I and a few others from mmorpg.com been saying this title for the last 10 years would had made a great sandbox mmorpg! A bunch of us old posters from this forum came up with brilliant idea's, however apparently the thread has been lost in www.mmorpg.com thread of abyss. Anyways, I will keep digging for the ole thread.
Something like Blade Runner or Almost Human seems like a fun setting to play in indeed.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
Cyberpunk, although they have this http://cyberpunk.net/. I loved the old Cyberpunk 2020 PnP back in the day and a true player driven mmorpg of the IP would fit very well.
Amazing to me no one has tapped this gem in modern gaming for much of anything...an MMO would be amazing (If it was done AAA style and given the care it deserves)
You want to play in one of the story heaviest settings minus the story? Because that's what you generally get with "true" sandboxes" where everything is "player driven".
And GoT could be player driven as well. Simply re-create the game world of Westoros and let players battle out for control of the territories, with the ability to create alliances. Have a system in play where one becomes King and controls King's Landing, etc.
Seems pretty intuitive to me. It's not the story line that would draw me to that game. It's the faithful recreation of a massive, brutal world.
If I only get one I would choose Traveller. The game would have to be able to have procedurally generated worlds and populations, but with the economic features as well as space combat and all that. Would be awesome. Especially if you could do speculative trading like in the PnP rules.
Can you die during character gen in teh MMO as well?
I throw my 2 cents in for Mad Max/ Road Warrior IP
Hell yeah you can die in character creation
And with that new movie coming out you may fish your wish, Tom Hardy looks to be an awesome Max.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures
Diablo 2 style Star Wars Hack n Slash game... but with so much more depth, e.g., world housing, player cities, etc.

Masters of the Universe
Agreed. But why a sandbox MMO? Just a hack-n-slash online ARPG will be great. I don't see why a hack-n-slash game needs world housing, or player cities.

Traveller? Is that a book or movie or?
Traveller is probably the most popular PnP science fiction setting.
I throw my vote in for Dune. There is so much lore that could be incorporated and still have an endless amount of opportunities for new stuff.

Nintendo would print their own money for at least a decade.....
This. I knew I was forgetting an IP to put down on my list for this post. I would love a real 3d pokemon mmo.

I play the soundtrack when I play.
Yes.
Slightly OT: Do you prefer the theatrical or Director cut?

On top of that.
I am starting to think the younger generation doesn't even know what Dune is or all about. What a shame this is.

Dune would be awesome. What Timeframe would you use?
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
