Archeage: Being AFK is now completely legal !

SpottyGekkoSpottyGekko Member EpicPosts: 6,916

Yup, things have gotten THAT bad !

http://forums.archeagegame.com/showthread.php?162560-ArcheAge-NA-Maintenance-2-10-15-at-8-00-AM-PST-(GMT-8)

The AFK kick mechanism is being removed.

Why ?

  • It will increase the apparent "server population", making it look like there's plenty of players at all times.
  • It may result in longer F2P queue times, which will encourage F2P players to switch to Patron.
  • It may tempt more players to try F2P and stay logged-in 24/7. Quite a few of those players may eventually convert to Patron to save themselves the bother.

The announcement will no doubt be welcomed by F2P players. And RMT bots.

Not really surprised, the game is in it's deaththrows financially it seems. Which leads to the company removing what VERY little integrity it had left.

But not really important to me, I knew I hated the game when I tried the beta.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

This game was a bait and switch tactic in an MMO. This game is dying a painful death.

I must missing something here, what is so bad about this annoucement?

Players do what they can to be afk, auto-open something in a full inventory, auto-attack a enemy building in safe zone, etc, and all this is allow so better remove afk kick. When there was queues the afk kick was need it, now not anymore.

There are a few things about AA that i agree deserve some critics, but this? really?

Was fun for the first two months but the pay wall after pay wall wore me down to the point I let my farmhouse and 16x16 melt as I walked away.  It is no surprise that they are allowing AFK as they have lost a large majority of players.

Basically....those of us left whom are still willing to speak ANY positive about AA are being shown the door. Regardless how far the game has come, what has improved or fixed is not relevant. Those on MMORPG.com are forever locked into what happened during the first month and are in endless need of validation for their decision to leave.

So the only option we have here at MMORPG.com is to either sheep it up and agree with the vocal minority or leave. No other opinion is tolerated or even discussed any longer. I have NEVER seen so much toxicity revolving around a video game in my entire life. The behavior of the community I feel is completely unique when it comes to AA. It's like a generation of children whom had a life of having everything handed to them suddenly decided to play video games and their first game was AA.

Here is what I learned about this new breed of gamers that I never knew existed prior to AA

    • Grass is greener! Obsessed with keeping up with the Jones's. What others have consumes them and impacts their enjoyment of the game.
    • Huge lack of self control when spending on the cash shop and will spend until they are broke then blame the dev's for making them spend their money.
    • They expect dev's to make games FOR THEM FOR FREE. Anything of any value in a free game that is charged for, immediately becomes P2W in their eyes.
    • A game gets two weeks -  month most post launch. If it isn't 100% perfect by then, onto the next one.
    • Need constant validation that they made the right choice by getting others to agree every chance they get.
    • Are in a constant state of looking for the next game while condemning every new game that releases.
    • Love to come up with derogatory slang terms (White Knight, p2w, Trino) for the opposition in lieu of actual discussion.
    • Never loyal to a single game
Players like this will be the end of MMORPG's and this kind of player will NEVER find their perfect game nor will dev's ever create it. You can never please that which is completely unreasonable by design.

The quality of Rift and its flawless launch put this company is really good standing with MMOers. The way they kept up content and updates showed they cared. How things have unfolded with this game makes me think this is not even the same company.

Considering how many bots are/were/will be in AA, does this even matter?

And even being logging in 24/7 you will STILL need to buy labor potions as a patron status player, so who cares?

I honestly dont know which is worse, the people you talk about or you.  Being on either extreme (fanatic or hater) is equally as bad for the community.

I liked the game, I hate the financial model.  I choose to no longer play the game since I dont want to see this type of payment model spread across the industry.  If AA was a big success and was able to hold lots of subbers and generated tons of money through its cash shop, what would be next?  Imagine if Rift only allowed subbers to raid once per two weeks unless they paid extra.  Imagine if Eve only allowed a person to fly two different ships per week unless they paid extra.  Imagine an MMO industry where skill level in crafting meant absolutely nothing and had no effect on the quality of crafted goods.  What if all MMOs changed their loot tables to only drop needed items to less than half a percent while at the same time adding a 10% chance at those items to the cash shop.  That is not the future of MMOs that I want to see and I am honestly glad that AA player numbers continue to fall.

