Is this a just PVP open world game? I read somewhere in the forum that there are no servers just maps or something like that and basically open PVP world. So PVE servers or PVE zones are out of the question?

No, so far we know that the game will be focused on PvP, conquest and politics. In today's update we got our first overview of crafting system. I'm sure in upcoming weeks we'll be provided with infomation about PvE. We are mostly certain there will be PvE content, but it may not be protected by safe zones, etc, but open for PvP encounters, which is what most of us desire.
As far as world, they are not maps, just separated worlds. You can think of different continents.
Just stay tuned and check website and forums every week until the end of the count down when full vision and plan for the game will be released.
Nefastus - Enclave
Nice.
So it is going to fail. Ok thanks for the warning. I was considering this but I don't see mandatory PvP games being more than a niche thing.
You're right, it'll be a niche game. People have understood by now that you can never please everyone, so the smart thing to do is specialize and target a specific audience.
That doesn't mean it'll fail though.
Niche games are very difficult to make work past beta.
Wildstar is a case in point. I beta'd that puppy and did not buy it because it was so specifically hardcore focused - both in the game and in the community's mind. The gameplay was unpleasant and grindy and endgame was dismal. If you had a great guild and could count on 20 or 40 people committing to a dungeon that you'd wipe out of if ONE of your team died then you were in good shape. Otherwise you were relegated to pug running and endless attempts to gear up to get through gear gates that were simply, actively unfun. The community was raging 24/7 about no carebear players at the same time they were hurling themselves at the gear gates and frothing over lockouts and wipes.
The Wildstar devs chopped out anything that was not hardcore and driving toward the endgame and as a result the game was appealing to so few people that a week after launch it was clear the game was in serious trouble.
So please be careful with Crowfall. Please don't be such rabid PvP fans that you'll only allow worldwide full loot permadeath auto pvp with no safe havens for anyone anywhere. Please consider crafting and housing and social interactions (other than i killz u bad lol mf) and the ability to enjoy the game doing something other than PvP. I love the work of some of the folks that are involved with Crowfall and would hate to see the game fail because it is built for PvP only.
