the official site dedicated to it.

    it's much easier

anyway i find the playerbase to be quite friendly and i'm on a server that's got a pretty bad rep (tofn)

I had fun once, it was terrible.

I have found much worse on other titles. This isn't to bad compared to games like Tera which is horrid. Probably the best thing to do is of course get into a guild. Guilds always have a couple asshats, but usually you accept them more easily. :)

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

There are a minority of areshats in general chat in almost every game I have played.  Unfortunately they usually make enough noise and generally cause enough grief to appear a much larger group than they really are.

In general the community's pretty decent. Occasionally you get a douchebag or two on the fleet, but no moreso than you'd get on WoW in Orgrimmar, Stormwind, or whatever city happens to be the most populated hub of that expansion.

On every MMO these days you get someone who believes themselves to be very clever by answering with "Google it" or "Youtube it" whenever they see someone asking a question. Jerks will be jerks, no matter what game you're playing. (Unless it's single player. :P)

I have always felt that SWTOR actually has a pretty good community when compared to other mmos. Sure there are some assholes but overall it is good. I can still watch all of the cut scenes in a FP and get little to no complaints from other pug members.

If I am in a game and people in whatever chat act like arsehats....Ignore/Block...tis yer best friend...tis why I like Path of Exiles chat options...I turn it totally off and I have a single player game.

You are offended by 1 player telling you to shut up?

Tomb of Freedon Nadd, that's the server I've been playing on but how can you say the playerbase is friendly when you say you play on a server that's not very pleasant?

i said that the server has a bad rep(reputation)  so if the players there are supposed to be the bad apples then the rest of the servers must be packed with saints.

As someone on page 1 said, Harbinger is pretty decent. It is also the easiest to troll. If you really want to have some fun, go to the fleet and type in general "Disney just confirmed Miley Cyrus as Jaina Solo in Episode VII". The reactions are.... legendary. But seriously, it's a fun server with a lot of good people.

Try the Ebon Hawk.  It's the RP server for East Coast.  Very populated and for the most part, friendly players.

There are always some jerks in an online game and they tend to be loud and write more than 20 regular people each.

Sadly do F2P games seems to get more of them for some reason then P2P and B2P. Maybe because they tend to get banned so it is expensive unless they go F2P, maybe it is another reason.

But use your ignore list on the worst offenders, that is the only advice I can give you.

  • AzureProwerAzurePrower Member UncommonPosts: 1,550

When I played. SWTOR had a great community.

Upon announcing it going free to play. That's when I jumped ship. Because I know how F2P communities are.

I've experienced this as well...but I've also chatted with some very helpful people . Sometimes...with all these games...you have spots of the "full moon effect" where everyone on chat seems like a right crazy prick. Outside of these moments there are still going to be the occasional assholes with bells on ..chiming in with their useless  shit-stained comments formed from the few words in their limited vocabulary.(how much can you truly teach an anus anyway..right?)

You just have to take a breath and ignore them.

Of course if you don't like the game enough to do that..that's understandable.

  • ArchlyteArchlyte Member RarePosts: 1,405

You can afford to be an asshole in SWTOR so people do it. You don't need large numbers of people to do most of the content, so if you have 30 people in the guild you can be a prick to the rest. I rememeber a time when I was playing when I realized halfway into a FP that a troll my guildies hated had joined our group. On voice I said "Hey that's such and such who said this to Guild Officer." The rest of the guildies just said, ah forget it we need him to finish this.

There is no serious economy, nor is there crafter dependence of any scale so you don't need to have friends in that respect.

You also don't have open world PvP on any scale so you can be a dick to whomever because you don't have to have them join up with you, and you can't shit talk the other faction so it all occurs in friendly territory.

The actions you take in the game have the significance and permanence of a popsicle in summer, so there is no sense of anything but a nihilistic existence concerning your life in the game. So, some people find their fun in being torturous given that there is no meaning to the game world itself: it's a crude and unchanging façade.

Thus, there is plenty of reason to be an asshat in SWTOR if you are entertained by such things.

There are jerks in any mmo. I'm on a RP server which seems to be better but of course it's not perfect. No mmo is. You want idiots go try Tera, where the F bomb isn't blocked. Love the game but can only put up with so much BS before I stop playing.

One of the best communities I've found is LotRO.  For the most part the players pounce on any jerks.

You're not going to find a perfect community so find the ignore/block and party on.

    Pretty much.

And trolls and douchebags would get bored very quickly if everyone did that. Unfortunately there are many who take the bait and get into hours long yelling contests with them, and keep them entertained.

Ain't most MMO's nowadays F2P anyway? There isn't that many P2P MMO's left, WoW still does P2P but that game is gradually declining all the time now since it's old and out-dated.

I know rightttt.... AA makes the Wow community look good........ Now you wanna talk about rude people step foot into that game.......

I turned the chat off but I can betcha if I turned it back on the first thing I would see would be a homophobic, racial, or BR comment...... And what's funny is people always try and say it's young kids, BS half these people are probably grown adults in there mid twenties and thirties.......
