The real question I have is this... will this game be proclaimed the game of the year even though it isn't even done like EQNext was so famously awarded? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think he means when EQN was given Best of Show at E3. At least that is the only thing that comes close to what he is talking about.

Oops, meant to say E3 2014 Best of Show... but the idea is the same... giving more credit to a game yet to be made over those that are actually in release.

That, and that we were told it was going to blow our minds (or make us crap our pants or something along those lines).
Turns out, there was no game. There still isn't. So yeah. In the mean time it looks like the hype train is prepping Crowfall as the latest and greatest savior.
The only one that made sense was "most anticipated". SOE cast a powerful spell that year. I think they should have waited, because the hangover effect is going to bite them on the ass.

Oh, this is brought up all the time for whatever reason. So, when we go to shows we see a bunch of things and at the end of the show we all get together and talk about what excited us most with regards to categories we're looking to give show awards to (e.g. Best Indie RPG, Best of Show, etc.). That year, the presentation we saw for EQN simply trumped anything else we saw at the show, playable or not. It got us the most excited -- and so it received Best of Show. That's it. That's all there is to it.
It doesn't mean the game will for sure be the best thing ever or anything like that. Heck, I remember how excited Bill and I were when we first saw Neverwinter. I'm pretty sure we gave it Best of Show for PAX that year. Unfortunately, while the demo we were shown looked friggin' amazing, the overall game turned out to be pretty mediocre. There's no way for us to know how things will turn out in the end -- we can only tell you how we feel about what we saw when we saw it.

Oh im sure they already have an article queued up about how crowfall is set to change the industry or some nonsense. Get your popcorn.
This will be the first Kickstarter I'll be throwing more than $5 at. Mainly because right now, I have at LEAST $10 in my bank account. Unless the wife got in there again...
unfortunately for SOE or Daybreak or whatever. by the time they show us some actual gameplay the game will most likely look like nothing they had first described. it seems the initial hype around EQN was a marketing ploy to sell early access to Landmark.
Yet another industry wannabe changing game going to kickstarter. Sorry but no matter of how important is their mission or how much effort their put to their 2 month pre anouncement hype campaign I would wait for finished product this time.

Well, the money from the first kickstarter will go to leagal fees when HBO hits them with a cease and desist over copyright infringement on Game of Thrones...
Mmorpg can't say that they are not quitey over hyping this game. Imo they did overhype everquest next and after tomorrow they will be going full force. Members will be getting banned for speaking out about the game and so on. The pattern is so familiar on here it's like ground hog day.

I'm pretty sure that's a community pattern, not a site pattern. If you think that the site is driving the hype train for a game then I think you're giving them a little too much credit.
Here is what I want you to ask yourself, do you feel today on kickstarter day, like you would feel if a game you were wanting to play is actually being released today? Even the slightest bit of the same sort of nostalgia that one might feel on release day?

There's a happy poster some where on these forums declaring some game to be good right now, surely they're in greater need of your post...

What the heck do people think game journalism is about? It's no different than a SkateBoard or Sport mag, they're whole job is to be hyped and support the industry that supports them.
