Can we see results that exclude all votes from accounts created in the last month?

Would the result really be all that different? we're talking about a year old game vs a 7 year old one. I'm actually surprised more people aren't bent out of shape about TSW beating EVE, as EVE is the poster child for sandbox MMOs... or as many here like to say "real MMOs"

Meh, we who play EVE know that most folks don't care for "real MMO's" anymore, and we're pretty smug in our superiority. image

But EVE is hardly the poster child for sandbox MMO's, it caters a very small niche of people of a certain taste, would be interesting to see a full blown fantasy sand box MMO again one day.

I was more referring to the polar opposites of TSW vs EVE, and the overall theme of posts here, TSW is pretty much the epitome of what is viewed as wrong with the MMORPG today, vs EVE which is based around everything that was "right" with them early on. As far as poster children go, it fits the bill rather well as it's always held up as the example of a "successful" sandbox.

This contest directed many new players who want to back their favorite mmo to MMORPG.com and many complain about this.

Not a fan of ESO, but I have to congratulate them.  Their fans cared enough to get the vote out.

The most entertaining aspect of these contests are the predictable posts from cynics, and those with bruised egos whose identities are tied so closely to the games they play they take the loss personally.

Congratulations to the other games that also won! Well done!

Well I see both you points though. I think what is buggering him and a lot of people is that something like this should be considered a community award. However if people just join to vote and then never come back, they are not really part of the community, making the reward pretty much useless. Because now it's not the MMORPG.com community award, but the community award of the game who has the most willing community.

It would be a shame if your community can not relate to the results. Do not get me wrong, not saying this is true at all. I personally almost agree with the list (lotro, GW2, SW and ESO. Would be my top 4)

That's just the thing though to even mention it (especially in the manner done: his list) shows a personal bias in thinking "it had to be the new people" that made the difference. It also attempts to invalidate a segment of the voters. To what end? There's little ground to argue from that the MMORPG.com community as a whole didn't decide this outcome.

Seriously, get over it! This wasn't a presidential election. Why does this seem to bother people so much? Yes, let's ask the website to exclude new users from their poll and forbid game developers from promoting the site in the interest of "fairness".

You guys are acting like someone paid for the votes for Christ's sake!

    What really happened:

    1. The most popular game won

    2. The top games were all very good

    3. Bitter people that can't wrap their heads around the idea of a game "improving" threw a fit

Can we see the results that exclude all the bitter posters that only voted for games out of some ridiculous misplaced hate for their competitors?

Really, your negativity and completely closed minded view of the situation is just ridiculous.  Why do you feel the need to attempt to invalidate what other people like?  Your bitterness helps nobody and just tarnishes what is otherwise a nice little competition that ended with some great games.

But having recently joined the game, I can say, I have never seen such a thriving community in a long time, as well as a developer team who isn't afraid of reinventing themselves and just keep adding huge chunks of content, things you would expect nowadays to be behind paywalls or something, and new endgame overhaul as well as animation, criminal and justice system, proves they are not afraid to take chances and just hear out the community

Congrats to Zenimax and to the awesome community that stood together ;)

YES, Thank you. You really spelled out all the important points here, that ZOS is doing amazing things when it comes to listening to the community and actually trying to be a part of it! I get to be a part of some of the guilds who get real face time with ZOS to go over suggested changes and additions on a regular monthly basis. What a great community.

Point here is though that MMORPG.com isn't open to promote ESO, it is for other MMO fans too. Therefore, by bashing on other fans, you are just becoming as bad as them (assuming they were offensive to start with).

There is alot of nagging from the community as to why some games got more attention than others. WoW and GW2, among other games, didn't mention anything about the poll and therefore many are complaining that the results may not reflect something actual. It has been well-known for a long while than WoW and GW2 are possibly the two most popular western MMO-titles therefore fans have a hard time to let go.

Personally I believe that there is alot of variables therefore making a poll to statisfy everyone is impossible. ESO and TSW for example bothered to inform their players and the players did a great job supporting their game. Therefore they deserve to win. Blizzard, Anet and other companies didn't encourage their playersbases to vote so wether they lose or win, there is nothing to complain about, if they wanted to win, maybe they should be more dedicated.

Congratz to ESO, Lotro and TSW ^^

Hard luck for all other games.

Who said that this should be a community award? And where does it say that I can't be a part of this community? Maybe having me here is a good thing. And maybe this award represents all people who enjoy mmo's. Perhaps the "community" is bigger than some are willing to admit.

