There really hasnt been any new sandboxes since original SWG.

Some have come up claiming to be "sandbox" but their idea of one has been building big empty world, introducing full loot and FFA pvp and then saying "You want actual content? Nah, this is a sandbox, just use your imagination to make your own!"

And, ESO is b2p now and the cash shop and sub arent even suggestive currently, so id say go for it, its worth the plunge, its currently becoming as open as any elder scrolls game, which is good.

Wait, I saw that ESO Tamriel Unlimited, as a standalone game is "buy once" now, but is it an open world sandbox type game?

(previous poster claims ESO is not such a game by default)

And about Rust......judging from gameplay videos it looks close to my expectations enough, but as I could see it has a sophisticated method of craftong, right? (and the same counts for Reign Of Kings too as I noticed)

I forgot to mention in my 1st post, that I am not too fond of crafting, I mean combining certain items of weapons is fine, (like in Dead Rising games for example), but everything above that leval is too complex for me, I mean I want to concentrate primarily on my own survival, and fighting my battles, not to bother with planning and building houses, or merging dozens of different objects in order to plan and construct some super item or weapon. (that's the reason why I don't like 7 Dys To Die either)

There you go. About 20ish sandbox games you can check out.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

skimmed the post and didnt see it on here, so https://albiononline.com/  old school style mmorpg, guilds, pvp, drop everything when you die, good times to be had.

I tried both EVE and Elite Dangerous.

In EVE its the combat style which doesn't suit me, everything else would be perfect.

I prefer a more active combat style, where I actually navigate an maneuver my ship (or character) all the time, instead of merely giving orders to it and watch the outcome, with eventual tactical changes......so I like more intensive combat actions, greatly influenced by my own navigation, maneuver, and aiming skills.

As for ED, combat itself is nicely solved there, but the UI is too complex, meaning mostly the flight and maneuver controls are too complicated for me there, too many movement and navigation types, axis and thrusters, I would prefer something more simple, like in Freelancer, X3, X wing-Tie Fighter, or Wing Commander.......I know those are less realistic games, but even striving for too high realism can spoil the combat-action fun and experience, especially in space-simulation games.

FYI, I play video games exactly in order to get away from my real life, as far as I can, and to totally forget about it while playing.

However, I still like them as realistic as possible, since I consider them for a type of "second life", a realistic alternative of real life, where I try to identify myself with my chosen character instead of my real life self, and where I am hoping to become more successful for a change. (for example by achieving successes which I could never achieve in my RL)

I too have been looking for a good sandbox to play. My ideal sandbox would be a GTA style mmo set in a huge sprawling metropolis with thousands of other players in it at the same time. Only thing the slightly resembles this is APB but that is only 50vs50 per server. And Triad Wars (another GTA clone) calls itself an MMO but that game is no where near an MMO. You can't even play with other players on the same map. Not even a co-op feature. I still haven't figured out why  AAA devs haven't made an MMO set in a real life city with cars and pedestrians etc. They keep making these stupid dragon, elves, armor, swords bullshit played out MMOs. H1Z1 comes close to that but the town in that game is to small compared to a metropolis.

As for your list of requirements, good luck. The game dev companies make games based only on how much profit it will make them. They do not make games based on what players want. Indie devs do try to make games players want. It is way easier for a dev to make a themepark game because it is easier to maintain and control than a sandbox game.

GW 2 is a pure themepark, and so is ESO. I honestly thought that ESO would follow in the singleplayer games like Skyrim and Oblivion. But alas ESO is 100% themepark.

Your gonna have to wait a few more months/years. Apparently only up until a few years ago development companies realized the majority of MMO users are getting sick of themeparks. There should be alot more sandboxes coming out in the future, but it is a slow wait.

Say, what is actually wrong with Darkfall?

Some of you advised me against it, but as I can judge from its videos, it can be JUST the game I am seeking for......

Ok, it is maybe a bit too PvP based, but apart from that there is enough PvE action too, NPCs, AI monstears.....then a vast game world, active combat style, nice graphics, detailed character creator, totally free, non linear or too quest based gameplay.........

Well that may happen, since it is the closest MMORPG to my expectations which I found so far.

Playing Darkfall UW right now, and i looks more and more the game I was seeking for!

However, I seem to have a problem in the already, namely in the starting phase, (I guess its some kind of tutorial), I was told to visit the "bank", and take our some leather from it, which I had to sell to a NPC merchant.

I did all that, and received 4 gold for it.

However, the next task should be to buy a woodcutter axe from that same merchant, and that one costs 5 gold......so now I am struggling to earn 1 more additional gold somehow.

Left the safe zone, venturing into the wilderness, killed 2 AI monsters, collected the loot, but when i returned, none of the NPCs were willing to buy them, they all just refuse to pay for them, including the merchant himself.

Or maybe I sold the leather to the sage instead of the merchant by mistake, and since he probably pays less for them, (I giess), that's why I got only 4 gold instead of 5???......

If so, what the heck should I do now???

Will i have to restart the game with a new character??? (since only 1 is allowed)

I don't even know if that is possible at all......

    And may I ask WHY?

Which one of my listed expectations is that much demanding and unrealistic???

Each of them already exist in many games, (check all the examples I mentioned), so why would it be so impossible adding them all up in one simgle online game then?

I think asking for an Ideal game for you is asking for a perfect game for you.  Requests for perfection like that are unreasonable.

About ESO I have to agree with that "previous poster" of it NOT being a sandbox.

It's sort of open world where there are bounderies. You can however explore where ever you want but do expect area's that will out lvl you and instant kill you. Oh so love to the challenge to just see how far I can sneak around without getting killed. I feel there is plenty of room to explore. But with most of today's MMORPG due to being a "old school" gamer I often find my own niche in these games.

I am actually glad to have this old school experiance. Because seeing how some people describe how they play these games the the ultimate linear fashion even if they don't need to  would be incredible boring to me.

I also have my wishlist, but that's it it remains a wishlist. Some games might reach certain points of my true wishes. but that doesn't stop me from enjoying many games that might be different then my wish list is. I'll addept if the game is in some way fun enough to play.

But honostly if you tried that many MMO's you already know most games don't hit a 100% on your wishlist.

If you that old school gamer you could try to find your own niche within today's games...or like some do wait....wait ....become disappointed because the game didn't hit your wishlist marks....wait some more and eventually maybe never be able to enjoy game for what they are.

I do hope one day we will get that game that might hit most of the right marks because like you I did experiance MMORPG's in the old that way.

Well at least GTA 5 for PC will be released soon, it is no MMO, true, but it fulfills all my other expectations. (at least I hope so, since its 3rd and 4th part provided me years of fun)

I sually did a couple of story quests, merely in order to unlock certain map parts or features, then started wandering/roaming totally randomly (at my will) through its huge map, doing things totally by my own choice, accprding to my current mood or intuition.

Hehe for sure can't wait till I can get my hands on GTAV pc version .........FINALY after sooooo long.

Did pick up Watch Dogs last Januari to fill that gap then GTA was still at the end of januari release date. Now it's next month or so I hope.  Enjoyed it very much especially the online portions of WD. But think GTA ticks more of my listings...And the way you seem to enjoy GTA seems similar to how I play it.

Let's hope on a grand experiance when it finaly get's released
