So which class do you like?

AbaxialAbaxial Member UncommonPosts: 140

I have now started playing TERA seriously. I have tried so far: archer (L39), beserker (L30) and sorceror (L12). So far, i find the beserker easiest to play and the sorceror the hardest.

I can't really get my head round the slayer or warrior classes: melee specialists with leather armour? How does that work?

How do you feel about different classes, and is the star rating for skill accurate?

I have a lvl 60 Priest, 40+ berserker, 30+ warrior, slayer and sorcerer and so far I like my warrior the most. The reason is that I don't like to be pigeon holed into one role and almost all classes in TERA are either DPS or Tank or Healer. Warrior seem to be the only one which can be either a Tank or a DPS and hence gives me more variety. However being a good warrior Tank is hard as they really are paper tanks who have to rely on parry, dodges and special evasion skills to survive.

That being said I do find Priest quite rewarding to play as they can bolster the efficiency of a party quite a lot by their strong healing powers. But their DPS is abysmal and they can obviously not tank. They have very limited CC abilities as well. So if I would start from scratch I would have probably picked a Mystic as they can heal, albeit not as well as a Priest, but they have decent CC abilities and they can dish out impressive damage every 10/5 mins using their super pet. However playing a healer as a Priest is quite challenging because you have very few targetted heals and a lot of your heals comes from positioning and timing.

However for pure "fun" factor I have realised that TERA is much more fun as a melee than ranged. Reason is that the action combat is more pronounce when doing melee and ranged classes retort to kiting, like so many other MMOs, and hence the action combat does not really come into play. That is why I prefer a melee DPS such as the Warrior and Slayer over Sorcerer who just stands back and throw nukes all day.

Finally for PvP the most OP class by far is the reaver. Not only are they Elin only which makes their hit box tiny and thus hard to hit but the reaver class has almost everything. Self heals, dodges, evasion, mid-ranged attacks, stuns and AMAZING DPS.  So if you dont mind playing a pre-teen girl in panties, bunny ears, tails and disgusting weird "cute" noises then you should be an Elin Reaver as they dominate 1v1 PvP and can be hugely successful in team PvP as well. Personally I hate both the class and the race as they totally ruin the immersion of an otherwise, beautifully designed world but hey. I guess pedo tendencies is OK in some parts of the world.

But I digress. Warrior is the most fun, challenging and powerful class in my opinion. Priests are very good for parties but if you want pure DPS then go for a sorcerer.

Check out my vids below, in my sig, for some BAM fights with Warrior, Sorcerer, Slayer and Priest.

I so agree about the Elin race. Then all the fancy dress costumes are pretty immersion breaking as well. Oh well, you can't have everything. Is there a reason why reavers are limited to one race?

I am sure there is an official "lore" reason for it but I believe the real reason is that they did not want to spend the reasources to create the assets needed for every race out there. And, unfourtunately, Elin seems to be one of the most popular races so they picked that one.

And yes, stupid fancy dress costumes are immersion breaking as well. That is why I hate cash shops and the whole F2P thing. However, atleast, the cash shop in TERA is not game breaking such as giving you significant gameplay advantages.

Indeed, and it is one of the reasons that I do use the cash shop is that I don't feel it's forced on me. I get the impression, after trying many games, that TERA is the most truly F2P. So they get my money. Paradoxical, innit?

Yes, excluding some of the insanely stupid fluff items in there, TERA's cash shop is one of the best I have seen. I could not find a single thing in there that I "needed". Just got a stupid mount, which has no added benefits, because I felt the game was good enough to get my support.

The problem I have with ranged classes is due to one of the few things I don't like about TERA - the way that many areas are packed with monsters that respawn extremely quickly. So as a ranged solo attacker, if I don't kill my target before it closes, when I dodge back I run into another group of monsters, and while trying to extricate myself, the last monsters I killed respawn on the same spot. I end up picking a monster at the edge of the area, where I have a safe spot to stand, and killing it repeatedly.

