Wooden gate...

So, in the crypt you first enter from the starting area, there's a wooden gate with a lever on either side. Pulling a lever starts to open the gate, but then it shuts closed part way up. Seems to do the same thing regardless of which lever you pull, and you can't get to the second lever before the door has shut from the first one yet.

So... assuming you're supposed to go in/through there, can anyone explain how you get that to open?
