Game is pay to win but just do a little research, buy all the cards to build your decks from the auction house and you can avoid the Rng card packs altogether.
Really fun game though and queue times to go against other players are pretty good cept for early morning hours.

I didn't realize they dropped the beta key requirement and now you can play the beta without a key just have to register. Hope it's pretty neat, I know it's like magic with pay to win, but I'm okay with that as long as I can earn things. Hopefully you can.
I downloaded this a couple of days back and after completing the tutorial, trying my hand at a few AI games and some against players in proving grounds I can say that this got some nice things going for it.
Other than the pay to win aspect of course. Goes without saying, a wallet warrior will wreck your f2p / meager pay build in 8 out of 10 games without breaking a sweat.
And as the game stands right now, it heavily favours the cash mallers who can buy cards off the auction for premium currency. But the main pve portion of the game (amongst other things) isnt included in the current build. So there is some saving grace left for things to improve later next month when other means to acquire cards are introduced.

Now after release, repeating the very same words from back then would be like preaching to the choir on this site.
Trading card games are pay to win in general so I am going to go ahead and not call this game PTW, just saying it is a TCG is enough. You can build solid PvE decks with in-game earned "cash" but it takes a lot longer. There is also a really cool mini game that I call "battle of auction house bots" that allows you to bid on cards then frantically press the refresh button for hours trying to win the cards you want... or you could just look at the reality of it and spend $0.43 real life money and buy the card outright from the in game player store.
Overall this game is really really good. If you like TCG's and really like building decks PLAY THIS GAME. The use of equipment and the socketed cards makes for an insanely wide range of builds. It can get really over powered really fast and that makes me a little concerned for the future of the game but it is a fun play.

This game really is quite good. I have only been playing a few weeks completely free and I almost have a complete tournament ready deck. It does start off a bit slow but once you have put together a deck solid enough to complete the arena cards start rolling in. For people afraid of the pay to win aspect of it I can state that I have bought 7 booster packs and plenty of singles off the auction house with in game currency. I have also earned platinum (premium currency) selling cards and equipment I dont need.
If you like TCGs definitely give this one a chance. Set 3 is set to release prior to GenCon and the MMO campaign is the planned update after that.