A beserker tooled up in plate does not have this problem - just wade in and the more adds the better; they all fall beneath the whirling axe.

I personally play archer (elin) lancer (elin) warrior (casti) reaper (elin..duh) and slayer (elf) I personally love my archer, never did have issues running in to other mobs while kiting but then again i was watching my area as well as fighting. It is a multi task heavy class. Reaper...well they just steamroll enemies, zerker is really good as a starter imo due to the unlimited block, and heavy armor large hp pool. Lancer is nice too though more timed on block. And slayer, lots of fun but feels weak till 40ish.

You should be doing pulls of at least 5 mobs at a time, with every class. I have every class lvl 30+ (sorc/priest/mystic lvl 60) and with all of them you can multi pull with relative ease, The easier being sorc and zerk. The hardest of course the priest. But still. Just mount up, round them up and nuke. Solo targeting is so not Tera XD.

Pulling lots of mobs and finishing them of is fine with a Priest. I start with Energy Stars, to give myself a damage buff, then round them up and do combo with Shocking Implosion, Final Reprisal and Metamorphic Blast. That usually kills most of them, any leftovers are easily dispatched using Triple Nemesis, FInal Reprisal and Metamorphic Blast.

Normal mobs in TERA are unfourtunately too easy. Their aggro range is too small and their damage output too low.

Good to see you enjoying TERA.

Slayer and warrior have leather armor so they have less stat based defense than lancer and beserkers. This is balanced as slayers and warriors are more mobile than lancers and beserkers. They rely on timing dodge rolls and stuns to survive in PvE. Lancers and Beserkers can pretty much block any attack, but do not have as much mobility as slayers or warriors as a tradeoff.

I personally love playing a slayer. I've gotten the feel or warrior, lancer, archer, and sorcerer and none those classes fit my playstyle. I'd say pick the class that feels like your "style", and not necessarily what's easiest. The skill curve of a class is just what it'll take to get used to the class mechanically but it may not fit your style. Difficulty of classes also depends on what we're talking about specifically.

Mechanically, slayers have very easy combos to learn, but they are the hardest class to play effectively in PvP right now. That is due to imbalance as slayers as of level 60 patch is one of the weakest classes if not the weakest. To me, the star rating given by the producers is given by my how skills the class has to use and how many possible skill combinations there are. It's a rating that was given a long time ago, and true class difficulty has less to do with mechanics as everyone will learn that eventually and has more to do with class balance. I should say it's more like a skill wall, meaning you have to be well versed in the class to actually be useful compared to other classes.

Right now as of level 60 patch, Lancers, reapers, and warriors are strong in PvP (3v3's). The level 65 patch that is coming out soon will change the balance of things, but Lancers will still be strong, priest and mystics are always relevant (at least in 3v3's), and reapers won't be as top tier as before. Slayers are becoming stronger (how stronger depends on a few specifics of slayer skills that needs to get ironed out), warriors are still going to be relevant, and I cannot speak about sorcerer and archer as I have little knowledge about their presence in 3v3's and PvP in general.

I would say that no class is really "hard" in terms of using skills for PvP. You will learn to use each classes' skill set with time. Some classes may take longer to more effectively utilize their skill set, but ultimately this is not important to a classes difficulty. The part that takes a lot of time or skill is understanding what other classes do and predicting and reacting to your opponents actions. That will come with time and practice no matter what class you play.

Best of luck in the world of Tera!

I have similar problem with choosing class.

I wanted fairly mobile class and rougish class - so the natural choice was warrior (especially since its so praised)

I got it to lvl 15 , and its just not fun. The damage is ok i guess, but constant dodging is tiresome. And if you try to be more straight forward your HP is seriously hit. Also I dont understand how can you pull more main mobs, since you have to dodge every hit. And multiple mobs attack in different directions and times.

On other side I also tried playing archer, and I love it. Its lvl 16 now and gets hit far less than warrior (if ever) but everyone on forums say archers suck in PVE due to low DPS.

I also started slayer and berserker. Beserker is bit to "static" and slayer - is it more fun than warrior ?
