mmorpg.com Does not seem to be posting any updates on EQN workshop show. So I thought I would chuck this up here. This week is feedback on the new Qeynos combine city. I wonder if they will change the name as its Sony-eq spelled backwards =-) Some great work and new concept art is shown.

Have we heard anything about going forward with EQN or has it been cancelled?  Probably too early at this stage for a final decision I imagine.

My guess is they are measuring their feedback to see if the game is still viable. From what I have seen and read, this game will never release.

Smed has said all games in development and currently running have no plans to change that. EQN is a go.

If Smed has said that then you can bet it will be cancelled.

I just can't handle watching these workshops anymore..  Don't get me wrong, I love architecture, even to the point that I thought about declaring that as my major instead of accounting in college.. I have taken a number of classes in both high school and college back in the day..   They keep jumping back and forth between fantasy and realism, which has no focus or logic behind it..   They need to stop justifying realistic architecture, but then turn around and ask for fantasy..  Most of the show is just 3 co-workers just talking back and forth and have no real purpose to the community..

This whole process is taking way too long, which might be part of their problem with population and interest.. I get the feeling they keep milking the time, delay delay delay..  I have personally dealt with and talked to real life architects, and it doesn't take this long to identify your theme (aesthetics) you wish to go with.. SHIT..  Frank Loyd Wright would be boggled by this time..

PS EDIT:  Perfect example. At the 50 minute mark that dev doofis Jeff says to avoid curved glass like the plague because that technology doesn't exist yet.... EXCUSE ME JEFF..  FIREBALLS out someone's finger tips isn't a realistic technology either..  MY GOD I hate it when people like Jeff mix and selectively choose what fantasy they wish to ignore..  Furthermore, glass was curved since it's real life inception.. I guess Jeff never watched glass blowing, which has been around for centuries, but I hate to confuse OUR world with Norrath..  Grrrrr

Would not see you taking it any other way =-) I think its awesome they are including the fans. Giving them a place to be part of the team. Have their work be put in a triple A MMO. Getting feedback from the devs. Watching the communities work be shaped by the devs feed back and at the end, everyones work gets put together to make a city. When they showed us a part of the Dark Elf city made from just player made buildings. That was something to see. Also to know, I was part of that in my own small way. They are building a real core community and thats what a lot of MMOs are missing.

I couldn't agree more. In many avenues such as forums, social media, and in game the community has been great. The process that Daybreak chose for their recent games has been controversial to some but I think it fosters the type of connection players have been wanting with a developer. Not complete control, it's not a republic, but at least being given longer than n months before release (old typical closed/open beta) to speak their minds and have a chance at influencing change. Same goes with having build contests to flesh out content for EQN. Everyone involved in the process wins, even those not involved who get a better game in the end.

I can't help but feel that if it was another developer promoting an open development process and player created content it would be heralded as the greatest progression in MMO development ever.

No offense guys.. Honestly, but what we are seeing right now is Strategic Planning BS 101..  I've seen it too many times, and laugh each time at all the people that buy it hook, line and sinker..  In most public SP events the end result has already been chosen, all you're doing it giving the public the chance to take credit for it..  Let me give you a very short simple example how this works..

I'm the boss of a Strategic Planning committee and we already chose to go with "green" apples as the state fruit..(undisclosed choice).. Now we open it up to the public for opinions, ideas and input.. We listen to the public, and over the course we find ways to politely sway and influence the selection of fruit..

    • "TY for the idea of the Kiwi, however as much as we love the green color, we would like something more local"
    • "TY for suggesting the red raspberry.  It is every delicious. However the seeds might be an issue to some, so we are looking for something softer..
    • "TY for giving us the idea of the red apple. It is very sweet, not too hard, not too soft, but we were hoping to stay with something along the natural green colors as the Kiwi..
    • "OH.. TY very much for suggesting the green apple.. WOW amazing idea, do we all agree?"
BOOM.. the Green Apple is suggested and approved with public involvement..  Why do companies, organizations and even our govt do this?  Because it's widely known that if someone just TELLS you what the selection is, it will meet with more resistance then an open public selection.. Plus if the project fails, it gives the committee a scape goat saying it was the public's idea.. LOL

I have watched more of these than I care to admit. They are so off putting and cringe worthy. I don't think they could build anything as cool as what the players are making but boy can they comment. Mad props to the players making the game for them tho, some of the stuff you can see in game and on these shows is awesome. Really that's the only reason to watch the hosts are pretty bad.

I guess a lot of people lost interest tho, started out around 30k views for the landmark stuff now they are lucky to hit 3k views a video on youtube. That and logging into landmark is a ghost town.

They really should have some sort of creative mode for players to build in, gathering everything and upgrading picks, doing combat, it's all pretty tedious if all you want to do is build and this is coming from a guy that spent many hours sheering sheep in minecraft to build a giant Optimus Prime.

Really I wish they had just released Landmark as a focused building tool set not some malformed mutant testbed.

    Bingo.

This is exactly why Trove devs put in a "metaforge" - which is a free building feature where you can test out your creations - like dungeons, lairs, weapons, models, whatever assets without needing to gather ANYTHING - you can even use 3rd party voxel builder tools to save your creations and than load them into Trove's metaforge.

That's what Landmark is missing - look at what other successful open-dev games have done and learn from their successes - copy the things that worked well for others!

Few weeks play in Landmark and most people have more resources then you will ever need. This is not a problem in Landmark. Most players end up with so much then need alts to hold their mats. The communities in game are sharing with each other. Handing back and forth mats as well. Seeing plots just stacked with share resources is funny,

Really? The video I watched had them start off making stupid fart jokes and looking at concept art for 20 mins before I shut it off...