I understand you like the game and honestly, I do too.  I liked farming, fishing, gliding and doing trade runs but the more I played and the more I saw the direction of the financial model the more I realized I could not support it unless I wanted to have a hand in destroying the MMO industry that I love.  You can call me "toxic" or a "hater" and say I am never loyal to a game even though I have played Eve for over 7 years.  You can say I expect everything for free even though I paid for a beta package, made some purchases from the cash shop and subbed for several months.  You can say I didnt give the devs time when I played for many months and the greed I saw only got worse by adding rumbling trees to the cash shop.  You can say all these things about me to justify your blind love of the game but in the end, you would be wrong.

It just kind of sucks that someone who leaves their computer on 24 hours a day connected to the game has an advantage over someone like me whose wife gets peeved if I leave my machine on while we're sleeping.

    Just because of game design.

Theres a lot of good stuff about Archeage.  Theres also a lot of small and large annoyances.  This is probably one of the smaller ones but its still annoying.

The game was launched 2 years ago in Korea. It didn't fare well. That should have been a heads up long ago, but the prevailing attitude was "yeah but westerners are different!" It turns out, in a shocking surprise to no one, that no one enjoys getting bamboozled regardless of what country they hail from.

Its been completely legal since October. They had multiple Trion employees state on their forums it's fine to afk. The afk kick methods were worthless.

As someone who spent some time playing Rift and watching that game develop over the years, i've always held Trion in high regard.   It wasn't my kind of game but I always felt Trion was a fine outfit.

Archeage though I felt was handled in a very trashy way.  Incompetence that reminded me more of Snail Games than Trion.

I hope XL is to blame.  I know Trion got themselves where they are, but some sins are worse than others imo.  Maybe Trion will recover and we'll see good things from them in the future.  Maybe not.

Honestly it address an issue where F2P players get royally screwed for NOT being able to be offline and get labor.

That said... that problem is ARTIFICIAL in that it should not exist to begin with.

The only and last game i remember being allowed to stay afk was FFXI and i enjoyed every minute of it,i hate games that don't allow it.

I have no doubt what soever like NONE,the ONLY reason games don't allow afk is because they are cheap nickle and dimer's.

There is nothing wrong with afk, quite often players just don't want to have to go through the login process because they stopped for a short break like dinner or play with the kids for a bit, play with the pets for a bit, something of interest popped on the boob tube that takes you away for 15 whatever,it's all good.

RMT problem are not solved by anti afk because believe it or not, they actually do play THAT much, they are the least ones to be afk. Some of the biggest rmt operations have shift work, they might play 8-12 hours straight, then a new shift takes over.

QueUE times, that is not something to blame aflk on ,that is TRION's problem. If you are going to run a f2p operation that should NOT mean a degradation in quality of the service. If they are not after all this time prepared for enough server space, then they are a sub rate publisher you should not support.Trion had the same problem even during th release of their flagship game Rift,i think they truly are that cheap and nickle and diming. That is why they are opening it up,they do not plan on spending anymore on servers so it all goes back onto the gamer.

Seriously, it took you until now to see that?

Ultra casuals have been bitching about keeping up with the jones's for AGES.  They bitched at raiders, because, the only reason raider's wanted raid gear was so they could flaunt it in the peasent's faces.  They bitched at people who leveled faster than they could because they didnt have as much time to invest as those people, so that meant the game developers should alter the leveling curve to make them level faster (thus why max level in most mmo's can be reached in <50 hrs nowadays).

I could seriously continue the list, but i think you and i are on the same page.  It just surprised me that its taken you until AA to see it.

They should remove the AFK kick right after the first month queue problem end. It take a while .

Now they should raise the tax of AH to 20% (or 25%) and let player create they own personal shop . This part is joke lol.

Honestly , i don't think Archeage make big profit , Apex bug since stat of game and it take them while to fix it. The "free apex" all turn in to labor and you can't catch people who use those.

I though i can enjoy it for 6 month to 1 year but the bug and labor pot in cash shop speed up the game too fast , it ruined after the second month.

The AFK kick mechanism is being removed.

    Why ?

Because people are circumventing AFK timer kick in 10 billion ways already

removing the AFK timer kick makes the most sense - as it helps everyone regen labor - patrons and Free accounts - this changes helps ALL players.

Don't you see this is a good thing in reality - if XL really wanted to be greedy they'd still be going after AFK kick timers to force labor potion sales.

The fact that they're backing away from this and allow everyone to stay logged in and regen labor - this is a victory for the players.

But I guess anything positive about AA is a big no-no here.

Did Trion replace the revenue stream, from the sale of Labour Potions with something else?  Or were LPs so hated, that they didn’t sell at all?  Does the gaming public really believe they win, when Developers don’t make money?  As if games could exist, without being payed for.

F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.
