For the longest time Eve had the problem (and still has the reputation) that if you are just starting, you have 0 chance against a veteran around for a couple of years or more.
Recently they changed a LOT of mechanics and rebalanced the fleet making it so that newbies matter after only a couple of days if that due to the usefulness of even the lowest cost frigates.
Yes, more skill heavy ships are better, but also more costly to fly and lose and the big thing now, for a specific ship, with a specific load out, there are only X skills required, once you have them, whether it takes 3 weeks or 3 months to get them all maxed, for that ship and load out you are just as good game mechanics wise as someone who has been playing 4 years.
Will PFO have this sort of setup from the start or will they go through a bad learning curve as well?
