I don't think there's been a big boost since then. Numbers did seem to be up after the Beorning race update, certainly in the lower level regions for obvious reasons. WB certainly didn't promote the game at all, or even mention it.
Which really worries me, it would be a shame if they ever took the world of Tolkien offline... We dont want another SWG..
My theory is that the game is making a profit so WB is happy to keep Turbine going without any extra investment, but has no interest in the game at all. I think the cut backs are to maximise profits rather than kill the game off.

I think it would be a good thing, for two reasons:
1) this has never really been the world of Tolkien, and becomes even less his world every new patch. I've played Neverwinter Nights player made worlds which were closer to Tolkien than LOTRO.
2) it would give a chance to have another, much better MMO based on the franchise, made by better developers than Turbine.
Hell, I'd love a Lord of the Rings MMO made by ArenaNET or Blizzard.
Not a world of tolkien?
And you said you played it extensively?
Now i really doubt that statement
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I played LoTRO from release through the MoM expansion.. Probably one of the better MMORPGs I had played. Decided it was time for a break at that time and eventually came back to look at the f2p setup. I noticed that I unless I subscribed I had to pay a second time for content I had already paid for when I bought the game the first time. Didnt like that at all but I still subbed for a month or two and felt like the quality of the game took a nose dive so I moved on again.
