The mechanics of Gw 1 are phenomenal,  a big part of the reason why some of us still hang around.  The hero system, two-class functionality, and mostly-great dungeons are I think a few things we have been starved for since Gw 1 went on autopilot.

I am one of those people for whom Gw 2 did not work out but I would say that if we could just have Gw 1 in a Gw 2 skin a lot of us would be happy.  There was no need to remove so much, to throw the baby out with the bathwater, if you will.  An open explorable world is great, and it was more than pretty enough, but we just want our old stuffz! :)

GW1 has been my favorite mmo.

To me it doesn't need a successor, its virtually a perfect game that stands on its own just fine.

I would love to see another game do GvG and Halls of Heroes though.

How is EQN a spiritual successor of GW1? It is not instanced enough.
  • eye_meye_m Member UncommonPosts: 3,317
I think GW2 does a good job at being he spiritual successor to GW. The lore does a fairly good job at continuing on rather seamlessly even after such drastic changes.  And I really like the way that in some parts of the story, the characters will do things to antagonize the other characters. It plays out really nice.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

Didn't mean that actually. Also instancing isn't the main thing of guild wars 1,It  more of a feature, the magic the gathering skill system and multiclassing is.If you keep this things and make it open world its still guild wars 1 in feel ,mines the lore and world.

right, the spiritual successor, sorry.  They do use a lot of the same skills in GW2, and I think it's better that you can jump now.

nah .. without the instancing, the game would not be the same.

For example, I would be forced to see other players in the game.

Guild wars 1 had brilliant zones that you played with other real people along with raids and great pvp. A successor would have to have these for end game along with rock hard zones that you can party with people or npc. I would pay for a gw1 successor, c'mon Anet you know you want to, give us the next true corpg you know you want to (and jumping plx :))

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

In all fairness, I can agree that I would like to have many of the aspects of GW1 returned, and specifically the instanced zones, and dual classes.

One thing Guild Wars 1 did is to allow the player to get any skill or item when ever they want.

Ye indeed, it's a shame gw2 didn't learn more fron Gw1, close but only small cigar.

    You Never Fight Alone !

The greatest thing Guild Wars 1 did that no mmo has ever done is to make a really strong community, and making ultra hard or forcing us to play together. To summarized in few word: You Never Fight Alone !They did by not making the game about rvr, pvp, pve  or even gvg,but PLAYERS VERSUS GAME.Ever time a new content got made it wasn't  a challenge to be defeated but a puzzle to be solved.

    1. Spiritual Successor doesn't need to mean "Same game, Updated graphics."

    2. You are not supposed to make a poll where both answers are "Yes"... [mod edit]

    What ?

This post is for the people that like Guild Wars 1  and want show how much they want something like Guild Wars 1.Big deal if your not up to speed or don't like it.

If it's not for you don't care.

No one forced you to come here and no one will force you to play the games.

Also a Spiritual Successor  is any game that uses the mechanics and ideas of the original, not looks or features.

  • killerdodo2killerdodo2 Member Posts: 92

Guild Wars 1 was one of this mmos that when for the open minded why to make or build you character.

If a healer mage that can tank well or a tank that can heal well you can make it without having to choice any class or specialization, only thing you need is to know what your doing and to have the confidence to pull it off all the way can.

No one will stop and if work you will because a cool build to show off in the mmo.

Not many mmos like that this days.

Also it was fun to make builds.

What is a feature and what is an idea? Isn't instancing everything an idea in the first place?
