Should I join?

I've been keeping a close eye on Rift and all their releases. I'm thinking of joining the game, and I know it's free but I wanted to ask some Rift players how the playerbase is doing at the moment. Is it a good time for a newcomer to join?

-Is there enough players to where I won't have to level alone? I'm a very social person so I like meeting people along the way to do events, quests, runs, etc.

-Is the current content worth joining? I've never played Rift so I have no idea how much content there actually is, so I was wondering if there is longevity to the game.

Its a very subjective set of questions and you will get subjective answers.  I will share my opinions and attempt to be somewhat objective.

Rift just did an XPAC release yesterday so the community is up at the  moment.   I can say I have personally seen some players I haven't seen wandering about for a while.  I just started a new alt last week and there were people looking to group up to do questing.  There are always people looking to jump in and help with RIFTs and zone events. Chat is always running and the vast majority of people on my servers are quite pleasant and helpful.   (there's always one or two potty mouthed trolls in every game, but that's what the ignore option and language filters are for...)  FYI, it is entirely possible to level up solo if you have a day when you just don't  want to be social, you just miss some of the dungeon and group lore quests. (you can always come back for it later.)  There are more than enough quests completely level up.  As to whether there is "enough content" ,  i'm afraid you phrased the question to vaguely for me to be able to respond. Could you restate it in a more objectively measureable way?  The game is FTP. Patron status has some benefits, but you may want to seriously look at the shop first.  I  haven't needed the notoriety or xp boosts. Bags, bag space, bank space, and mounts can all be purchased in the store; and that's all I've needed while I was leveling up.

one really nice feature if you are a crafter, is the ability to go to the store and purchase, fairly cheaply, extra profession slots.  If you are willing to invest (mostly time) you can actually master all the professions in the game. (at least to level 60 - I can't say about the new X-PAC)

I recommend you try it for a few days and see if you like it as FTP.  the opening zones are quite fun to play and you won't really NEED anything the game doesn't provide to finish them.

Hope I helped answer your questions.

I have a life, its just different from yours.....

This definitely answered all my questions. I've heard some pretty good things about the Rift community and their dynamic events. Thank you, I am currently installing Rift and cant wait to try it out :D

Also the new xpac is quite good, actually a lot better than I though it would be.

I've heard pretty good things about the new xpac, it's what pretty much sparked my interest, thanks for the answer.
