lol you found me out... I'm Jason in hiding... Way back in January of 2006 I hatched this plan to launch a KickStarter for Greed Monger because I could see into the future and see that KickStarter was going to be invented and was going to land me a whole bunch of money so I joined MMORPG.com on January 4th 2006 as JamesP so I could have an alter ego that would try and help me on this site when I completely screwed up. lol
Doesn't that kind of sound a little strange? Of course I am NOT Jason... I joined this site LONG before I ever started talking to Jason about GM and joined him. Before GM I had my own Company and team full of wonderful creative people with all areas of expertise. Our Creative Director was a former employee of Sony with contacts with in SOE. We had world designers formerly in the industry, we had some young up and coming members as well just trying to make their break into the industry. Just a little hint though you will be hearing ALOT more from my Company in the very near future as soon as we tie up some loose ends. I've got my Business Partner back and we are attempting to revive as much of our Old Team as possible. Our PR Department will be getting active on here soon.
How the mighty have fallen...How do you tolerate such stupidity from patient-0?
You do seem like a nice guy. Before I wish you well though, tell me, what are your views on music producing and cage fighting??
lol I've taught my self how to play the Keyboard/Piano minus the Cords and my Voice trust me you wouldn't want to hear me sing... That's about as musically inclined as I am... As for Cage Fighting Sorry... I've got a Blood Disorder that just a minor Bruise that a ordinary person would be fine from could send me to the Hospital because once I start Bleeding under the skin I lack the chemicals that cause your blood to clot so I don't stop bleeding... you won't find me Cage fighting... I couldn't even play football or Baseball in middle school or High School... I had to settle for Indoor track instead.
When I was 18 or 19 I was going through a rough time in my life and Computers were a way of Escape for me. I started Learning about WoW and thought how fun it would be to Create a world of my own that I could escape to and be someone else for a change and then I figured it would be even better if I could share that world with other players and go on adventures together. So I set out on my quest to learn everything I could about MMOs. I dedicated Years to learning how to Program, Learning about Server Security, Learning to Code websites, Learning database management, Learning all about Client Development and Networking. And I gradually moved my self forward. I met great people along the way who shared the same interests I had and taught me so many things about all areas of Game Development. I met my Current Business Partner through a mutual Contact and we ended up starting MMO Interactive together. Things happened money fell through and our team collapsed so we took some time off and during that time I met Jason and started working for GM. Now my Business Partner and I are attempting to start our company once again now that there are other ways to fund our Project and hopefully this time things will work out. He and I certainly have the ability to put together amazing teams because we have done it before and we WILL do it again.
Hmm, your answers about cage fighting still leaves your identity as Jason dubious...
So your a haemophiliac? That's so unfortunate; I'm sorry that you're affiliated with Jason.
I figure this is a good place to introduce myself.
My name is Joel, and I'm going to be fielding the PR for Greed Monger moving forward. We have taken time to really take the community's thoughts and concerns to heart, and we are instituting changes IMMEDIATELY. I am currently in the process of building a platform to make sure ALL people -- Not just the KS backers -- will have transparency in regards to the build processes, timelines, etc. We would like to thank everybody for taking the time to voice concerns, because bad feedback is vitally important to our success. My promise to you all -- the MMORPG community -- is to make good on our promises and deliver a product that justifies the investment. We are *not* perfect at all, but we will better ourselves every day. We hope you guys will follow us on this journey, and help us realize these goals.
If you guys have any questions or concerns, hold tight: I'm going to be setting up an email account SPECIFICALLY to address peoples' concerns regarding this project. I will answer them ALL personally, and we will prove ourselves to you guys again. I will also be assembling an FAQ with the most common questions/concerns, to save people the time of sending an email that's been answered already. Once again, thank you guys so much for taking the time to whip us into shape. Sometimes a helpful kick in the pants is what's needed to move forward.
Yeah you better kick Mr. serial entrepreneur to the curb. He has left a trail of failed businesses behind him and has all the markings of a "bad guy" who lacks empathy. He has proven to be a perpetual starter who can't finish yet chases get rich quick schemes because every 6 months he thinks up a new thing to sell - it's all over his social media accounts. Right there next to uplifting speeches while he treats that community like a turd. Never trust someone who tries to convince you they are honest and have a heart because people who post uplifting crap are always dirty at the core. It's called a front.
He planned to make quite a penny off of your work but doesn't even want to do the easy part - telling people what to do. Take the code with you when you go, that's my unsolicited advice. You are involved with a sheister - he breaks promises, has a short temper, and talks about everything but the game he is ignoring because in his world he is successful as long as he keeps shucking, jiving, and moving on. The longer you stick with that guy, the more he will drag you down. For crying out loud, he doesn't even talk about the game on his linkedin - it was just a bad dream to him and he ignores it.
You seem too nerdy to let your passion go but get someone else to speak in your videos. You aren't a good front man for speeches. You um and err too much plus I'm almost certain I heard you breathing into the mic many times in a sigh sort of way. I'm the same way so don't take it personal but you are better on paper or you need a script.
I personally think you are wasting your time sticking with that sinking ship. You tried but ok, you have another project to work on - your own - let Mr. big shot clean up his mess. Since he probably can't pay you anything but equity anyway - put equity in your own self because you'll be driven to pay yourself. At some point if you have any dignity you are going to become resentful of him taking any profit when you could use it all to build your team.
I think I can safely alert you as a Web Developer by trade with a college degree and developing going on 10 years, the guy is a scam artist. He claims to be in web for as many years and his sites are Wordpress and don't even follow web standards. He's a big fat phony. No one with the ability to custom code would show off a Wordpress site and call it their best. Once again, he looks for quick routes because he is faking his expertise. He's a good looking guy with charisma, skills he lacks. Good looking people should just stick to sales because that's what they do instead of claiming to be more. He sold the people on Kickstarter and he's selling you... for as long as you'll stick around trying to make him internet famous. His skillset is as fake as his wife's chest. Like attracts like. What you need in a partner is someone with an out of shape wife lol
When are you going to stand up for yourself anyway. This guy has ignored the project and let the heat fall on YOU. Why should you have to apologize for him. If he let you purchase the wrong software - guess who was inept - him because he was the leader. Sun Tzu says that when the orders are unclear it's the fault of the commander. He didn't know what he was doing - neither did you with as many core changes that have happened but you weren't the one claiming you had it all under control and you weren't the one starting new businesses every 6 mos.
I'd get my mother to give you this tough love but she doesn't visit this forum lol
Don't let the lightning bolt pass you by. If you have a crush on him and that's why you are sticking around. He's not interested if he hasn't tried yet.
Hope you're being sarcastic cause he's neither. Are his threats and freak outs charismatic? Charisma don't get you hated.
That fugly slob couldn't make money selling penis pills, otherwise he'd stick with it. Occupational track records and misery like his suggest "talentless failure".