The people bashing on it need to give it another go.  I gave it a chance and I am very very impressed with it.  Great use of phasing and megaserver to make the game able to tell a story but still have other players in your story.  It is still the same elder scrolls you can get lost wandering in, just now you are not alone.

My vote went to ESO. Best game I've played in years. I can't believe all the complaining here about such an amazing game. If you've never played it before, or only played it when it was bare-boned (ie: beta) you should give it a chance.

Also, congratulations to LOTRO and TSW for placing! :D

  • HavrimHavrim Member Posts: 7

Definitely a good showing from different games.

It's quite funny to me to see the amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth here over games.

I'm always amazed at the number of people who commit so much time and effort to tearing down a game they're not even playing or a company they're not paying.

Why is it so hard for people to just *not* like a game and move on?  Why does it have to crash and burn in flames?  Is it really that important to dance on the corpse and put out the flames with all of the tears shed here daily?

Congrats to the games..I voted for ESO and EVE...and even though I don't play EVE, I still wish it had a fantasy/avatar based cousin to play....until that happens, ESO is my home game.

Thank you for posting maturely and admitting that some of us ESO players will join, I was one that made an account to vote for so far one of my favorite MMOs out there.  I am tempted to try and join the community, but after reading some of the articles replies and such, it is just getting so hard to even want to join.  I thank you for admitting that some of us are honest people, but I might only hop on the site rarely.

Very good point! I can't imagine why some of the people who came to vote might not want to join the community after reading these comments.

To the new people here, don't be discouraged. I am still unfortunately annoyed by some of the attitudes on this site but it's still a great site.

The people who run this place are really passionate about MMOs and it shows! Stick around and just try to ignore some of the blind hatred.

This is a good site, it is worth sticking around. We just happen to mainly be a community of bitter vets, looking for that experience we had when we were wide eyed noobs.  A wide eyed noob looks at a game and has a sense of wonder, sees things to do, places to see, exciting variety, and a chance to learn.  A bitter vet looks at the same game and sees balance problems, broken promises, incompetent developer decisions, and rehashed mechanics.  Really though all the bitter vets just want a game to make them feel like wide eyed noobs again.

But yeah, it is worth sticking around here.  I think this website does a good job with their staff reviews. Maybe for the next competition the winner gets a full re-review? Most games improve over time but we can't expect the site to be constantly reviewing every game. Only bad side of this would be if the reviewer thought it had gotten worse : P

I don't think it should be the only way a game gets an updated review of course, just thought it would be cool. If the game was popular enough to win, surely a new review would drive up website traffic as well.

I see it managed to make you make your first post in 7 years! At least they can't accuse you of being a new account based on the number of posts now.

I think all the people that flocked to the site show how much ESO's players love their game. Same with TSW, but I already knew that from their forum community. (Which is the most mature and friendly one I've encountered among the many MMOs out there so far.)

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

I'm very happy with that outcome, and somewhat surprised (and delighted) to see TSW in the Top 4 !

Those 4 games happen to be my favourite MMO's. Only SWG is absent, but that's part of history now.

How could Eve not win...their players are the masters of multiple accounts.....image

  • sschruppsschrupp Member UncommonPosts: 693

This vote, that will decide the fate of the universe was rigged. Rigged I tell ya! It should have been:

    1. My Little Pony Wormhole Xtreme

    2. Sesame Street: When Grover no longer understands Near and Far

    3. Cash Shops and Whiners: Alpha Mega!

It's obvious that the three winners listed petitioned the worlds' governments to hack the votes, and threatened MMORPG players to vote for the winners or be put to death. There's no way one of the newest AAA games with exciting combat, unique character development, wonderful graphics, and based on a VERY popular PC fantasy IP could have gotten first place. Or a huge, in-depth world based on the Fantasy genre's largest influence of all time could get 2nd place. And a game with one of the most unique settings in all MMORPGs, incredibly deep character development, with awesome story telling getting all the way up to third place? Puh-lease!

    /s

Congrats to ESO, Lotro, TSW! 3 great games among a large list of other great games. Now if someone would just make My Little Pony Wormhole Xtreme.

Aha MMORPG allowed multiple accounts per person to make it fair for EVE players :)

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

  • DanendynDanendyn Member Posts: 1
It's not about the game it's about the player community. I am not complaining about the winner or any game, but I still believe that LOTRO has the best bunch of players out there and they did come out to show their support for the game they enjoy playing with each other.
