My review in 2014

RingsideRingside Member UncommonPosts: 249

I played the game at launch and I have to admit I had a blast but I was more of a WoW fan back then and Cataclysm launch just drove me away from GW2 and I never bothered going back until recently.

I am not going to elaborate too much and I dont want this thread to become a WoW vs GW2 thread but im going to list a coupe things that makes me love GW2 in 2014.

-1 The leveling experience is very fun. You are always scaled down with your encounters and it never becomes too easy like the joke leveling vs nerfed content using heirlooms wow as become.

-2 Its good when you become older because the game is extremely accessible and casual friendly. ( its also an easy game to get your wife or a friend into)

-3 The combat system in small scale encounter is very deep and fun. You have to analyse things and make wise use of your abilities. Sure you can spam abilities as soon as they come up but you will not be as efficient.

-4 The PvP in the mist is very fun still in 2014 and with the Mega Server, the queues are very fast at any time of the day.

-5 the cash shop is one of the best period. No pay to win but very appealing for convenience stuff like super mining pick with infinite charges and special particule effects as an exemple.

The game is now for me the best in 2014. I have never been a fan of questing but running around in the world these days in

gw2 with my wife has been the best fun I had paying an mmo since the last time I was hooked to Darkfall online.

----

I like the whole concept that nobody around you can take anything from you. When you group with people you still get 100% xp from the mobs you are killing. I was waiting for corecraft forever hanging around on the forums trying desperately to find a game that would not bore me to tears and all this time the game I was looking for was right in front of my eyes and I had already paid for it.

About the number 1 - with +power runes and blood sigil, a tweaked character will own in several low level areas (own as in one shot/two shot)..

Likewise, max level downleveled characters can be built to be either very hard to kill or kill really fast in several low level areas.

    Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

Was in the army with a guy with the last name Tiller. But yea, you hit the nail on the spot.

GW2 is the best MMO for casual and even maybe first time MMO players. But other than that...

Last time i was grinding in end zones, it was all about who tags the most critters to get maximum loot. is it still the same?

So the game becomes much easier when you twink youself to the teeth... Good point I didnt think about that since I started over new

The scaled down thingy is still a very nice feature when you out level the content a little bit or when you almost done with a zone but you stay to get 100% map completion

No idea since im not at end game yet but probably still the same. No matter what in any MMO people will always find a way to maximize their income because     fat progression > fun factor (For most people)

you are not forced into doing things you dont like tho.

People were crying all over the forums about dongeons being too hard when GW2 first came out.

Most people were cry babies when WoW cataclysm first launched and trying to pug heroic 5 man.

People now complain that wow too easy and they say they want harder content.

They cry when its easy they also cry when its hard and yet they are just bored to death with everything they are playing in general unless a game just came out, then they are super exited for a month and then it fades away and they start crying all over again.

My advice would be to sit back and start thinking about it for a moment.

Hardcore players like games when its hard but they are investing all of their spare time working hard to get more powerful in order to make their life ( the game ) easier. Completely mind bugling.

if you want harder content just get a guild group together and gear yourself up with greens and try running dongeons like that instead of doing it with min/max characters wih every BiS items. Then with the rest of your spare time, go to the gym or Try to cook good food, play music, learn new things you might not even know you like.

im not a big fan of huge raid content myself. Most fun I was getting out of WoW is when expansions launched and people are all under geared for 5 man heroics. The burning crusade heroics were the best imo. Required CC, coordination, threat control and tank had to actually work hard to hold aggro.

Need to tag depends on wether you feel the need to optimise and latch onto a karma train or if you decide to do events solo/with friends for a more relaxed approach. Karma trains allways annoyed me so I do my own thing appart from the big bosses- much better IMO.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

It is not as bad as in other games but it will be quite easier although some veterans and champions will still be a fair challenge.

At a certain point though, the differences between a real level xx and downscaled level xx are minor.

Unfortunately, that is still the case. It helps when you join a party to get more tags but if you just come by an event, you will feel that other players are your enemies because mobs die way too fast.
