Question about cash shop games..

jitter77jitter77 Member UncommonPosts: 517
From a business standpoint wouldn't you think if games lowered cash shop prices they would make more money. For example i play golf star on android and to compete you need to upgrade your equipment. There are 3 pieces you can upgrade. It would cost over $300 dollars just to buy the power up passes and then another couple hundred to do the upgrade. Your looking at $500-600 just to upgrade clubs. Then there are clothes and stuff you can buy. You can win stuff in tournys but people exploit that too. Im in 3rd division and people in my div have 3-4x more stats than me. When you are outdriven by 50 yards on every hole its impossible to compete.
Another example is neverwinter i used to play and mounts were $20-30 along with other crazy prices. I would think that if cash shops lowered prices i would think a lot more players would buy things. People who spend alot will still spend to sell in the auction house so i don't think they will lose money from big spenders....

Zero entry fee cash shop games operate on a different economic model than standard supply and demand framework.

So in short No, they cant make any more money with lowering prices.

The model they use is a "Perfect Price Discrimination Monopoly". In short, they charge every consumer exactly what the consumer is willing to pay and doesn't have to compete with anybody, since each game/market is its own entity. These games are already extracting every penny out that they can.

IMO, they'd make more money if they made consumables cheaper.

Lotro, for example, sells Mithril Coins which do a number of things.  Most importantly, 1 MC allows you to instantly travel to a quest NPC.  they cost around 7-15 cents apiece, depending on how you buy them.

7 cents to save 5 minutes of travelling?  Sign me up.  But if I didn't have the money to buy them in bulk and on sale, with TP's I bought with double bonus TP's, I probably wouldn't use them, or would buy very few of them and use them only in extreme circumstances.  On the other hand, if they were cheaper, I'd use them more often.

Also, I think if they sold more stuff that was account based rather than just character based, they'd have more buyers.

    Just my opinion.
