[Award] General: The Great MMO Face-Off of 2014

Ever wonder what MMO would win in an all-out fight? Ever want to see it happen in a nice, neat, and concise user-voted tournament bracket? Well, now is your chance! We've picked 16 of the most venerable MMOs along with 16 of the freshest games on the block to battle it out.

This week is the primary round, and we'll finalize the tally on Friday night, December 5th at 11pm ET. Then, next week, we'll take the remaining 16 teams into the quarterfinals!

    Champions is a "Veteran" since it came out in 2009, and DCUO would be a newbie as it came out in 2011, but it didn't make this cut. We put down Marvel Heroes instead in this case. Though we could always hold a "Face-Off" of Superhero MMOs later.

    By this he means the "match-ups", not the selected competitors. Those we curated.

    Eesh, the bracket setups are going to create quite a few sad scenarios. Like with GW2 and ARR, they're both worthy titles and it's sad to see either knock out the other this early.

    Yeah, im not sure about the whole EQ vs DAOC thing.  Should of been something more like Asheron's call vs EQ, but /shrug.

    Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    I put my vote in, that games i played, but anything vs WoW as they out number us from 100 to 1 end up winning.

    Unfortunately, yes. WoW is going to win the poll, so it's not really much of a contest.

    If randomised, then rng likes me, easy pairs :) either because it's a straight out skip (like Eve vs UO, or DAOC vs EQ, lol, who cares? :) ) or because the pick was obvious.

    There was only one box to me with a close 50-50 call (Rift vs TOR), play both of them rarely as a 2nd line, backup game when in the mood, and with Stronghold now both have housing too...

     

    "Sorry SWG fans, maybe in a "Best Dead Game" poll." yep, sorry for them indeed, since both AA and CoH/CoV will be far ahead of SWG in that poll :) heck, maybe even Vanguard too.

    Oh my poor Neverwinter going up against TSW... That is not going to end well. It will be about as fair as the match Rourke did recently.

    Disappointed more people like DAOC than EQ. I played both, but felt EQ had tons more to offer, especially on the pvp servers.

    The only thing different that should be done is have it double elimination.  It is kinda meaningless when the number 2 game gets knocked out in the first round or a few of top 5 games don't even make it to the top ten.

    These brackets didn't seem very randomized. A lot of them either seem paired based on release date or type of game.

    Also, this is not going to end well. Oh, the tears will be epic.

    Did I also mention how much I can't wait for the new site either? Doubtful we're alone on that one.

    The randomized matches sort of threw me. I cast my votes for the games I play or care about. My poor Neverwinter and EQ2 are going to get crushed. I predict, in the end, that the Justin Bieber of MMOs will win through sheer brute force of numbers.

     

    Ah, the old set up to invalidate a win. I'm gonna do that too... if WoW doesn't win it's only because people are having too much fun playing it to be bothered with voting.

    This is the most random MMO vs. MMO poll ever. Whatever MMO wins isn't because it's the best one... Especially not with the other MMOs they are put against.

    For instance, Guild wars should have been against Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 has, not only newer players, but Guild Wars players too, so I don't really find it fair since it's obviously going to win when it has the larger community.

     

    FFXIV is a better game though. It has lasting content, better quests, a housing system, better dungeon design, and better class design even. Not to mention the devs are willing to put out an expansion for it...
