in Final Fantasy XIV

Hi Guys.

Looking to try this game out and want to download the free 14 day trial.

When I download the trial and it goes to the next stage, open, my windows8 pc asks what app do I want to use to open it with?

Shouldn't this be an auto install? I downloaded it several times from the official site and still the same result. is there an alternative site to download it from?

    anyone any idea how I can fix this? does windows8 default to asking how to open something or is there something I am missing?

    Really want to try this game as I don't have a game at the moment and want to try before I buy.

     

    Have tried downloading again today and still the same result. Windows asks me what I want to use to open the program :(

    what kind of app is it? I've never had issues with Windows 8 so far. Are you using a pirated copy?

    no its a registered original copy.

    It downloads fine but then when I come to open it I get asked what I want to use to open the file. a lot like when you open a certain file in the wrong format and they all default to that format.

    The issue is it is only giving windows office options, word, excel etc.

    I then tried to download the full client hoping I could use that for the free trial, but that wont work without a registration code.

     

    If I cant try the free trial I will have to wait two weeks before I can afford to buy it, not a disaster but would have been nice to try it.

    Check whether the downloaded file has proper name extension - it should be named ffxivsetup_ft.exe

    Where are you downloading this triial client from. Are you sure its not some 3rd party malware website?

    Thanks for the help guys. I have tried the link provided and still the same result. when I look into my download folder it just looks like a blank piece of paper, not like the usual install ext's.

    Might be something wrong with my PC though I didn't have any issues with other games. Ill keep looking.

    Update and a big thank you guys.

    My file didn't have the .exe on the end. I added that to the file name when I saved it and I am now in the process of patching. Big thank you :)
