Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Heading to PC, Tablets
If you were playing PC games back in the 90's, then the Heroes of Might and Magic series probably has a special place in your gaming heart. Particularly the classic Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia which was probably the pinnacle of the series (I, for some reason, preferred HoMM2, but 3 was pretty spectacular too)

Today Ubisoft announced that it has revamped HoMM3 with HD graphics and is launching it onto PC as well as iPad and Android tablets in January! It appears to be the same great game, but the graphics have been improved to allows for widescreen aspect ratios on PC. The iPad version looks pretty spiffy, too, though.

It will have a campaign, but anyone who's played the HoMM games knows that the real fun is in the skirmish mode. This version doesn't fail there, with 48 different skirmish maps. It will only have local multiplayer, so I'm guessing that means hotseat or pass-and-play.

Look for HoMM3 to hit PC and tablets on January 29, 2015.

This new learning amazes me... http://youtu.be/KrD16CBEJRs

if they can squeeze HoMM3 HD version onto tablets, we're not that far from sheep's bladder vs earthquakes :)

Dunno, it was maybe 2 years ago when I first red that mobile / tablet gaming will be the future, but it's a bit scary how fast they're closing the gap. As I remember Heroes 3 with maxed out settings kicked the butt of my fairly good gear - ok, it was 15 years ago, but still... lots of tiny, detailed thingies clustered the screen, everything was animated, it looked amazing.

I loved this series up to 5,5 is where they traded large worlds for graphics, where you met AI or other players in the first week,I hate that. The largest worlds were equivalent to small worlds on HoMM 2-4. There is also the other version of HoMM I think that started with HoMM VI the Mandate of Heaven,I bought them all from GoG ( good old games ) for £13 last week lol,was so good being able to play them again.

Just a pity that they took away strategy in series like HoMM,Civilization, and wehnt for tiny worlds and graphics....kind of like MMORPG's.....

Edit: The other version is where you have a party of 4 characters and play in first person gaining levels and doing quests, dungeons.

You can get the new XCOM game for the iPad. There are way more demanding games on tablets than HOMM3.

As for HOMM3 it is definitely my best of the series. I have a hard time getting back into it, though, because at some point the game ends up being tedious when you have many towns and heroes and are constantly ferrying troops around. I always enjoyed the game the most during the exploration stage.
