Is this another pve grind gear / instanced pvp game?

I'm looking for a good crafting / challenge leveling pve content game. Is this the wrong game for me?

It's a great game, great crafting and has matured into the best mmoRPG (emphasis on rpg)

Re crafting, to give you an idea you can level all types at once, and generally people craft gear as they develop to keep themeselves at a decent level. The new provisioning system is pretty cool and ties in with this.

Re pve, dungeons everywhere, and many just got revamped yesterday. The works us massive and feels open and quests are high quality and mostly voice acted (about 400 hours worth on the same char)

Personally I'm 200 hours in and have half the world yet to explore/quest in - currently working randomly across 2 of those.

Re skills, this is the best bit IMO, you can level hundreds of skills and are free to swap between them at anytime, e.g I could switch to a plated sorcerer using his bow to a healing dps hybrid in medium armor etc etc.

If you are looking for a good pve fantasy mmorpg that does not try to hook you into the gear race at end game ASAP and punish you if you don't then it's a great choice.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

crafting system is like any other crafting system the only thing i didnt like or whats kinda of unique is that whole rune discovery.. which there is 8 stages and the last 2(correct me if i am wrong) take 1 month each IRL..

The pve to me wasnt challenging nor fun.. I did get to lvl 50 v1, took 3 subs to do it b/c I hated lvling in that game..

The PvP is Cyrodil which is a whole another area.. Huge area... but outside of that Huge Area there is no pvp so its pretty much a faction vs faction vs Faction on going seaonal Battle Ground..

I would say yes - the crafting is pretty nice and deep, at least when compared to what's on the market now. The PvE is adequately challenging - its not like every battle is super tight but if you don't block/interrupt and move out of stuff you can get owned even by lower level mobs easily.

it looks like I might enjoy it for the most part. I can pick it up for $25 right now and going BTP sounds like a great deal. is anyone worried about the cash shop becoming the major focus after the switch?

I craft 100% of my gear minus jewelry which current can't be crafted and need to be supplemented through guild store or drops especially for set bonuses.

There are drop only set bonuses as well for a variety of items but is not required to be equally effective minus for specific set bonuses that mathematically improve your build outside of crafting.

    You stay sassy!

It apparently isn't currently but there is always a risk of a f2p game becoming a cash shop game.

Yep - I'd venture you will get a good 30-90 days before that happens...Rift/Aion F2P were destroyed within 60 days.

Of course.  That's how it will pay the bills.  Will it go too far?  I wish I could be positive, but I've seen no more then 1 or 2 games that haven't so far.

It's worth the buy.  Whether it's worth the stay time will tell, but it's one of the best at the moment.

It is not a f2p game - in the accepted context of the term f2p. That is why you pay money to buy the game.

Is there a risk however - absolutely. Especially if people opt to spend $15 a month buying crowns.

Way better than that super hero game.

You really have to stretch the meaning of the word "instanced" to say that the PVP here is. It's technically instanced just like a whole server in other games is an instance. It's a gigantic, persistent 24/7 "instance."

The last pvp I enjoyed was old Alterac Valley in Wow. What is the pvp like in ESO ? I like pvp that is a bit drawn out not bang bang your dead if you know what I mean.

It varies but it's typically slower paced. Attacks from stealth will put pressure on you to react quickly but otherwise the pace is very good.

You will need to try for yourself. It's not a clear cut answer.

Crafting is meaningful, but there are also elements of a gear grind if you want more competitive pvp gear. It seems like they want you to run Undaunted (dungeon) dailies repeatedly for a rng drop of head and shoulders. That's what the more dedicated pvpers do. But you can remain decently competitive with crafted gear.

PvP is better than most games, as far as my experience. Is it instanced? Yes, but I think up to 600 people can fit in the open-world instance of Cyrodiil. So it's also *like* open world. Hard to say exactly.

Personally, I don't like having to run instanced dungeon dailies (or trials which are like raids) to have a chance to get the gear to compete in pvp.

I don't do dungeons anymore for the community moves to fast for me these days. I love to level characters and craft for the most part.

I see the negative people are still active here.

I got a solid 6 months to now (almost a year?) playing and still would sub. Don't get what's wrong with people now days....it's a great game and has replay aspects with other races.

I know how you feel.  In a couple of months, when and if I decide to fire up ESO again, it will definitely not be my PVP game.  I have GW2 for that since it really isn't as gear focused as ESO is.  Plus I have issues with ESO's version of seige engines, but thats neither here nor there.  If I lose to "Billy" in a 1vs1 I want to know it was because I screwed up with my skills and not becuase "Billy" ran dungeons more than me, thus outgearing me in the process.  PVP is always my end game and I will be damned if I have to do raid/dungeons/trials to be competitive.  It's not laziness.  It's preference.

So yeh, ESO might end up being my back up PVE mmo that I will jump onto every now and again.  At least until the GW2 expac rolls out.

Well, as of 1.6 you will have to grind something for xp when you reach cap, champion points are the new game (provided they drop veteran levels and equlize gear at some point) and xp in pvp is very slow.

Someone with bunch of champion points has huge advantage over those with only few in every absolutely every way you can imagine and some ways you wouldnt even imagine ;)

    IMO

ESO pve............................  is an action oriented twitch game where post 50 you grind

ESO AvA.............................poorly tested, still suffers from  major stability problems, and has received zero feature development since the games introduction.

I un-subbed when  they said there were NO PLANS FOR ANY NEW FEATURES until after the June console intro had "settled down"

Ah, it's turning into another Guild Wars...

There absolutely needs to be a decent end-game.  Something other than running instances for PvP gear (I don't even like PvP).  What I've seen of the high level content is... kind of disappointing...

Most of all, the combat system is a major put off.

I want to pull the trigger on it so badly, but I'm not paying $60 for an MMORPG with a crappy FPS combat system bolted onto it for no reason other than "let's be different."  It's part of the reason why I never played any of the TES games (always bought them then returned because I couldn't let myself open the box and end up wasting $60 on something I'd avoid playing due to that).

If you don't like the combat, that's okay, but it's not locked to FPS, you can also play TPS and it's not aim-based.