No one wants to help Jason with anything. Looks like JamesP was thrown under the bus, but he won't screw you over unlike ks backers and members here cause you're the exception?
Why not? I'm just some random guy on a forum and he told me.
I'm not the one who needs convincing though. The people who are waiting for a game like this are the ones who need a strong coffee to get rid of the bad aftertaste that Jason left behind on his joyful escapades here.
Ok well I am just going to bow out of this discussion and allow Joel to handle things for now on here. We will be establishing an email address today where all questions, comments, and concerns can be sent to and we look forward to hearing from you guys!
We should be entering Alpha with in the next month or 2 then Beta hopefully with in the next 6 to 12 months, and Public Release some time after that. Our Servers are already Live for our KS Backers.
As for your PvP I really don't understand your question... What is PvP? Anyone who plays MMOs should know what PvP is... How it will be handled in GM is our Main starting Continent will contain a single Large PvP Zone. Then out side of the Starting Continent we will have Islands and Continents in what I call the Bad Lands surrounding the Starting Continent in which it will be a Complete Free for all with unrestricted PvP. There will be a warning box the first time you step foot out side of the protected area warning you that you are entering a PvP area.
Not trying to be antagonistic but we heard that for how many years now? Let us know when it's ready, i would love to give it a try in BETA.
Quite honestly, someone with 0 training or experience in the field being the main producer and the self appointed "Lead Designer" of a supposedly commercial quality MMORPG is a huge red flag. Huge doesn't even begin to cover it actually.

A producer with little to no capital, but hey, he sold boner pills. Hope he knocked on wood.
Ok, so I've set up an account at support(at)greedmonger.com to field any and all concerns regarding GM. Please -- Let us know what you think -- You won't hurt my feelings. We want to make good on our promise to release a solid product for Kickstarter backers. We've obviously had some bumps, which has led to us reshaping the infrastructure of GM and its protocol. My goal is to provide the community with a more transparent and positive experience. There are WAY too many backers to abandon this project. We'll take our licks, but please help us give these backers what they bought by telling us what you want to see in how we present ourselves here. We've certainly mishandled situations, but we're prepared to learn from them, and really move things forward. I hope the robust and matter-of-fact community at MMORPG can accept our humblest apology, and aid us in making GM a game worth playing. As always, thank you for your candid responses. I will read each of them personally. Thank you.
If there's one thing I've learnt in nearly 60 years it's that people and companies never fundamentally change. They merely adopt a new guise for public consumption. I wish you well as the new face of Greed Monger, but no matter how personable you and JamesP are, the founder of the company remains who he is. Sending you in his stead, cap in hand, to the forum he threatened is laughably inept.
EDIT: Thanks for the PM JamesP but I never read them and just delete them unopened. I keep it for the forums.

