Looking for MMO to replace ArcheAge

PerjurePerjure Member UncommonPosts: 250
Trion has finally pushed me away from ArcheAge so now I would like a replacement. Hopefully someone can lead me to a new MMORPG. I am not interested in GW2 or TESO. Looking for something similar to the ArcheAge concept of housing, farming etc... that was something I really enjoyed in the game. I appreciate any suggestions or even games that might be on the horizon that i can check out. Thanks!

On the horizon it's easy what's that other korean game which is said to be like AA? I think black desert or something.

I would suggest maybe looking at Black Desert but its the same FTP crap that ruined AA so I definately wouldn't go near it. Sandbox games and FTP just don't work.

EVE online you can actually farm but you'd be a miner so think space miner, and its actually a TRUE sandbox not a themepark sandbox like AA. The exploration in EVE is unbelievably huge and you can literally do anything you want and even the publisher rarely interferes with anything going on in game.

Unfortunately besides those its mostly theme parks out there ATM for MMO's.

WILDSTAR might be an option. The player housing in the game is second to none and absolutely amazing and you can farm your own land in your player housing area too!

    Trove

Also - would you consider a 2d game?

I am quitting TRION all together, so Trove is out.  I would probably go back to UO for 2D, really looking for a 3D.

    Thanks!

EVE online comes up a lot as a great game - I am not sure if space exploration is my thing or not, but I think I should give it a shot - I can at least look for a free trial or such. WILDSTAR was dead, dead, dead in the starter area when I tried it last - it looked like a fun game, and I am interested after you informed me of the player housing and farming - do you play and is there a population? Thanks for your help!

If there was a better sandbox than Archeage right now, I would play it. Unfortunately the artstyle of most Western games totally bores me, and most other sandboxes are shells of a future game at the moment.

I think EQNext has potential and Black Desert as well if it's not overly monetized. ESO will be more sandboxy once Update 6 arrives.

Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

Yeah, I really, really liked ArcheAge a lot. Darn TRINO. Black Desert looks interesting, not sure about the free to play aspect....

Going to be hard to replace ArcheAge I think - it really is a cool game, it was amazing in Alpha before the FTP and TRION's cash grab.

I'm in the same boat OP, I really liked the game but the poor management, lack of support and small amount of labor points you get as a patron is ridiculous.  I am keeping my eye on Black Desert and EQnext.  If both of those suck, I may start looking for a new hobby.

You mentioned Eve, it is a fantastic game.  You can own your own privately owned station (POS) and setup a very advanced manufacturing line.  I have been playing it on and off for about 10 years now.

Many new mmo coming out may end up disappointed, if one trying to replace ArcheAge many new mmo sound good but end up doing something people don't like.

Can try DarkFall I can think of.

I think I should try EVE out - will google for a free trial see if that exists. Might be best that I go for a completely new genre since ArcheAge was so awesome and seems like nothing compares that is out atm. Thanks!

Im currently playing Archage even though Trion has made some bad decisions. The game is awesome...the people behind it...not so much. The market doesnt bother me and I do like the ability for those same items to be tradeable. It allows someone like me, who doesnt put extra cash outside of the sub into it,still be able to get stuff. It does seems like games with a sub and a cash shop are here to stay. Even if I wanted to jump ship..there is no where to jump.

I have been looking at alternatives though. So when the time is right to jump ship I can find somewhere to land.

Black Desert is looking good even though , no healers and gender locked classes. ( Who does gender locked classes??),

Albion online has caught my interest as it seems to be more sand-box than Archage with a full loot system and more about guild politics over faction fights. Also this game will be played over many different platforms, but its cartoony and a Isometric view like UO.

Speaking of UO..Richard Garriot has one coming out that might be good..Shroud of the Avatar.

Also Camelot unchained looks like it will be a good one as well. DAOC spiritual successor.

I dont think there is a more hit or miss game than Eve t obe honest......Its either love or hate it seems like not much neutral.....I really couldnt get into the game at all...You have no avatar and basically just click on crap all the time......To me it didnt even feel like I was playing a game.

Get 7 Days to Die to get your sandbox fix.

Not an MMO, but it has plenty of sandbox fun.

In the same boat as you and OP. I loved AA in alpha and was very sad to hear how things went from bad to worse at release (haven't even touched it after alpha). I played EVE a couple of months with 6 accounts and it was awesome, but also starts to bore when you're mining mostly at the same spot and produce stuff (3 orcas in 2 weeks). As a last resort I returned to Lineage II but that game has turned from the political sandbox it was into a full themeparked level race to 95+ before you can do anything useful. And the differensation of locations you could level is gone as well now :(

Right now waiting for Shroud of the Avatar. Though I have bought the game, I'm not gonna play it actively because I'll loose anything I've achieved at release, and I don't want to have an other AA 'I played it all during alpha and am bored at release' experience again. The only thing I do are the monthly events for (free) gear that'll pass over to release...

No housing besides guild housing, but Age of Wushu. It's better than AA I promise you. 17 different professions all with mini games open skill system, the best bounty system I've played, player made alliance and factions. Truly a brilliant mmorpg.

Definitely give Eve a free trial, you should be able to find a 3 week key here on these forums. As mentioned, its not for everyone, (what game is?) but you should check to see if it might be for you.

Btw, you most definitely have a quite detailed avatar, just he or she seems to be stuck in indefinite solitary confinement in the Captain's Quarters.

Black Desert is the only thing on the horizon that looks halfway decent. I'm not a fan of Street Fighter combat though.

there is already a good reddit community for BlackDessert. They have tons of guides and if you come in contact they are happily to help you to get into the korean servers. the expenditures are minimal around 10euros for an account and what else for the VPN or DNS (better DNS) services which are never higher than 10 euros per month ...

if you are able to play with 300 ping go for it, its great game and worth all the effort i mentioned ; )

what did you like from archeage? That would help us the most to push you towards the right game.

    open world pvp?

    crafting?

    sandbox?

AA didnt have much pve,but PvE?

The truth is there is nothing like AA. It really is a great game that had the life squeezed out of it exploit after exploit and dollar after dollar.

I really wish it was done right because i saw myself playing this for years but it ended after 3 months.
