It has always been the same IP for me,Jason and the Argonauts was a brilliant movie for it`s time. That movie could easily be put into a MMORPG and have tons of cool ideas in it.Giant CrabséBirds to giant Stone Golems filled with lava, tons of treasures to be found, the Golden Fleece which can revive and heal, the deadly Hydra and Dragons and Skeletons that rise from the earth as Dragon`s teeth are tossed onto the ground.
Ships and water and the giant Cyclops and Greek gods, yep all there,it would make a great game but of course needs a quality developer to pull it off.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Diablo 2 style Star Wars Hack n Slash game... but with so much more depth, e.g., world housing, player cities, etc.
or
Masters of the Universe
Agreed. But why a sandbox MMO? Just a hack-n-slash online ARPG will be great. I don't see why a hack-n-slash game needs world housing, or player cities.
Well, we were talking about our individual dream games.
I really enjoyed the combat and randomized item loot of Diablo 2.
I really enjoyed the IP, freedom, and openness of Star Wars Galaxies.
Combining them both would be my ultimate dream game.
My dream sandbox has always been the Elder Scrolls. I'd love to have the whole of Tamriel explorable for me and 9 other friends. It'd have the lore take center stage, where you can choose which Gods you worship and receive their blessings. Where you can join factions and compete against other players for the ownership of land. Where you can challenge Daedric princes in their realms through raids and instances.
Other than that, a 4th Age Lord of the Rings or maybe Forgotten Realms.
The overall Look and feel from 'Darkfall: Unholy Wars'; public group system from Warhammer online, the system was a smidgeon better than Rift's version imo; player housing, resource system, beastmaster system, '250 point system' and crafting from Star Wars Galaxies; the dynamism from the awesome Rift.
I almost forgot the music! Music from Everquest 2.
I am starting to think the younger generation doesn't even know what Dune is or all about. What a shame this is.
I'm curious to know if the reason we haven't seen serious MMO projects floating about this IP is because of the way it is being controlled. Could be the same reason that there aren't that many related projects/products around it, too.
You want to play in one of the story heaviest settings minus the story? Because that's what you generally get with "true" sandboxes" where everything is "player driven".
And GoT could be player driven as well. Simply re-create the game world of Westoros and let players battle out for control of the territories, with the ability to create alliances. Have a system in play where one becomes King and controls King's Landing, etc.
Seems pretty intuitive to me. It's not the story line that would draw me to that game. It's the faithful recreation of a massive, brutal world.
I agree.
I would love to see how I fare in the Game of Thrones world.
Would also like to see LotR, Attack on Titan and Red Dead Redemption sandox MMO
If I only get one I would choose Traveller. The game would have to be able to have procedurally generated worlds and populations, but with the economic features as well as space combat and all that. Would be awesome. Especially if you could do speculative trading like in the PnP rules.
Traveller? Is that a book or movie or?
Traveller was a very old school sci-fi RPG from back in the day. Good RPG. Very extensive back stories and class system.
Megatraveller 2 was a good PC game from back in 1990's.
I personally would love to see them make Battletech into a sandbox RPG, properly this time, none of those Mechwarrior online crap.
Dune would be awesome. What Timeframe would you use?
Dune would be cool during the Machine Crusade era.
I agree MMO base on the Butlerian Uprising would have a lot more freedom of back story.
I always feel that Anarchy Online's backstory is a bit of a rip off, in a sense, to Dune's backstory in the broader sense (of course they do have their own original elements, such as the nanotech thing).
Edit - Oh and I agree Dune would be awesome if done right with all its history and background with compelling stories / things to do - political, combat, factions etc.
I've been hoping and waiting for years for a Dragonlance MMO... I loved reading the books by Weis and Hickman, which I re-read every 5 years or so. Can't believe no one else listed this, its the perfect world filled with lore and history.

Wow. What I noticed is that a lot of these replies could have been a successful PnP RPG back in its prime.
Shadowrun - CyberPunk RPG
Star Wars - Westwood Star Wars RPG
Dune - Dune: Chronicles of the Imperium (2000)
Lord of the Rings - Middle Earth RPG.
Red Dead Redemption - Boot Hill
Wasteland/Fallout - Morrow Project
Diablo - DnD?
Game of Thrones - Stormbringer (not the same, but an RPG based on a set of fantasy novels).
Same request as always for my "dream" MMORPG.
Bond, James Bond.

I can't believe nobody has said Star Trek yet. It would be such an amazing sandbox exploration/diplomacy setting.
NOT a lockbox lottery game, mind you. /cough STO
I think you nailed it!
my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2
most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.
For me it would probably be Forgotten Realms, before the sundering stuff and all that. I mean, the world was literally invented with gaming in mind.

I too would like to see a Dune, Mad Max, Planet of the Apes or Twilight 2000 MMO.