Ok... I was just saying we are making some large changes which are starting to take effect. We are expanding our Team. In the last couple days alone we have added 6 or 7 new team members. I've constantly been Conducting Interviews and I have a Inbox full of Applications still waiting. I am not at liberty at this time to discuss the exact nature of these changes but I assure you they are going to help GM be successful in the end!
As long as nobpdy is still taking money for this scam- I cannot WAIT to see the finished product.
Appleton was around beggoing for money, making promises, doing interviews...Until the checks cleared. Then POOF,hes gone and hasnt even sent out all the T-Shirts which were promised to backers (hes been too busy...) nor promoted/supported his game whatsoever. EDIT- HELL,by your own admission that asshole refuses to give you (the person actually doing all the work) access to the KS page so the backers (the people who paid all the money) can be notified of anything. Is that the type of person you want to work for or make money for? Someone who doesnt care enough to take a few mins to notify the people who PAID him ? Hes...To busy lol.
YET...IF this game were to ever succeed (it wont...) he will be cashing those checks.
So even if you guys ended up saving this disaster of a "game" and made a new UO, blah...blah...blah... I would not support it. because Appleton who promises the world and then goes MIA Will still profit.
James, weve talked before. You seem alright man-But as has been said before- YOU are going to be left holding the bag and YOUR name is associated with this mess (and Appleton)- Your best move would be to listen to those who say move on...Work on your own shit. You are a "volenteer" anyhow. Cut your losses. You were victimized as much (or more) than the backers.
-This wont end well, and has not gone well.
EDIT- 6-7 mew team members? Volenteers also? Where did you place the ads for help if you dont mind me asking? More free labor while the boss is MIA and yet plans to profit IF there is any money (already had his hand in the cookie jar...) SoAppleton gets paid while the people actually working ,promoting , etc, work free (or for pie in the sky promises).
I totally agree with what you're saying, but I must offer a few caveats to that statement:
1. We are not asking for more money. This is the #1 thing I think needs to be remembered here.
2. We've changed the structure, so that we may learn from our mistakes, and mitigate them in the future.
3. In the most business sense, Jason wants to make money. With the situation we have laid out, we will not only be able to satisfy his needs, but we'll *also* be able to honor the promises made to the backers. Seems like a win-win to me, and to wish failure on a company solely for the owner's actions, seems harsh and inefficient considering if this company falls, HUNDREDS of backers will lose any hope of getting a product. This is unacceptable to me.
I think I safely speak on behalf of James and the team by saying our loyalty and concern lies with the backers/customers. We are trying to make a solid product for the past/present/future customers -- NOT to satisfy Jason's needs. It just so happens that if the consumers are happy, then he is happy. If anything were to become 'untenable' for either James or myself, we will be the first to depart from this IP, and try to pursue another course to honor the backers. At this point in time, the lowest-resistence entry point to do so lies with the GM brand still.
A lot of times, poor planning, and *too much* success can really hinder (or kill) an upstart company. I feel like this is a prime example. Nobody was really counting on such a runaway success, and it was handled poorly at first, and we've since had to reevaluate how we do things to repair our image to get things going for the backers.
I absolutely understand ALL of your concerns and feelings, but unless we can work together to right this ship, people will be losing money. I can't, in good conscience, actively allow that to happen. Therefore, I'm going ot do EVERYTHING in my power to fix this for as long as I have the power to do so.
As always, thank you for your active discussion. The fact you're willing to tell us your concerns is a very humbling thing indeed.
Here's my Latest Video Update showing some of the recent progress...
Things shown:
- Improved Building
- Parcel Placement
- Improved Combat - First look at our Special Effects / Coordinated Effects System which allows us to create effects that are comprised of Animations, Particles, Audio, ect.
- Start of Mounts
- Mob Spawning... 300+ Mobs. Our Zone Server was tested with around 50,000 Mobs spawned in... Client crashed while before the Server Crashed as we currently have no Area of Interest System so the Client displays ALL mobs in the zone.

I think I understand James a bit better now.
However "Greed Monger" will always have the stigmata of tantrum baby Jason attached to it.
James your best choice is to tell them what you told me in private. Then get rid of any of Jason's influence, which is just taking money anyway.
Start your own project and give it a name that won't remind us of the ego brat all the time.
Okay, but why share that with everyone?

As for Jason, I know the story, I was here. (despite the join date). And I dislike that man as much as everyone else.
