LFG What's the best asian/anime style game around?

haibeyhaibey Member Posts: 14
Looking for a 2/2.5/MAYBE 3d mmo that is anime style. There are plenty I've seen maplestory, flyff etc. I am just looking for something long term and due to my obsessive nature only want to focus on one game. What game has the largest community and most support from devs? I know Maple Story 2 is coming out later this year or in 2015, but what is the king of these games right now? turn-based combat or real-time is fine.

I should have said F2P. But yes, FFARR does look truly amazing.

Maplestory, Elsword, Wakfu, C9, Dark Blood Online.

That's about all that I can think of off the top of my head.

Out of those Maplestory is probably the best game to sink your time into since it's been around so long and has a pretty large playerbase.

Elsword is pretty fun, but it's kinda confusing/weird so I quit lol, you have to waste your time running over items multiple times to pick them up, that's my biggest issue with the game I think.

When all is said and done, more is always said than done.

Age of Wushu, not anime style, but asian themed.

Do you have any more information on the kinds of games/features you like? As it is simply saying "asian/anime" leaves you with a lot of rather ambiguous pool of responses as there are all kinds of games and asian/anime style has relatively little to do with how they play.

Currently in response to answers here I would hesitate to consider FFXIV because you seem to be looking for a free to play and in general I don't think FFXIV is all that great. It really depends on your tastes though, so if you could provide some more info it would help myself and others come up with a better evaluation of your options.

I don't have a gameplay preference, I enjoy anything from RTS to WoW style games. I'm mainly looking for 2-2.5d anime style games with vibrant worlds and fun communities. ArchAge to me looks a lot like Guild Wars and visually great but not appealing to me. Sorry for being so vague.

    Shortlist is

    maplestory

    raganarok

    mabinogi

Ok well, the unfortunate thing is your short list already contains pretty much the kings of their type of game.

Maple story is still pretty much the most popular game of its type (kindof minimalist side-scrolly type) as far as popularity and population go. Other similar options are notably less popular although there are some options like grand chase and the previously mentioned dark blood.

Mabinogi is pretty much the only game quite like itself. There are games with some features but the overall package of mabinogi is pretty much the only thing like it on the market at the moment.

Lastly, Ragnarok online which suffers the same problem as maple story in that nobody has really managed to do it bigger than them. However you might consider looking into Tree of Savior alongside maple story 2 as it is sortof the current best hope for a spiritual successor to Ragnarok.

I'm sorry I don't really have a lot to suggest for you, as said the genre you're looking into isn't really booming at the moment. While there are games It is hard to recommend much over what you already listed as you sated you dont really have a preference of gameplay (so I didn't factor that in) and the populations of many of said games aren't that big.

Trust me, you've already hit on the best games in the genre.

Find a good community/guild in either of those games and you will stick with it for a while.  Nexon games have a good amount of support (but they support MapleStory much more than Mabi).  Then again, Mabi is a much more interesting game in my opinion.  Just start playing one and if it doesn't appeal to you after a while, move on.
